Aquascaping is the one hobby I find myself able to unwind and just relax. I find happiness in creating something and watching it come to life. This one I was inspired by World Champion Luca Galarraga who has created some of my favorite layouts over the years. I hope you find this inspiring and if you watch closely you can see many of my techniques that I use to create these layouts over and over successfully. I am here to answer any questions on how to build and maintain these layouts. Just drop a comment and I'll give you a reply. Hope that helps!
Absolutely inspirational! Please make more of these videos. The editing, the creative vision, and the attention to detail are perfect. You've opened my eyes to a whole new artform. Makes me want to be a little fish just so I can explore this aquascape. t.Roy B
More to come! I have one coming out on Saturday 12/10. Im so glad to hear this. I've been telling people about this hobby for so long and while it is a lot more work I find that showing is the best way!
This is one of the best instructional videos I've come across. Not only for how methodical you've been, but for the accompanying music - it fits perfectly. You did a wonderful job and your tanks are beautiful!
Great! I wasn't sure about the music but it did feel right when I was editing. The pace and the vibe just clicked. Hopefully I can get this right again and again.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m thrilled to hear that you found it inspiring and relaxing. Your support really motivates me to keep creating!
Glad you enjoy it! The layout has had another several weeks to grow in and looks really great now. I think I'll enter it in an international contest and share the photo with everyone.
Thank you very much! Yea the glass sketches have been around a long time. I've used it since way back when I started to draw rule of thirds on the tank. Helps with scaling.
Wow! This video was beautifully done. You perfectly explained the inspiration, your process, and the final result without speaking - awesome. (And the tank is lovely.) Thanks so much for sharing. This is my favorite aquascaping video in a long while (and I watch way too many of them!).
Im glad to hear this. This is the zone I fall into when I aquascape. It has taken me so many videos to finally capture what it is I feel and why I do this hobby.
Thanks so much for watching! I did have a few up for a couple years but the interest was low and I decided to focus my channel. I do have all the film still and may create a new version but right now I am working on two more step by step videos. Both nature aquarium focused.
Well done shrinking it into a shorter tank, and the texture of the el jefe was a great choice. I feel like some of the definition is lost in the grouping of rocks on the right though, maybe it just needs more light in front though? And of course some time for the moss to grow in and block it out better
Thanks Luke. Yea some of that is just lighting. I did want to create shading and those rocks are tipped forward substantially. An artistic choice between revealing it versus concealing it to create drama. I could simply tip the large stone back. Good eye bud. Plants were at day 65 or so. They need about 30 to 45 days more to mature and go through some trimming cycles but enough was enough getting this project wrapped up. 😀 I can tell you the layout looks even better now! But I am saving the peak final for the AGA contest with deadline of December 7th. Also different fish!
Yea I remember way back like 15 years ago I used to tape string to the front of the aquarium and someone saw one of my posts and suggested I use these glass safe markers. Game changer.
That is great to hear! I have been sharing these for years but mostly by explaining them. This film is the first time I was able to actually show! And yea fastidious is a nice way to put my attention to extreme detail attention😄
Yes, I let the aquarium run to get things started and get the ecosystem running while I waited for the plants to be delivered. Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. Got another one coming in a few days. And working on doing two more!
Let me put my honest opinion.. Although end result is heaven i found few steps artificial, starting aquascape by copying any image (doesnt matter it won something ) and going line by line is bit uneasy.. As like nature it goes with flow aquascape idea also should be as much as like available resources like stone.. No need to break something or mold as per idea we thought..all the best ❤
Oh Thanks! I put a lot of effort into them. I use multiple pictures and edit them in Lightroom and then bring them together in ProCreate on iPad. I love that app!
@@jmaquascaping thanks for answer. But the truth is your video itself is even more captivating, i fell like i will rewatch it many times, will try to apply the thumbnail method in future. The angle of the picture must be the same or LR can corect it? I'm so noob at that...
Just similar angles and then i use the warp and distort in procreate to line it up perfectly. It would certainly save time if i set a mark on the floor to line up the two shots as they are separated by weeks.
Yea this was high as I matched it to the source water the guppies came from. My target is 170 ppm after dosing. Target numbers are calcium at 20 ppm, magnesium at 5ppm, potassium at 20 ppm, nitrate at 16 ppm, and phosphate at 3 ppm. Hope that helps.
The stone was collected in the Sierra Nevada Mountain area near Sacramento California. Tom Barr collects and you can contact him to see if any is available. He has called it El Jefe Stone.

The confidence in laying down that frosted backing. No air bubbles survived that day haha. This is a master class! So inspired!
Hah! Yea the magic of editing. Many thanks. I'm glad you found value in it and hope it helps you create your next project!
Really enjoyed this one!
Oh thanks! Glad it resonated with you.
I often try to replicate a scape I have seen but never really achieve my goal. Using the photo and dry erase markers is pure genius. Nice work!
Thanks! You can do it! It helps to understand the scale and perspective. Even after all this time I need the assist when creating something complex.
BEAUTIFUL

Woaw so impressive that is. Those little creatures live in heaven. Magical
Thanks! It is wonderful to see the fish and shrimp explore and enjoy the layout.
Great video Jeff. I truly appreciate the detailed planning to develop this piece. Can't wait for the next one!
I have said for years I wish folks could come scape with me. I think this style of video is the best we have. Thanks!

Absolutely spectacular video and tank setup. I like how you sketched the outline on the glass and made everything with such precision. Well done! 👏

Amazing 😮
Thanks 😄
Thank you Jeff for sharing the complete process. 🙏
Grateful for your comment. It means a lot.
masterclass...
I learned a lot from this video, thank you Jeff!
Excellent. I wanted to show how to aquascape instead of telling. Im glad to hear this is helpful!
Loved the way you did the video and the aquascape! Beautiful! 🤌
Glad you liked it!
It has a perfect perspective, nice depth, and a good shadow. Good work :)
Thanks. I did the final photoshoot this morning and it really turned out awesome. Can’t wait to show it off in several weeks!

This makes my day. I hope to be able to do more in the future. We will see as things are in flux for me.
Very impressive. Even harder to work to a design rather than the materials. Superb final result!
Glad you like it! Yes it is quite challenging in some ways and easier in others.
Such attention to detail and very inspiring. Awesome….thank you 🤙🏼
Im glad you loved it. Hopefully you can use some of the techniques to make your next project.
Such a peaceful content! Calming and Soothing.

The best video for this year 😊
Wow, thanks! I appreciate it. Hope you like my next one as well!
Beautiful work. I live the technique of drawing the hardscape layout on the glass I'm going to try that.
Yes, I ended up editing out some of the drawing parts to keep the pace moving. Make sure you use the appropriate marker! Glass safe!
Many thanks for sharing your amazingness with this grandiose scape.
That's very kind. I am so glad you enjoy it. It's what aquascaping is all about.
I really enjoyed this video, Jeff. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm working on two more right now.
I love the video! Learn so much from you and this video You are amazing
When I finished this one I knew it was special. Thank you!

Love this video! Honestly, I found it pretty motivating to get started on the scapes in my office.
Im so glad. That's a great compliment and I can't wait to see what you do.
Hi Jeff can I get a video about the paludarium in the background at 0:21 with the tavern and miniature. It looks absolute amazing.

I've never seen anyone draw the layout on the glass like that. I think I'll have to try this technique! Super clever!

Great vid Jeff!
Thank you Steven. Means a lot to hear after so much work and waiting!
Spectacular
I'm glad you loved it. My only hope is that many many more people can enjoy it!
Jeff- it amazes me how much of the same equipment and techniques we have in common. Though no question you are more fastidious than I am :)

@@jmaquascaping I actually am almost as fastidious as you are ... almost :)
