I bought a second hand 12-Core 2013 MacPro early 2021 (manufactured 2017). Someone's reposted the same spec'ed 2013 MacPro on eBay for the 3rd time at AUD$2K, without so much as a nibble. The bottom has dropped right out of the market for these old clunkers, since the release of these new Apple Silicon Macs! I'm not mad - it's still a usable system. My equipment is a little more older than yours, with FireWire audio I/O & an LG 34UM95 (Thunderbolt-2) monitor, so I'll continue to use it for the time being...
Yeh I stuck with my 2006 Mac Pro for almost 10 years, I never felt it slow down until the final year then it started to feel old. Then the Trashcan after that which was a strategic move as I had gone down the Hackintosh route but that ended up being a real Pain in the ****. 7 - 10 years always seems to be the life span for me with a Mac so they are always a very good investment! :D I was looking at upgrading my MacPro trashcan's processor for a while but every now and then it already freezes and reboots (about once every 2 months). Something to do with the Graphics sub system so I thought go with something new (and a lot faster)! :D
Yeh, This video was more a film something so I can have something to edit to test the Mac when set up. Its lightning fast compared to the old Trashcan Mac I had and almost half the price :D
Well if you're a Mac user then this is the best machine to get your hands on.. unfortunately I have a lot of software that will never be upgraded to ARM based processing. Unfortunately, I'll be sticking on x86.
I moved to PC a few times but I always find a little more frustrating to use. The amount of plug-in's ive been unable to use over the years as OS changes is one of the main reasons I'm quite carfule with what plugins I use these days :D
Yeh, I was on the fence for a long time but I guess this was always the computer I was complaining that Apple did not make, at least not since the quicksilver back int he early 2000's. My Entry level trashcan was really getting making it hard to get content finished. :D
I've the same problem, computers are encouraging my alcoholism because of their too long installation process...🍷 And never install a new computer in the evening if you need to go to bed. New computer or even a major OS update are always long and tedious work, you have to check everything. And even if you have checked everything, 2 weeks later you launch an app or a plugin you haven't checked enough and this bl...dy piece of s...t doesn't work! Arrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh. Regarding the upgrade of my system (2 macs, one desktop + one laptop) I'll wait. My iMac Pro and MB Pro still work fine for what I do and I guess I'll jump to AppleSilicon maybe in 2 years.
Believe it or not I started at 1pm and it was not completed until almost midnight! Indeed, very tedious. especially when you need to move licenses around for plugins\ilok etc.. :D
@@100ThingsIDo 1pm to midnight. Well, 11 hours, we could say your instalation was in the best average... 😀 And I hate iLock. Realy. Some days I think I should have learn to play fife. Nothing more than that. A tube of bamboo you can play nacked on a beach, drinking coconuts, eating bananas, with a palm leaf around the hip... Simple life...
This was perfect timing, thank you - my Mac Studio arrives on Friday! It won't be quite the same for me, because (a) my studio isn't even fully wired yet and (b) my old Mac Pro is actually a 2009 cheesegrater that's so old I can no longer even upgrade Cubase on it. But I'm excited to get it all set up and see how much power the thing actually has. Which model did you go for? I bought the base model as I thought it was ample for my needs - the only thing I upgraded was the internal SSD (to 2Tb), though I do plan to use an external enclosure too.
Hope yours works well! I the same as you went for the entry model. I was going to upgrade the processor and storage but the price and 6 week wait time was a bit too much! Let me know how you go! :D

Moving to a new computer ALWAYS takes longer than you think, and sucks more than you expect - exporting in 1/40th of the time is worth it though!

Hey David :) I went bottom of the line Mac Studio. Mostly working well, giving me problems with RELAB's 480L but everything else seems to go well! :D

Entry level M1 Studio. I decided if I went the entry model it means I can upgrade a lot sooner than if I had spend 2x or 3x on it :D
