I agree. Oftentimes I've searched for things pertaining to scripture like best books to read, etc., and Ligonier would pop up with great answers and resources.
Good answer; the Proverbs are general principles that are normally true, but not in every situation. The Proverbs 22:6 verses (like many of the proverbs of wisdom) are not meant to be an iron clad guarantee that if you raise your children godly, they will not depart from it. They still need salvation in Jesus Christ. As we bring up our children in the Lord (Ephesians 6:4), it will be either part of their sanctification as young believers or a stepping stone to the gospel itself. Some children will repent and believe and hopefully continue to walk with God (which I believe describes my two teenagers) and some will reject the teaching and many times show their conversion was false (which describes my oldest son). Regardless, it isn't a guarantee if we bring children up in the Lord that they will continue in it, but it is still a joy and a privilege as a parent to do so.
So if we become truly born again we become a child and he trains us up in the way we should go , don’t forget this is just the beginning , eternity is ahead of you.
Proverbs is followed by Ecclesiastes, which talks about the random things (uncertainty) that can also happen, and the dangers in the world. It mentions the importance of enjoying life as it happens, while honouring the Lord.
Is it possible that this passage should be translated "Train up a child according to his mouth (i.e. letting him dictate the way he should go), and when he is old he will not depart from it."? In other words, if you don't restrain the child when he is young, then, when he is old, he will never learn to restrain his fleshly lusts or impulses. This is an interpretation I have heard some give for this passage.
I honestly believe that your position is the correct one. Otherwise, we will take the position that every child born in a Christian house, is automatically going to repent and believe the gospel ( Mark 1:15)… and we know that this isn’t the case
Tough & too many have kids unscrupulously. This secular world is challenging for a spiritual being trying not to be transformed by it. God ❤s unjaded pure hearted children as the world hasn't yet tried to consume them.
The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be *like their teacher* Luke 6:40 Jesus implied a cognetive mind (and its motivation good or bad) will be like its *owner* Thoughts give birth to motivations (good or bad) and then actions! 15Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death James 1 .....we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the *Father of spirits* (our spirit and motivations) and live! Hebrews 12:9 Who is your teacher ? Shalom in Christ... Philippians 2:5-11
Ligonier is one of the best sources of the truth about scripture, Jesus and the right way to live.

I think is more like, teach the scripture to your kids and it doesn't matter what happens in the future, it will be in the heart and head always.
