very detail & immaculate about your tour setup! love it
Great overview of your bike build. I can tell you have thought about this a long time, you have some great and useful ideas. I agree with the aerobars for touring, they give you another hand position, and are great to have on your bike for long tours. Wishing you all the best on your next adventure !
Nice build, thanks for sharing and good luck with the trip.
Thank you! Been going well so far!
Thank you for the information. I have just added this shock absorber to my GenesisTDF30, and it is fantastic!!!!!!
You will love it. If you are touring or carrying a handlebar bag of some sort then I would recommend adding that weight to your overall weight for a better ride.
Very nice bike build.
Very nice build. I've been thinking of doing some of the same mods to my touring bicycle, especially the shifters and shock stem.
that was the most informing, helpful and great and simple made video of a bike setup for bikepacking, helped a lot thanks, for that and have good trip! :)
Thanks for the kind words! If you ever have any further questions feel free to ask and Ill see if can help. See you out there!
Top bicycle…Amazing 💛💛
Nice. I've just replaced my brooks b17 after 30,000 miles (maximum adjustment) and one of my ortlieb bags after 50,000 after it got a hole in the bottom. Both are very reliable. 👍
The 3 extra spokes on the rear frame is super cool. I'd recommend the Sensah SRX Pro 1x11 groupset - good levers and clutch derailleur with a barrel adjuster included, a really nice crankset and bottom bracket per your budget, 36T chainring and try to find the newest design rear cassette with a 9-52 range over the 10-52, they're machined from one piece and almost half the weight, hollow link 11 speed chain. Tubeless setup of course. All the weight you pull off the rear wheel and drivetrain is going to be huge plus cleaning up the cockpit
Interesting. I have never heard if thhis groupset. Id be curious if your prefer a 1x groupset for touring? Cool insight to look at!
Great build. I couldn't afford the dynamo hub or light.. I ended up with a Solar Battery pack that has 2 USB outlets for charging GPS, lights and other electronics.. :). it is working great..
Hey enjoyed you video, keep them coming!
Thank you! Should be having a bit more in spring once things warm up!
Those aerobridges are a great feature 😁
They have been great so far. Its been surprising how many different uses I have found for them on tour.
Personally I think I'd go a whole lot lighter but there's no right or wrong way to bike tour. I think you'll get on fine with the bar-end shifters - very simple and precise.
Nice video, very straight-forward. I like the backdrop/setting as well. I really dig the Bombtrack and I'm interested to see how she performs, your thoughts, etc. Looking forward to your next video. All the best, cheers!
Hoping to get an update around the 6 month mark but after 4000+ k and 3 months she has been a dream. Very little issues with the Bomb and very happy with the set up mostly!
@@pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 Lovely build ...hope you didn't cheap out on a lock lol😆
Excellent 👍
+1 on the TT bars, so important to give the hands a rest, the key is to have them raised high as you have. Surprised people don't go with carbon wheels though, I've done several long distance trips with them never even had to true the wheels after thousands of kilometers.
Sweet!
Perfect.
Wow PPE, the Bombtrack are certainly an awesome bike but i don't think they had this model in Australia when i bought my Touring bike. My Vivente World Randonneur is set up very similar to yours except the aerobars and top stem charger but everything else I have, the dyno, TRP Hydraulic brakes integrated AXA lights front and rear and can charge my phone and stuff from my actual light which has USB, Tubus racks front and rear only my front rack doesn't have the top loop and it's a steel frame. Bar end shifters you will find to be fantastic once you get used to them. Mine has Shimano Dura-ace bar-ends and it's great that you can do a full swoop of gears when you need to without the constant single clicking of an indexed system and you'll find them useful in the bar-ends. Many younger Bicycle tourers have been spoilt with the indexed brifter style and whilst reliable, when things go wrong with them....they are really bad and you don't want that in the middle of nowhere. Great set up.....love some of the gear you've got on yours and I might try and adapt on mine.....I think i'll skip the aerobars as my 64 yr old back might not get down that far lol.
Looking forward to see how you go with it....cheers from Downunder.
Perfect bike and set-up. I've never used disk brakes, What are the advantages of disk brakes?
Hello! So its a personal preference honestly. For me, I prefer the stopping power when carrying so much weight. I have not once had an issue in rain, snow or mud. I also find them so much easier to maintain and tune. They also last much longer for me so far.
The big reason to NOT use them in my opinion is that they can be hard to find pads or discs in more remote countries. You can always find the parts for rubber pads, no matter the country and so a lot of tour setups use them for that reason alone.
It's better to carry a triangle in the middle you can carry up to 4 bottles there
Other than the bar end shifters & the aero bars, I think that's a real nice bike. I like it.
😊👍🌻
Have you considered putting the barend shifters on the aerobars, instead of the end of the bars? 🤔
I actually have considered that and think it would actually work really really well. The problem is, I would have to drill a hole in the Aeros for wire routing and also need a different diameter shifter. Otherwise I would strongly consider that switch.
Install new and unfamiliar equipment.. just prior to a major ride. Excellent plan. The plastic water bottles are brilliant as well, who needs durable stainless steel.
You make a very good point there. Test before you go. Luckily I was able to do about a 1000 km of testing with this rig before leaving to work out some small kinks.
Great video. Can I ask what was the base cost and base weight of your bike (before mods)? Thanks...
Hey! Yes of course. Base weight is 14.7 kg for a medium. And I believe MSRP is around 2500€.
Hola! Exportan a Argentina la Bombtrack?
What kind of switch did you use to charge your phone, power bank etc? I have a shimano dynamo hub to power lights, but I would like to be able to charge my phone and power bank. Thanks!
Hey! Sadly I only had access to a common waterproof switch from Bauhaus that is used for patios or boats etc. It worked great with no issues but was a bit bigger. If you can find something smaller I would highly recommend it.
nice setup! hows it riding?
Hey! Its been a bit over 4000 km at this point and almost no changes. I wore out the tires and swap them to Schwalbe Marathon Pros and put some wider pedals on but these rest is the same and trucking well!
@@pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 Awesome! I have a wrist injury so the redshift stem looks ideal, has it helped to dampen shocks on the road? It's hard to find stock for the Bombtrack Arise Tour!
@@sittingonthebeach So I broke my wrist years ago and have had issues with it on bikes. The redshift stem has been a lifesaver. It feels stiff enough on road to not notice and so smooth on gravel. Play with the weight bands though as I have found when carrying a stem bag I prefer to up the bands.
As far as Bombtrack. Shoot me and email and Ill try to help see whats on the market for you! mckenleynewman@gmail.com
Voice of Kermitt the 🐸
where did you find that nice b17 Brooks?
Actually found it on a german ebay site for 25 euros! Its used but has held up on scathed for the last 13000 km.
Total width of your wheels? On mm please.
I use 40 mm which I much prefer.
Microshift components? whats wrong with shimano?
Nothings wrong with Shimano for sure! I just have really enjoyed my Microshifts and they have been a dream so far on tour. I dont think you could go wrong with either.
Bombtrack doesn’t offer a Shimano setup dipshit and you have to go up to Dura-Ace to get this quantity of shifters
Wow that bike must weigh a tonne
Must be so heavy
She isnt light fully packed, but she is a tank for sure.
Great build! All you need now is your urologist on speed dial because of that saddle! Way to go 'numb nuts!'
6000km in with no padded shorts needed. Absolutely love my saddle!
drop bar , wrong choise
Drop bar, wrong for some riders, right for other riders, do what works best for you.
For sure not for everyone I agree, but my riding style I absolutely love it. Didnt really care for flats or butterflies surprisingly.
my wife just bought me a marin four corners, took the gravel bars off straight away and put on my butterfly bars and a b17 saddle . what a bike now so comfortable.
Choise is the wrong choice.
@@freespeechoneeach I am currently riding with an Irish guy who has been using his butterflies. He loves them. I feel if you enjoy a less aggressive riding position they really are the go to. Im sure she will love it!
I’m pretty much copying your bike bro ☘️🐺☘️
"touring is not about aero".. a sudden epiphany I suppose
Depends on the tourer I guess. Ive been blown away by some aero setups out here.
