Regarding exceptions to the rule and Proverbs being general principles, it should also be noted that there is an alternative translation for Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child according to his way, and when he is old he will not depart from it." That is, if you let a child have everything their own way, then don't be surprised when they grow up and move out of the house, if they continue on that foolish way. I like this better than the traditonal rendering because there is no one, right way to parent; parents can read all the parenting books they can get their hands on and it will do them little good. Parenting is something that just has to be done prayerfully in the real world. However, there are MANY bad ways to parent a child, and if a child is parented badly, the parents ought not to be surprised if the child grows up to be a rascal. As Leo Tolstoy wrote, "Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

With all the respect to you brothers...does that seem like you're saying it's more of a suggestion then it is the Word Of God?

    So….
“He will not depart” becomes “there’s a good chance that he may or may not depart. There’s no guarantee.”
    🤔

This is a warning from Solomon. Don’t let your child have their way.. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child

There is no sense in this scripture that it is suggesting this idea as a general rule. It is clear with what it says and what it means. Your comment regarding “modern” ideas is ironic because you are presenting a modern idea when you turn the scripture on its head and insist that it doesn’t mean what it actually says.

Yeah, your position that the book of Proverbs isn't a book on promises is wrong. When applied towards Wisdom and other passages, that idea falls short and counters Wisdom, herself.
Also, God said Solomon was the wisest man and no one wiser since him. If Solomon meant to say SOME MIGHT return to the ways they were trained, he would have said that. But Solomon didn't. Solomon said "they will return when older." Sorry, YOUR wisdom cannot compare to Solomons's wisdom, otherwise God would be a liar, because God is the One who said Solomons's wisdom is the greatest and none since him.
