Do I need all this Gear?

- Ok, again the title is a little clicky.. sorry about that.. and sorry if you thought there was going to be a fire sale of cheap Fairlights over at Studio Mike :D
I had a question in the comments the other week which was basically "How can you ever learn to get the most from that gear when you have so much". The answer is I have built the studio over many many years and spend a huge amount of time with most instruments up front when they first come into the studio. All of this gave me the idea... lets see what I can do if I turned all the synths off and tried to use a simple sign wave on the Mac.
I hope you found this an interesting experiment and the clicky nature of the thumbnail did not let you down.
Hope all is good in your world
Regards,
Mike

When your naughty cam is 10 times better than your trusty cam hahaha. I hope everything is fine these days!
seen this trick the first time when i was in a mentorship, was amzaed but then get in deeper into synthesis and outboard gears lol. And I learn I want more than just a perfect sinwave sample. So this got me into a opposite way og GAS. 🤣
Maybe you figured out the naughty camera - but it sounds like a bad SD card. Have you done a low-level formatting on the card? I've had weird issues like that and it's usually been the SD card (or if you use Magic Lantern with Canon cameras, that can be an issue for me sometimes as well).
I doubt it's the actual camera, but it would be easy to test with some random footage.
Love the stuff you make. Nice work :)
Great ideas. The naughty camera is a Sigma FP and I write compressed .MOV to a 1tb SSD. I had the MPC3000 videos on the same SSD for 12 months so yeh fragmentation of the SSD could of caused the issues. I'll format as soon as I get the MPC3000 videos finished :D
@@100ThingsIDo I have no recollection of making my previous comment and I *never* see replies to my comments... so I'm coming back to your video because I have 12 flipping synthesizers on their side in my studio (and that's not including all my other synthesizers not on their sides!)... sigh. I hate how interesting these synths are!
@@MIDERA Ohhh O hope you stt this. Indeed, I am planning a tear down of the studio very soon one the new release is out and rebuilding with less gear and just focusing on less 'live' gear in my face. The Samplers will remain as is but the synths will be reduced to what sounds I want to make (I'll store the rest and not really sell them and once again swap most of them in and out as needed) :D
Juste about the tittle (I haven't seen the whole sequence yet) :Obviously "you need all this gear"! Everybody needs gear, and more is better! 😉
Edit: The rest of the video: excellent. Doing more and being creativ with simple things. (But actualy not so "simple", just imagine doing the same thing in your home studio in 1990. Good reverb, good delay, etc...)
Yeh, I have the synths I must own for the rest of my life if I can (Mood Model D, Fairlight..potentially Quantum), everything else from time to time gets the eye of 'maybe I should let that go' or "I'm not getting vaue from this" until the day I need that special something and BOOM worth every cent :D
Sometimes I feel like selling everything, apart from a few choice items and just use the computer. Life would be a lot simpler, but would it be as fun?
I think most of us do, although I get tempted from time to time :D It would make life a lot easier.
Greetings from Radelaide, i see you have the Quasimidi Raveolution, have you ever taken an MC505 and MC909 for a play? how did it compare to the Raveolution as they are very hard to find these days.
Peace and great content.
Indeed, I have a 505, The 505 is more like a synth where you can create sounds and layer the inbuilt samples where the Ravo is more like a tb303 & 808 + 909 with some extra synth sounds. If that moakes sense ? The Ravo's sequencer is very poor and buggy the 505 more stable be a lot more obscure to use. Hope this helps :D
Me at the start: "that Super 6 is sounding pretty good!" Yeah, you totally fooled me :D It's surprising what you can do with a sine wave.
I love the way you punished the camera by using that red caption every time, haha! I know how this feels, based on experience with film, oddly enough. I was making Super8 films at university in 1985, when British Film Year brought a bunch of celebs to our town (Southampton). We scooped interviews with John Hurt, Michael Palin, Richard Attenborough... only when the footage was developed did we discover a camera fault that occasionally misaligned frames, making the picture appear to jump halfway up the screen. Of course, we used the material anyway - what choice did we have?
Wow, I really hope you worked with John Hurt, Michael Palin, Richard Attenborough on a good day and they were cool to be around. Nothing worse than working with highly regarded talent that turn out to be either having a bad day or just not a cool person! :D
@@100ThingsIDo No word of a lie, they were all wonderful. Michael Palin was especially lovely, but then of course he's known for that :)
I will take that Waldorf Quantum off your hands Lol. That is a beast of a synth. You got lots of good synths! 👍🏻
Yeh the Quantum is fantasitc. I was saying in the Quantum video (the one that failed to record properly) the amount of added value via software updates thr synth has got from Waldorf over the years has been quite stunning :D
Naughty Camera. ...lol
I was soooo angry at it :D I could not believe it let me down in such a spectacular way :D
I dig that old school Apple Logo!
I might have an old Apple or 6 laying around the house :D Back when computers were a lot more inetersting and fun :D
absolutely amazing, Mike. Thanks for sharing with us. So simple but so beautiful
Thanks as always Torsten, I should try it with the Syncalvier and no FM or added Harmonics :D
Beautiful sounds man. Naughty camera is noticeable clearer, can see why it was the primary
Yeh it really looks great! I have thought a few times of getting another one but it has a few little quirks from time to time :D
Hope you are okay!🤥🤔
100% fine, just taking.a break, back soon :D
@@100ThingsIDo 👍Great to hear you are fine! Take your time!
Yes you do!😁
Some of it is going nowhere :D
