@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport Yes, I have effectively, located the device with this service, however, the 'LOCK' option does not present itself as an option adjacent to select. Thank you for your assistance and quick response!
We’re glad to know that you’re able to find your Surface Pro device.
For your reference, you will only be able to lock your device if the user has connected it to the internet and your Microsoft account is signed in to the lost device for which you're the administrator.
Can you confirm if you set your Microsoft account as the administrator for your Surface Pro? Or are you using a local user instead?
If your Microsoft account is not set as the administrator, the ‘Lock’ option will not be available.
Thank you for your understanding.
@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport I am unsure, there is no reason I should not be the admin. How do I know, or change it?
You can only change the administrator of a device you have access to. In your case, you’re unable to remotely change the admin to your Surface device.
With that said, if you’re still unable to lock your stolen device, we highly recommend that you get in touch with your local authorities, so they can help you further locate your Surface and possibly recover it.
Your understanding are very much appreciated.

Hello Team. What happens if my device got stolen and someone has format it and reinstall it to use it. Can I still get the location of the device. Please reply. Urgent
Hello there! From what we can see, you wanted to know if you can still locate your device even if Windows has been reinstalled or reformatted already. We know the urgency of your concern, and allow us to assist you on this. By the way, our sincere apologies for the late response.
Quick answer, you can no longer locate the device. Find My Device is a feature that can help you locate your Windows 10 device if it's lost or stolen. To use this feature, you need to sign in to your device with a Microsoft account. The same account will also be used to locate the device. Since Windows has been reinstalled, the associated Microsoft account has been removed also, which means that the feature will no longer work.
Please let us know if you need further clarification.
How are you today? We hope you’re doing great. You recently reached out to us, clarifying if you can still locate a device that has been reformatted. We just want to send a follow-up message to check how things are on your end and whether you still need our assistance.
To give you a quick run-through, we explained that reformatting or reinstalling Windows on a device will remove the associated Microsoft account, which is the main key in locating it using the "Find My Device" feature.
Should you have other Microsoft-related concerns, please don't hesitate to get back to us. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Collins.
We have received your concern about enabling the location setting of your stolen device. We understand that you are looking for any possible way in order to retrieve your device. And we hope for the best. Allow us to assist you.
Find My Device is a feature that can help you locate your Windows 10 device if it's lost or stolen. To use this feature, sign in to your device with a Microsoft account and make sure you're an administrator on it. This feature works when location is turned on for your device, even if other users on the device have turned off location settings for their apps. Any time you attempt to locate the device, users using the device will see a notification in the notification area.
• This setting works for any Windows device, such as a PC, laptop, Surface, or Surface Pen. It needs to be turned on before you can use it.
• You can't use it with a work or school account, and it doesn't work for iOS devices, Android devices, or Xbox One consoles. Here's what to do if your Xbox gets stolen.
You can follow the steps in this link on how you can turn on the Find my device: msft.it/6058wZyi2.
Let me know if you need farther assistance.
@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport I did all that but unfortunately im getting feedback that the location on m stolen device is turned off
Apologies for the delay in our response. Please know that since the location is off, Microsoft has no visibility on your device. This is the only way you can detect the location of your device through "Find My Device" feature. We highly recommend that you report this to your local authority instead for further investigation.
With this being said, we know that your laptop is very important to you; however, we have exhausted all steps and recommendations available to assist you.
Microsoft places the security of all accounts on devices as a top priority, and therefore, we are unable to further assist you if the location is off on your device. We will now archive your case.

I'm testing this out with a new Windows laptop. If the laptop is powered on but not signed in, it can't be found. I would like to lock theives out of my pc before they can get into it. We understand that you wanted to lock out other people who find your laptop before accessing the device in case it gets stolen or is missing. Your effort in testing out the feature is really appreciated. Allow us to take a closer look at this matter, so we can provide the best course of action.
1. Which version of Windows do you have? To check, just type and enter "winver" in the search box.
2. Is the location turned on for your device when you try to find it while not signed in?

@Microsoft help
Hello there! Our apologies for the late message.
We saw your comment/post with regard to finding lost Windows 11 device. By design, the Find My Device feature in Windows 11 is disabled. Please allow us to share the following steps for the Find my Device option in Windows 11:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device.
2. You can see the button next to Find my device is turned off. You need to click it to manually turn it on to enable this feature.
In the event that you want to track your Windows 11 device, you may refer to the following steps:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device.
2. Click See all your devices linked to your account to continue.
3. You'll be directed to a page. Sign in to your Microsoft account if required.
4. The page will show all devices that link to your Microsoft account. Find the device you want to find. Then, click Find my device under the device icon to continue.
5. Next, you will be able to find the location of your device. If your laptop is lost or stolen, you can click the Lock button to lock it.; however, if you see Location unknown on the page, you need to click the Find button to locate the device.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

How can you find a lost laptop?
Can the laptop automatically guess local Wi-Fi passwords? Can it take codes from SMS?
Can Windows connnect on its own to local open (ever more rare) Wi-Fi networks?
How is a thief supposed to deal with the Windows account password? If he's got access he might as well turn off the feature, if he doesn't, then he's probably not being Internet connected.
Hi, Tobias. We understand that you wish to know more information on how you can find a lost laptop. We're here to assist you.
Please know that you can use the "Find my device" feature on Windows 10 computers, this feature works when location settings is enabled, you're signed in to a PC with a Microsoft account, and logged in with a local administrator account.
Laptops can't automatically guess Wi-Fi passwords, but it can detect public Wi-Fi that has no password so it can be connected to the internet.
As for the SMS codes, can you tell us more information about this query?
Meanwhile, if someone took your laptop, we highly recommend that you lock it on your end through these steps:
1. To lock your Windows device remotely, when you find your device on the map using the Find my device feature, select Lock > Next.
2. Once your device is locked, you can reset your password for added security. For more info about passwords, see Change or reset your Windows password: msft.it/6052kzZaG.
Instead of just using a password, you can also use Windows Hello. Windows Hello is a more personal, more secure way to get instant access to your Windows 10 devices using a PIN, facial recognition, or fingerprint. You may check more information about that on this link: msft.it/6053kzZaH.
Feel free to get back to us.
@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport Thank You I didn't expect to get a meaningful reply.
My query is fulfilled as for the SMS I was wondering if Windows could use on-device hardware to connect to the Internet, which I am certain it could but since my laptop isn't fitted with a modem we can gloss on my request.

Where should I send the screenshots
My account status is active means I can see all the options after logging into my account.
And after entering the pin it shows only this:: An administrator has restricted sign in. To sign in, make sure your device is connected to the Internet, and have your administrator sign in first.
It's a personal account.
