Crazy how sports outlets are painting Ippei as a villain for backstabbing Shohei and having a gambling problem, while also peddling sports gambling 24/7
It is sad in every aspect, but my sympathy is for Ohtani. To see someone of his character - generous, trusting, and dedicated to excellence through hard work - not only betrayed by a close friend who stole millions from him, but to have had his name and reputation dragged through the mud by legions of doubters and haters who couldn't be bothered to wait for the facts of the case to be revealed. Ippei had won the lottery when he got the job as Ohtani's translator - he was set for life - but he flushed that life down the toilet out of greed and refusal to exercise self-control. He didn't just betray Ohtani - he betrayed his wife and everyone in his life who was close to him. He has been deceitful, immoral and utterly cavalier about the pain and injury he could inflict by his actions. This was a massive theft and society can not excuse this kind of behavior - however much he was a victim of his own weakness - he belongs in prison for a good spell.
Looking at this matter from another angle, Shohei has already taken the lead, focusing on baseball and letting the fans who support him live up to them and see how powerful he is.
So true. And what makes me further angry is that when the walls were closing in and the article was going to come out, he could have confessed to Shohei immediately. Instead, he dug his grave even further & bring Shohei down with him by going on camera with ESPN and lie about Shohei’s part in all this. Not only did he not even have the grace or decency to prepare Shohei for this scandal he was about to unleash on him, but in doing what he did & then changing his story, he made things worse. He gave Shohei’s haters and all the conspiracy theorists the ammunition they needed to view Shohei as guilty. Regardless of whether it was self preservation on his part, what kind of person would not even care to prepare his friend or clue him in that something big was coming and he’d be implicated? Clearly someone who was never a friend to Shohei, just a degenerate, addictive gambler and liar who deserves what’s coming to him and more. FYI, his attorney just released a statement on Ippei’s behalf, with him apologizing to Shohei, his family, etc. Well he can keep his apology. He’ll never undue the damage he did to Shohei’s reputation.
I knew Shohei was innocent the moment the story dropped. He has proved since he started his career in Japan that he doesn't care about money, he cares about the game. I am glad it is over
Yeah, he doesn't care about money, since his team in Japan had to kick him out of the team dorms because he wanted to stay in there long after everyone else who signed at the same time as him because it made training and getting to the games easier. Shohei has always been all about baseball.

This was the first account opened when Shohei arrived to USA, 2018 with help of his interpreter to register a US bank account for salary. Since then It was deposited salary and other income but it was then never used by Ohtani. Ohtani had subsequently many other accounts arranged by his agency which he actively used and was managed by staff. That account Ippei had access to was basically dormant for Shohei and not connected to electronically alerted since mail nor mobile wasn’t really established at that time and he could always add later. While Ippei was the contact person. That first account still had frequent deposits of salaries and other incomes and deposits still was much bigger than what Ippei withdrew so the balance was growing anyway. And Ohtani never checked it..since he never used it.
Ohtani never checked the account because it was supposed to be managed by his team of financial advisors and accountants at his agency. Ippei never had permission to access the account and was not the contact person for any of the accounts by the bank. He was able to change the contact info and notifications to his personal email and phone because he helped set it up and knew Ohtani's personal information. Ohtani's staff only contacted Mizuhara because they thought he would interpret for Ohtani, but he was not the actual contact for the accounts.
If ippei can’t be in the AL or NL anymore, maybe he can get arrested and be Franco’s translator in the PL (Prison league) or get injured and be Rendon’s translator in the IL (Injured league) because apparently Rendon doesn’t know English sometimes
Not sure if Ippei is a US citizen. If he is in the US on a work visa or permanent residency status, he will be deported back to Japan as soon as he’s done serving his time. He then will never be able to enter the US. How do I know? My ex-wife’s father is serving time at a federal prison as a Japanese national who used to have a green card.
To know all that we know now and to still try to claim that Mizuhara was the fall guy is to believe that the entire US justice department is complicit in a conspiracy to cover up for Ohtani. Ridiculous. Ohtani is simply a decent, honest, trusting guy (to a fault)
Maybe Ohtani is legit innocent, but with the amount of money involved and the future revenue that Ohtani will generate for MLB I still have my doubts about the entire situation. And I don't believe anything the DoJ is involved in.
Imagine getting betrayed by the most trusted man I’ve know for long and being criticised by all kinds of media and people. He must be destroyed inside tbh. But I was just genuinely so happy when I saw his first home run at Dodgers the other day. What a strong man he is.
I understand people making up their mind that Ohtani was involved when the information was so muddled initially but the idea that Feds know Shohei is involved and are allowing to the Ippei to be the fall guy is honestly insane. They’d be staking their credibility to a massive gambling addict never allowing something even close to this to happen again, it feels like a way bigger leap in logic to believe that this is all just a cover up at this point.
Ippei is a cautionary tale for all of us about addiction and the depths of desperation and destruction it causes. I mean, our Superstar almost got his knees thwacked.
With friends like Ippei, who needs enemies? Yeah, we can feel sorry for Ippei because of his addiction, but I feel more sorry for Ohtani, who trusted this person too much and got taken for a ride.
Ohtani literally deferred his payment from the dodgers and is willing to lose millions to inflation, while that doesn’t mean anything definitive, why would he gamble if he could’ve just got the money from his contract?
Ippei destroyed Shohei’s reputation. Jail or not, Ippei had better to stay in the US because there is no place for him in Japan. Even after the feds investigation proved him innocent, there are always people out there who don’t want to know the truth and slag off Shohei at every opportunity. Damage has been done.
“Welcome to the Draft Kings Sports Show here in the FanDuel studio. Steve, why don’t you bring that Bet365 mic in a little closer and explain to us all how such a thing is possible? Brought to you by Stake.”
A lot of people asking how Ippei was able to steal $16mil from Ohtani’s accounts without anyone noticing. I’m more in awe about how he was able to fly from Seoul to Los Angeles during the middle of this story without one person spotting him and uploading a picture to social media. You know there would have been throngs of media at LAX if they knew he was coming. Yet he was able to walk through 2 crowded airports and fly 15 hours with about 300 people without one person recognizing him. The man is a magician.
I bet that even Ippei is absolutely relieved to have this out in the open. He no longer has to lie to hide his problem and now can focus on getting better. Gambling is horrible. The fact that it is so advertised now is truly disgusting. It is easily as addictive as drugs and alcohol yet sports, including the MLB, promote the crap out of it. They should be ashamed.
Doubt it. Shame is a very serious thing in Japan and a criminal record could make it hard to get back into the states. He's probably going to have to head off to some other Asian country, disappear and start over
Ippe was probably jumping from foot to foot just waiting for Ohtani to sign that $700 million contract... Sometimes you can not trust those who are closest to you!
I figured this was not gonna end well but man, this got even more worse than thought of. Ippei is looking like a huge snake if he’s been doing this longer around 2 years as well as the lying cause Daamn. That old line of keep your friends close and your enemies closer really holds true. What a sad story for sure
What's really dumb about this ESPN interviewer was she interviewed Ippei without Shohei and took every word of Ippei for quick hit. Really irresponsible. Then it made the situation worse and interviewed the same man who lied and changed the story again and made it worst.
The only thing that doesn’t add up, is how does not one person raise a flag to ohtani. We are not talking about few hundred dollars, it’s millions, 7 figures, over a couple of years time, from my understanding.
Ippei lied that Ohtani wanted the bank account private(ohtani’s financial team always had to communicate through Ippei bcus Ohtani barely understands english). I dont understand it though, did all the payroll go to that back account? If so, then the financial team wouldve wondered why they cant find his large amount of payroll… the lack of actual communication with Ohtani made it easy to manipulate, Ohtani really needs to learn english.

Hey, iTalk! When you get a chance you should do some research about this whole Tommy John elbow crisis regarding the pitchers in Japan? If you haven't already, of course. The rate, and or, percentages of Japanese pitchers needing the knife are significantly lower then they are in the U.S. It's always been that way. In fact the 1st Japanese pitcher to ever need Tommy John surgery was Murata in 1982. In the U.S. it was of course TJ but in the year 1974. One of the obvious reasons why Japanese pitchers stats are lower is because they ARE NOT being taught to throw hard as soon as they even look a baseball for the 1st time. Aside from that. I really do believe the answer we need lies within the confines of Japanese baseball
Yes but no... I'm assuming you've never heard of the Summer Koshien? If not theres high school kids pitching 70-100 innings and thousands of pitches in a weeks time. Don't remember who the the coverage of it but it's ruined some really promising pitchers. Just search UA-cam for Summer Koshien tournament documentary.
Quick and simple answer to the TJ epidemic...$$$ will make anyone throw harder than they actually can so as to ink the next biggest contract in history. What did you think it could be? Something in the water bro?
Let's not forget that Kramer suffered from a gambling addiction. He stole from Jerry and Newman... but everything turned out fine. We just needed to move on to the next episode.
Why would Ohtani bet on himself? Just think about it, It makes no sense. This case is clearly what It seems like, he probably didn't notice It because he was busy playing baseball and trusted his friend.
I can’t lie this is also pretty sad. It’s clear Ippei had a terrible gambling addiction. Over 19,000 bets. $40.7M lost and the worst part is $16M of Ohtani’s money was stolen. I won’t lie at first I just thought Ippei was the fall guy, but now it’s clear that Ippei is a just a guy with a terrible gambling addiction and stole his best friend’s money to gamble millions away. Ohtani is clearly the victim of this story
Shohei has always been a guy that didn't care about money. When he was in Japan, his mother took care of his bank account. Since he moved to the U.S., he trusted his best friend to take care of it. Was he silly to do that? 100%. But he is the victim.
Is now in his seventh season and still needs a translator. How would that work at your job? Or how would it work for an America player going to play in Japan. MLB should set expectations for international players and limit the amount of seasons they can continue to rely on translators. In Ohtani’s case, the conversation should begin, “You’ve been playing American baseball at the highest level for 7 years. That’s plenty of time to apply yourself and be able to communicate directly with the fans and the media. We expect that in your 2024 season you will speak to the sport in English.”
And yet, people still want Ohtani to be that guilty guy and wish him actually did something wrong to lead him into prison. Those vicious thoughts are 90% from the United States. I don’t understand what did he do to your life, and some even want him to die. It’s sickening. The fanbases from the US are the most disgusting I’ve seen. Stop hating
Ohtani allowed the authorities access to everything, from communication records to everything else, in order to cooperate with the investigation. That may be an obvious attitude, but I'm not rich, but I definitely don't want them to see my correspondence records😅
I don't understand how Ohtani didn't know anything--it's obvious he was involved and his translator took the fall because well Ohtani is making a lot of money.
Only difference between ohtani and Pete rose Is that ohtani had a fall guy. Also either ohtani bet on games or he is so stupid that he didn't notice that much money gone
You just answered your own question 😂 The total amount is 16 but in a 2 year span. He makes millions off the field, so that money is chump change to Ohtani, on top of the fact that he doesn't give a sht about money. You Americans just can't wrap your tiny brains around that, can you?😂

Interesting, especially after reading about all of these pitchers here going through TJ.
That was fast… a little too fast
Let's not forget that Kramer suffered from a gambling addiction. He stole from Jerry and Newman... but everything turned out fine. We just needed to move on to the next episode.
Damn eBay
BARS‼️
Woah. Poetry.
We expect that in your 2024 season you will speak to the sport in English.”
his job is to play baseball, not to communicate with fans or the media in english lol
Remember when you have 17 on the blackjack table, do not hit! All gamblers know lol
People who think Ohtani's so big, that he has the feds and the IRS working for him are some 🤡
Ohtani should hire Trevor Buaer as his new translator
Did dr Seuss take over the channel?
And yet, people still want Ohtani to be that guilty guy and wish him actually did something wrong to lead him into prison. Those vicious thoughts are 90% from the United States. I don’t understand what did he do to your life, and some even want him to die. It’s sickening. The fanbases from the US are the most disgusting I’ve seen. Stop hating
Those rhymes.
I've always hated Ippei's haircut but i'll never hate that as much as I hate himself as a person
Ohtani allowed the authorities access to everything, from communication records to everything else, in order to cooperate with the investigation. That may be an obvious attitude, but I'm not rich, but I definitely don't want them to see my correspondence records😅
That’s cause he’s a good guy and has nothing to hide. Clearly the same can’t be said about you
I don't understand how Ohtani didn't know anything--it's obvious he was involved and his translator took the fall because well Ohtani is making a lot of money.
Settled? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
with all that money he stole, couldn't he use a portion to get a decent haircut?
@RusselDesomeroux triggered much? you should get a better wig or better yet, get a hair transplant
I think all gambling should be legal anyway
Only difference between ohtani and Pete rose Is that ohtani had a fall guy. Also either ohtani bet on games or he is so stupid that he didn't notice that much money gone
I call BS! Number 17!
The take away.. Ippei was terrible at gambling..
4 million 16 million 40 million this math aint mathin!!
Dodger/ ohtani haters are really quiet now
Haters dont care about facts. They're like Flat Earthers. They ignore the facts and spin everything to fit their narrative.
I've heard Ohtani doesn't care much outside baseball, but htf do u not notice the missing $16M within the last 2 years 😂
You just answered your own question 😂
The total amount is 16 but in a 2 year span. He makes millions off the field, so that money is chump change to Ohtani, on top of the fact that he doesn't give a sht about money.
You Americans just can't wrap your tiny brains around that, can you?😂
Well, Billy Joel's manager stole 30 mil from him. Kevin Garnett got 77 mil stolen from him. The list goes on and on.
Why agree to the espn interview then? How rich do you have to be to not notice 16m missing lol?
Love the intro love the channel
Congrats on 150k! I was here since 15k, keep it up!
I guess you’re doin a rhyming experiment. I get why you’re trying, but It’s not good. Really annoying. Still like ur channel tho.
