- IMPORTANT 2021 UPDATE: Unity 2018 is no longer compatible with VRChat. Please use Unity 2019.4.29f instead!!!
Almost finished up with finals! Been neglecting my studies to keep getting content out, so please forgive me for not having full episodes out at this given moment! I hope this tutorial was helpful, as I know the process is a bit confusing.
Make sure to double check compatibility of the VRM Converter in it's description. This video is up-to-date as of posting, but future versions may change this!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: VRChat now uses 2019 version instead of 2018! Please make sure you are using the correct version of Unity before attempting to upload your model.
do i still do 2018?
do we use the same VRM converter?
Yeah what about the converter
oh thats why f"""
@@Creeper_Boy252 wait you figured out why? i cant find the ball either..
Quick reference guide:
right click > import package > custom package > VRCSDK 2
right click > import package > custom package > VRM Converter
VRM > UniVRM-0.5x.x (in the video its 0.55.0, but I have 0.56.3 and it works fine.) > import > fileName.vrm > save
Select model > VRM > Duplicate and convert for VR Chat > turn off: fix prone avatar position > duplicate and convert > save
select model in scene > VRC avatar descriptor > adjust view position
VRChat SDK > sign in > builder > build and publish > upload
Thank You very much!! Your comment is very helpful, because I have bad memory and had to do this process on another avatar.
duplicate and convert for VR Chat doesn't show up for me. Pretty much done everything to the letter
the fuck does "convert to vrchat" mean.
@@AwsmOcean 6:10
@@sagittastarsign Make sure you have the correct version of unity, vrcsdk, and vrm converter. Also make sure you're loading the vrcsdk before the vrm converter.
HI ! I am a Taiwanese.
Although my English is not good
But I must express my gratitude.
Thank you so very very very~ much!
This teach help me up loud my first AVATAR!
I tried many methods.
But did not succeed.
So i am so excited !!!
Please let me say it again : Thank you so Very Very Very much!
P.S : I hope can expression my
gratitude . XD
You are very welcome!!
Your english is almost spot on!
you nearly nailed
Late reply, but you did really well with your English. Aside from a few mistakes, it was really good. It was also very easy to read. :)
I’m so happy for you!! Ahh! It’s the dream :)
this is the most well-made and explanatory video i have ever watched on any channel. thank you so much.
Helped me a lot but I got a little confused due to the fact I can’t see your screen clearly but it didn’t bother me much since you talked throughout the entire tutorial clearly as if you were a teacher in school. Btw just wanted to say thanks ^^
VR lecture! It actually feels a lot more engaging than your average tutorial.
Its prolly cuz she sounds like she has more personality and is more lively. Its not like a boring history teacher teaching u about smth u don't care about and has no value
I just learned VRoid recently and I enjoy making avatars in it much more than Blender/Unity tbh, and I didn't even realize uploading them to VRChat was an option! Thank you so much for this guide, honestly one of the best, most articulated, and cohesive walkthroughs for VR related stuff that I've ever watched!!
yeah blender is like so massive and daunting program compared to vroid. i mean those custom comissioned 3d models cost a lot for a reason
that wallpaper is so cute
This 3D method of teaching and going around the screen is really unique. might be nice for people doing tutorials. only draw back is the camera angles and that the VR model might block the screen. But really nice to see.
I instantly recognized Beings in the background lol
hehe madeon is my fav
@@TheVirtualRealityShow Madeon was like all I listened to in middle school. Didn't think the background music of a tutorial would trigger such specific memories.
Same dude I thought I was tripping lmao
yes
Oh god, I can't explain how helpful this was for me! I made two character models I wanted to use but didn't now how to, but this video really saved me another few weeks of work for sure!
3 years later and this is still SUPERRR helpful!!! Thank you so much, you explain so well :D
1:41 this is incorrect. In order to upload you need to be a new user rank or higher. Trusted is the highest in game
thank god u saved me
how do i get/change that?
@@kookiez8725 to get to trusted user just play the game, upload models and a map
@@Smash_ter i cant upload anything, do you know how much play time I need first? I have 14.7 hours right now
@@elsemusic3550 30 hours or until you hit new user
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I pre-ordered my Quest 2 the day sales went live and it's my first VR system I've personally owned. I have been trying to get my custom VRoid model that I made of myself to import properly to Unity for AGES and kept having an issue with the textures not coming over properly. I'd originally been following another video that allowed you to attach eye tracking to the model in Blender, so maybe that was the issue. This video finally helped me to successfully import my model to Unity and I'm so excited to be able to use it once I get my hands on my Quest 2. Your instructions were super thorough and I couldn't be happier to see myself fully modeled.
Whoa this felt like a university lecture, impressive video format. Ty!
Wow, this tutorial was amazing, it could be because your tutorial was the most recent possible making it easier to follow, but like, this was unexpectedly easy XD. Thanks for the help and you seem like an interesting person as well. It looks like I found a new UA-camr to watch ;].
17-june-2021
can confirm its still working wonderfully. ^^
i had two models and sadly one is t-posing...it was suppose to be the deluxe model.. but the standard works fine!
The way you announciate your words is so satisfying
this has been the most helpful video/tutorial i have ever watched on youtube, usually i dont understand some bits in videos but on her channel, its so easy to understand, she explains everything clearly :>>
I just made my very first custom avatar and I'm so hyped! Thank you Phia!
Apart from being very informative and well presented, I just absolutely love your energy every time, Phia!
I've always wanted my own VRChat character and your tutorials made the process super easy! Thank you so much!
a much needed break from finals... thnk u phia
Just wanted to give a shout out to you. I watched this video a while back and I've already made at least 16 different outfits for my avatar and uploaded it to VR chat (PC and Quest) using this method. Your tutorial is the best by far. And thanks to you, I can safely say I've graduated beyond a noob to an experienced avatar creator :D keep doing what you do Phia, you're awesome!
I usually struggle to watch explaining veideos bc i get bored but u make them interesting and uve become my favourite vrtuber now! Tysm 🥺😁
Thank you for this tutorial! I didn’t make a good model (especially because I’m a beginner), but I’m glad I get to have my own model in the game
Thank you so much! In the beginning, I thought I was going to slip up a bit, especially since there's different versions in the video than what I should be using, but it came out flawlessly first try!
this channel is Legit the only channel i watch for videos on how to do this stuff 😭
Just wanted to say as a 1st time user doing this your tutorial was super helpful! thank you alot 😊👍
This video was fantastic. Great editing on skipping loading portions, and awesome narration throughout. Thank you!
this was not only really helpful, but you also have a really pleasant voice to listen to! thanks so much for taking the time to make this video ☆
Oh, it was meant to be. The number of times I have come here to find the vrm converter. This video was uploaded on my birthday
Could it be possible for you to do an updated version? Your explanations are so through
Right now, you need to install the VRM converter, don't import it (also the name changed a bit). Restart Unity if the VRM-tab on the top bar doesn't show up. It is also called VRM0, but works pretty much the same.
watching this so I can start making not only my own models but models for my girlfriend, I already knew how to model in VRoid and I am really grateful
Thank you for this. I discovered that I actually had the wrong version of Unity. I assumed I had the correct version and I fooled around with this for hours only to come back to your tutorial and saw clearly that if I would have checked my version, I would have seen that it was incorrect. lol. You were such a pleasure to listen to and are so very sweet. Thank you! My avatar is now imported and working. Reiji 1.0 has been created but I have a lot of work to do before the next version. :-). Thanks again!
Update: Sadly, I appear to be able to preview my avatar in VRChat, but I cannot upload to VR Chat to finally play it. I don't even have the upload link. It's just not there to click on.
Update: Fixed. I just needed to reinstall Unity and it looks like I also needed to either change resolutions to see the button or have this running on my bigger monitor to see the upload button. Weird.
I'm concerned about taking 34 hours on making an avatar, 1 hour setting up unity, and then realize that my character I can't use in VR Chat because I have a quest
Yeah im also sad i made something i really liked get it on vrc and then boom pc only
6:20 click "For Quest"! just reopen the Unity project, delete the converted moddle and reconvert it then follow the steps as normal. Afterwards, you can open the VRChat SDK but this time click Manage Content and delete the old model!
@@KazukiP im sorry but please elaborate
@@Crown987 change your project to android, ajust the shaders and youre good to go. If you have issues with weird eye brows use blender to edit your model and remove them
@@Crown987 youll need the android sdk btw
Josh's video has been super helpful it's been so hard to find a good video that explains this thank you so much for making this video it's been a big help
OMG thanks Phia ! I'm so happy that I could made my own avi and I love your videos :D
Really good tutorial, super easy to understand.
Enjoying the content you are coming out with keep it up! :)
OH MY GOD PHIA THANK YOU SO MUCH IVE BEEN STUCK ON THIS FOR A YEARS AND U FINALLY HELPED ME OUT WITH THESE. THANKS SO MUCH!! NOW I CAN FINALLY UPLOAD MY AVATARS!
subcribing and liking the video 100% recommend this tutorial
ThaNK YOU BECAUSE OF THIS CHANNEL I FINALLY DID THE THINGS I HAD TO DO TO BECOME A VTUBER💖
Holy cow thank you for this! I think the newest VRM converter is slightly different now is Feb 2021 but your tutorial still got me through and it was nice and detailed!
Now I just have to spend more time in VRChat so that I can upload the avatar that I created. This video has been a really big help.
thank you so much, just uploaded my 1st avatar using vroid which i saw from your other video, then i uploaded it to vr chat using this video. love u♥
Thank you so much! Even tho i do not have a lot of friends i still followed the tutorial
the amount of load times that she skipped isn't even funny.
thank you for the walk through. really appreciate it
this is a great tutorial! but lil' side note for anyone in nov 2020, users+ can upload worlds and avatars, so user, known
user, and trusted user can all upload stuff!
Would there be an updated tutorial for VRM model optimization in unity as well as adding animations/expressions? Your tutorials are so clear so I'd love to see how you would go about doing these things in Unity. :)
Phia, I wanted to say thank you so much, this is something I needed help with and you got it down very easily so thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for this Phia. Took me a bit of time, as unity was being annoying, but I finally got it in the end, Thanks!
Great video! Super useful and practical! Thank you so much, uploaded my model in less than 1 hour!
I found the correct X, Y, and Z! X is 0, Y is 1.5 and Z is 0.08! Just mess around with the Y coordinates and you should be good to go as long as your characters at 0, 0!
Thanks. This is an awesome tutorial. I can use Blender quite well, but skipping a step will definitely be nice for starting out.
Omg thank you so much this tutorial has allowed me to Finnish hours of work God bless you 😆
I optimised my model in VRoid before watching this tutorial and it’s performance is set to good and only 28k polygons and 1 mesh!! :)
Thx, This helped me a lot I just need to spend more time in vrchat and then I'm done!
Wow this actually solved my problems, thank you for telling us how this all works
Heyyy got my first vrchat avatar live! Thanks, PHIA sensei!
Hi everyone! So achieving New User rank definitely takes time to be allowed to upload content, and if you want an idea of how to get there...sadly I don't have those numbers for you, but last night, I ranked up from New User to User, so I can at least give you the statistics you may want to know!
*USER RANK:*
Play Time - 154 Hours
Number of Friends - 21
May this help you in your journey towards content creation!
I appreciate this I've been working on avatars but don't know how to upload them thank youuuuuuuuu
The Voice Is Adorable!!
Thank you so much, I was getting so confused about this until I saw this video.
OH MY GOD!! this is literally the most helpful video ever especially to a new one like me! thank you phiaa :D
I love how this video is setup with the model having a pen and a holographic keyboard.
Thx for the info, took me 7 hours to make a skin with only unity, and you showed me a better path. I thank you once more.
P.S: Subscribed and liked the video on the way out.
ty so much even tho i took one wholle day to figure out i figured out it was just me being dumb and not reading the description, thank you.
this is thee most helpful guide I have found to date thank you so much
This tutorial is so damn useful, thanks so much :DDDD
Lovely and well made as per usual!
Thanks for this tutorial. I was able to make a "quick" avatar and I was able to use it in VRChat! Now I wish I could use the same avatar in FaceRig.
Thank you soo much!!! I finally got to upload my avatar to VRchat, Thank you soo much for this helpful tutorial ^w^
This and all your other videos are so helpful thank you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial Phia!
The newer versions of the converter and things seem to omit some of the options you checked off toward the end, but all seemed fine after publishing to VRChat (the eye movement specifically) but who knows...maybe I'm the one who isn't seeing straight D8
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! It helped me so much and I actually understood everything you were saying :D I appreciate you :3
PHIA 😳
Aww!! Super Cute-Cute, i Love your VRoid😊😊😊
I really apreciate the update.
I'll say this, I'm going through his tutorial for the first time and since then the software that I downloaded has updated a lot. so I had to do a lot of trail and error. But thank to PHIA and me being somewhat smart I actually figured it out.
Did you also have the problem, that importing the Vrm converter did nothing?
I'm stilll kinda stuck on what to do now
nevermind! I found out that i had to extract the Vrm package
Yeah that's a big part to making that work
thx, i was so lost on another tutorial and this one helped me understand.
Your videos are just perfect, thank you.
Thank you so much! I already used 2 weeks but failed lol now I'm the owner!
YEY! Very helpful uwu
im not sure if someone brought this up already if yes im sorry but in order to upload an avatar to VRchat you infact dont need to be a trusted or even known user but instead a New User (which can be reached very simpily) because known user ("rank" 3/4) is reached by having a certiant amout of hours and friends in the game and haveing uploadet atleast 1 avatar to become trusted user ("rank" 4/4) you need to have enought friends, hours uploadet atleast 1 avatar and 1 world to VRC (sry if i made any spelling mistakes but englisch is not my first language)
Thumbnail got me actin up
If you guys can't upload custom avatars yet then just leave the game open on your computer until you get the email. I left mine on and went to sleep overnight and sure enough I was allowed to upload!
Thank you so very much for the tutorial! :)
Thank you, Thank you! I finally was able to upload my oc to Vrchat!
you are a godsend. thank you so much, you helped me a lot in my adventure into vr and vtubing and the virtual world
dont have a plan to use vr but your voice is amazing so ill use it as background music while i do things,
i know, weird
Thank you so much! This was just the thing I need to know how to make one. I think you should make a advanced guide. Like how to add animations and such to your avatar.
THANK U SO MUCHHHH
YOU'RE A LIFE SAVIOUR AA❤❤❤❤❤❤
lol you and proto should go on a date in vrchat on stream
The voice is like the female version of Morgan freeman. Pleasant to listen to
great video, finally got my own avatar
I'm attempting to use my avatar in homeschooling zoom meetings 😂
Hi! I just wanted to ask that, where did you get your avatar from at 5:55 ? Bc, i didn't found one
i like the draw cam cus its like the scene where light is writing in the deathnote
DONT WORRY ABOUT THE RANK THING! ive spent 13 to 12 hours in vrchat *not in a row* and i got the user rank like that so dont worry about that plus thats ALOT of time to make your vrchat avatars!
I made TWO VR Chat Avatars in Vroid... Now I just need to Polish my Blender skills. Bleh. lol. Hopefully I can get to making worlds too. My friend got me hooked on Vroid and I cant stop. lol. Learning slowly right now. Just made a female avatar even tho I'm male. Based her off a anime character I like. :) How ever, I wish I can add stuff for toggling items. Like get a Master Sword Model and a Key Blade Model, etc. Or add a Ocarina of Time, etc. Idk how to do that. T_T And I suck at programming too. Phia do you have any tutorials world making too? Just curious. :) Love learning from you. :) Btw at the beginning of your video what platform are you using? It with the marker etc. It looks pretty dope. :) If you can let me know I'd appreciate it. ^_^ Been curious. Sorry. :) New fan. :)
