They actually sound different depending on whether in helicopter mode (sounds just like a helicopter) or in plane mode (sounds more like a jet plane, but you can still hear the rotors a little. 3:32).
Truly amazing to see this aircraft in action. I remember following this programme from the mid-1980s. XV-15 was the first tilt-rotor that I was aware of. Thanks for the video!

How this thing doesn't tear it's self apart is amazing, counter rotating rotors, the forces involved here are tremendous. The Chinook was also said to theoretically tear itself apart and 35 years later they are still around with one of the best service records to date.
