I we’re incredibly blessed to have an artist who is willing to teach their beautiful and rare form of art. Thank you, Diane! I’m looking forward to getting my silk painting sheets to get started.
Love this! I am a painter and have kind of been doing a version of this in my own style. Now I see how I can add to my work and learn something new by painting on silk- I’ve never painted on silk and just ordered your kit! Exciting!
Thank you for showing us your drawing. It is incredibly fascinating to watch the pigeon take its shape step by step. I look forward to further teaching content from you. Kind regards
Loved this video Diane. I am waiting with much anticipation the course that you will be providing for your students. Your work gives me peace and happiness. Thank you! You are an amazing talent to our world.
Gratitude Diane, once again your generous spirit and talent shines brightly! So I've just ordered a set of your brushes in addition to the silk paper I have already from you and so very excited to begin painting! Thank you, B x 😘
From one ARTIST to another bravo, thank you for sharing this beautiful technique. Your control is amazing. Your artwork is lovely and your color choices are perfect bravo bravo.
Thank you soooo much Diane for sharing. This is such a fantastic tutorial. You are such a great real teacher, absolutely no need to be self critical, you did an amazing job, well done! Can't wait to receive my brushes and silk paper to get going. Thank you again. x
your work is like a dream, so stunning. i am also an artist, so i have some confidence that i can do this - however you make it look easy! i simply cannot wait to try this. i want to do a whole chinoiserie in my dining room, so i will contact you on how to order the paper and brushes. thank you so much for putting this out there on youtube, just brilliant
I have admired your work for a long time, and I love that you have given us this amazing demonstration. You do really beautiful things with gouache! I love this.
Beautiful. I found some peel and stick wallpaper that took me down the rabbit hole of Chinoiserie. I love it and adore your work. I was looking for some images that I could copy or use as inspiration. Even went downtown to The Peacock Room at the Smithsonian in DC. What patience and skill it takes to paint like that!
This was mesmerising, thank you so much! I've been rather obsessed with chinoiserie for decades and it's been wonderful to see your business progress. With your help I really hope I can create some of my own! I can hardly wait to get your ebook on the 22nd and I really hope your e learning course comes soon after! Thank you so very much for sharing your incredible skills x
Thank you! I have some free resources available and a course on the way! 🖌️You can check it all out here: dianehill.co.uk/pages/learn-to-paint-chinoiserie-art
Thank you Janine! I have some more information about working with gouache watercolour paints in my e-book, you mind that helpful ☺️ dianehill.co.uk/pages/ebook-how-to-paint-chinoiserie-art
If possible, show us in the next lesson how to apply a design from capirka paper to paper!!!! Have you done this with a bird's paw? You can tell us and show us how to do it step by step. We will be very happy!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your techniques! I know it takes time and can be daunting to do tutorials, so it is much appreciated. I love that you explain your thoughts and when something doesn’t go to plan (like the pigeon’s head) you showed how you changed it into a result you liked. I have been using Chinese watercolor paints in the gongbi style on cicada wing paper and have a difficult time getting the same color dynamics, even with many many layers. I would love to try the gouache paints and your silk papers. I am curious - are your silk papers already paper-backed or do they need to be mounted once the painting is complete?
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me feedback, the silk paper is already paper backed :) I often give it a quick iron after I finish a painting and leave weighed down in between books for a super smooth finish!
Thanks for a great tutorial! For anyone thinking of painting along, I recommend watching the whole thing first as there's a section where Diane redoes some of the feather work - I'd diligently followed her previous steps so did want to cry a little bit at that point 😂 Looking forward to the full course and tips on mixing the right consistency of paint as I've definitely not nailed it yet!
Hi Caroline, Oh no I am so sorry!! I will bare this in mind for future videos, feedback like this is super helpful. Please share your bird painting with me, I would love to see the result :)
Your work is truly one of a kind, just stunning! May I ask, how are larger wallpanels treated after the painting is finished, to make it more durable (as wallcovering) and not water-soluble? I imagine only guache on silk would be incredibly sensitive?
Thank you!! I worked at one of the worlds leading silk wallpaper studios and we did not seal or varnish panels unless specifically requested for a high moisture area like a bathroom, or for an events space with very high traffic. Varnish can change the beautiful soft sheen of the silk, and cannot be brushed on. If someone caused damage to a silk wallpaper, I would visit and touch up with more painting, or we would ship them cut out butterflies to apply on top of marks.
I just recently stumbled upon you on IG, gorgeous work! Beautiful video, I paint birds and botanicals as well. I love your approach and sharing the background of Chinoiserie. 🌿✌🏼🤎
