Blackie great video, Several years ago I practice cooking with my canteen cup. I was able to perfect several easy recipes from rice dishes to soups and baking recipes. It just takes practice and taking the correct measurement of the food and water, and fire. All my practice paid of at home when I took my 1st survival course I was set.
Mr Thomas,I am a little bit behind on my YT video watching, but I think that you have really hit it out of the park with the canteen cup cooking series. Please keep us informed with more like this great 👍👍👍 topic!😎
Awesome my friend, thank you for sharing. I am sorry that I missed your dinner invitation, perhaps next time. I bet that it was very tasty. You take care and be safe. 🤗
That's a great idea. Thanks for showing it to us. I've seen that McCormick's spaghetti sauce in the store before, but never thought about using it on the trail. I guess we can learn new things all the time if people point them out. Thanks, again.
WISH I HAD THIES IDEAS 50-- 60 YEARS AGO WHEN WE CAMPED OUT A LOT ( THEN LITTEL TV , AND NO INTERNET ) WE CAMPED OUT FOR FUN TIME. WE WOULD LUG A SACK OF CANED GOODS, AND GET SOME FISH NOW AND AGAIN. NOW DAYS KIDS DO NOT DO NOT DO THIS STUFF ANY MORE. HOPE SOME KIDS CAN LERN FROM YOU.
Although canteen cup cooking works great this guy (wonder what his name is ;) made a video some time back on Swedish cook stoves. This guy (name is on the tip of my tongue ;) gave a thorough demonstration on this stove. Well I bought one. Got a nice surplus in great condition and have had great meals ever since. Well maybe Blackie knows this semi famous UA-cam woodsman. I am spoiled my friend. Thanks again for all the work you do on these videos.
lol i hear ya..if just me..a canteen cup is enough..the swedish is my next step up for bigger meals..next up pathfinder pot..then up into my dutch ovens...layers upon layers
Nice!! How about a series on tin can cook sets and cooking ? some people don't want to dip into a tight family budget for hobbie stuff. Or cub &boy scouton tight budgets and kids with little money!! May be some home made gear.?? This down and dirty series is good 👍
Thank you for the tip of the sock toe as a pot grabber!!!!!! I have a kitchen pot holder and an old dishrag and have caught them on fire SOOOO many times. Going to find an old sock!!
I have seen those sauce mixes but never used them. I guess I thought you added them to tomato sauce. I wonder if one of those packets could be used in the chili mix instead of bringing a can of tomato paste.
Mix the sauce with the water, put your noodles in it and then boil it, that adds flavor to your noodles. Add or pour off water as needed. Then eat it out of the canteen. Your welcome
When I see you priming the Pathfinder stove and it's the end of March it makes me think that it must be really sluggish to bloom in anything like cold weather. Is this the case? All the best.
A nalgene bottle full of wine works well..add some fruit..apple..orange..cinnamon stick etc and you can boil up mulled wine right in camp...saw ERIC OFF TRACK..in Australia on you tube do that.....HAPPY TRAILS!
There was a( i thought it was Jack Link's)maker of beef jerky and other meat products that use to make an 11oz package of precooked ground beef that would work well if you preferred a meat sauce on your spaghetti but i have not seen it in stores lately
Not very nutritious but filling if you are going for high carbs. ☺ Canteen cups are OK - I used them in the army, BUT, there are several other cooking sets that work better in my humble opinion. Just saying.... ☺
Very good ideas, Thank you very much
Love your cooking videos keep them coming please...
7:38 good réflexs ...
😉 😂 😂 😂

thats the secret..i practiced at home for my lunch until i got the amounts correct..then i knew how much to prepackage at home for the journeys
I like the bag idea and how it keeps everything clean thanks.for the video
thank you sir..i am a big fan of not cleaning if i dont have too
Nice job, you need some squirrel meat in it. I cant eat spaghetti without meat. Thanks fir the video.
Looks like an easy to make and satisfying meal! Thanks for sharing brother.
Blackie, thanks for sharing !

I drain most of the water off my pasta & use a packet of tomato cuppa soup. The dry cuppa soups reduce the risk of having a "wet" sauce mix rupture.

Ok its 1 am here and now I'm hungry !! Lol great looking meal love pasta it don't like me but I love it ! Take care brother
safe journeys brother
I am definitely gonna do this in my backyard while I shelter in place.
great chance to practice
Awesome
Good job Blackie.
Nice video

I like watching cooking videos, but when they are over i have to go feed my face because nobody shares. LOL Nice video..........
Looks good!
I'll have to remember to look for the sauce mix. That's perfect to stock up on for when needed
look in your grocery store where dry gravies..spices are usually
Some wild mushrooms would be great or wild onions
yep i will often gather as i go and then add to the supper that night
I really like your lid. you cant find them anymore.
another cool video thanks for taking the time to do this one. I did not see you put salt in the pasta water?
i had already put it in the bag with the pasta..so when i dumped them in the salt went with it
The units of measurement are on point 😄
Like the canteen (waterbottle), where is it from, or the brand ?
It's a vintage Boy Scout canteen.
Great video, gave me some ideas for the future. Can you tell us about the canteen in the video? It has that old school cool look.
John Thomas JR it's a boy scout canteen from years gone by
yep ww2 era i think
you need a tube of tomato paste add a little .,the tube will last a lone time ,easy to carry
I have seen those sauce mixes but never used them. I guess I thought you added them to tomato sauce. I wonder if one of those packets could be used in the chili mix instead of bringing a can of tomato paste.
i have done that..mix with water first and make a thick paste
Where did you get that canteen lid from? I've been looking for that thing for a couple years now. Have one of those rothco ones but it don't fit well.
i got mine for the canteen shop in ohio but i think they out of biz now
Thank you for the vid....well done, very clear. Question: maybe I missed it, did you talk about your stove? Would you share its source?
pathfinder stove..do a search for pathfinder school in ohio..they have a store and they sell it..sort of a bigger trangia
great video.. put my order in at Kaufmans down there great people to deal with Blackie .. told her you sent me that way but no discount ? haha
no no discount yet..but i am still working on them..maybe one day
아침인가요?
Mix the sauce with the water, put your noodles in it and then boil it, that adds flavor to your noodles. Add or pour off water as needed. Then eat it out of the canteen. Your welcome

no mine seems to do well..it was used in neg 20 with 80% humidity and served just fine for me
I've seen that before, but , it was heat sealed on each end .
Have used Bobalos pizza sauce in the small clear plastic packs for a spaghetti similar to what you have there
Is there any advantage to painting the canteen cup with high heat paint? I see a lot of cups and bowls painted
yes i have found it cleans up easier..and it seems to heat more evenly..but thats just my exp..i am sure someone will disagree
now all you need is one of those single serving bottles of wine
A nalgene bottle full of wine works well..add some fruit..apple..orange..cinnamon stick etc and you can boil up mulled wine right in camp...saw ERIC OFF TRACK..in Australia on you tube do that.....HAPPY TRAILS!
That's good, but where's the meat?
There was a( i thought it was Jack Link's)maker of beef jerky and other meat products that use to make an 11oz package of precooked ground beef that would work well if you preferred a meat sauce on your spaghetti but i have not seen it in stores lately
true i used it many times..sadly i cannot find it around my place now
Hi dood.
howdy
You got big mosquitoes flying around you there in the wilderness at 12:42 into the video, eh? :-D
oh them...nah..in south alabama if they cant pick ya up we dont call em skeeters
What? No roast beast ?
