    Wow PPE, the Bombtrack are certainly an awesome bike but i don't think they had this model in Australia when i bought my Touring bike. My Vivente World Randonneur is set up very similar to yours except the aerobars and top stem charger but everything else I have, the dyno, TRP Hydraulic brakes integrated AXA lights front and rear and can charge my phone and stuff from my actual light which has USB, Tubus racks front and rear only my front rack doesn't have the top loop and it's a steel frame. Bar end shifters you will find to be fantastic once you get used to them. Mine has Shimano Dura-ace bar-ends and it's great that you can do a full swoop of gears when you need to without the constant single clicking of an indexed system and you'll find them useful in the bar-ends. Many younger Bicycle tourers have been spoilt with the indexed brifter style and whilst reliable, when things go wrong with them....they are really bad and you don't want that in the middle of nowhere. Great set up.....love some of the gear you've got on yours and I might try and adapt on mine.....I think i'll skip the aerobars as my 64 yr old back might not get down that far lol. Looking forward to see how you go with it....cheers from Downunder.

    +1 on the TT bars, so important to give the hands a rest, the key is to have them raised high as you have. Surprised people don't go with carbon wheels though, I've done several long distance trips with them never even had to true the wheels after thousands of kilometers.

    Has somebody living and cycling in Europe Food costs are like everything since the supply chain and War in Ukraine are now suffering from inflation fallout .every week things cost a little more .has for wild or stealth camping be careful some parts do not allow such activities and can lead to heavy fines . This can vary within a country on a state level some allow others not. Also restrictions may be in place because of the unprecedented hot weather and the ongoing wild fires that have taken place through out central Europe . In Germany I know for a fact for the most part Wild Camping is not allowed but their are abundant campsites and hostels or hotels that caterer for cycle tourists. I can not say what the rules are in France or Italy or Austria. Inflation in the major thing here as it is everywhere. Turkey is really suffering bad from price inflation I have read here in the German news because we have a large Turkish community who travel back and forth. Bike parts are also suffering with many items in short supply or out of stock .I know some brands of tyres like WTB are in limited stock. Though so far Schwalbe at least here in Germany can still be found. My case in point being the near m two month search to replace my former tour / comute bike after it gave up the ghost .I only last week managed to find a replacement, I had looked at Bombtrack. Salsa .kona and so forth only to be met with out of stock in size XL or L waiting time for delivery could be as long as April 2023 . But I finally picked up a 2023 Marin Four Corners .this should arrive this week I hope. Again price inflation as seen more of these Adventure/gravel bikes prices shoot through the roof upwards of 400 euro+. You have a good build there Bombtrack make a good bike that is for sure, and would have been my first choice other than they are now above my planned current budget .we can not afford to pay to much out with the current worries of our food and energy cost that we will be facing over the winter months. I think it is great what you are attempting regardless of these challenging times. It is also a good age to do it. I am 56 and still want to do some touring not sure about around the world but there is plenty to do just here in the major Central European nations to keep me busy. Safe travels look forwards to more updates.

    • @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096
      @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 2 роки тому

      I am blessed to have been out of Europe before the inflation began to really sky rocket I must admit. But I have wild camped in every country and as long as you are smart and respectful I never had an issue which dramatically lowers the cost of touring. And you are so right about the bike industry right now! There is the highest demand for bikes and parts in decades and I have been looking for some Schwalbe marathons for about two months with no luck! Sad to hear you couldnt find a Bombtrack as mine has been wonderful but the four corners is a solid option. I have seen a handful of them on the tour! Either way congrats on a new bike and getting out ther!

    • @clockdva20
      @clockdva20 2 роки тому

      @@pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 Schwalbe Marathon are not a major issue of course living in the country of origin helps . Also import costs to the US push the prices up .I have pretty much the same issue with these shitty Vee branded Tyres they are now fitting to the Four corners since their standard WTB tyres are not available at this time my options are buying new Schwalbe or Vitoria. Or Continental rubber Marathons are great bar there weight. I normally use the none Marathon + tyres with green gard they lack some of the bullet proof protection of the full + series but are not has heavy .I had no flats with both types. Also their 365 all seasons tyres are excellent same bomb proof construction with a more aggressive team pattern and can handle all year around conditions. They are not the best rollers though. I am currently looking at G Series in a 47 or 2.10 size 29 622 or 28 622 .but belive me the prices are insane 0ver 60 euros per tire is pushing it even for me .but I do have older tyres I can recycle off my now redundant rim brake wheels .since the marin is my first all disc bike. If this new bike arrives quick enough tomorrow and I can get it built up then I can get a test ride in before my Holidays are over at the end of this week. Next time you should do Northern Europe vist the home of Bombtrack in Koln(Cologne) and then come to Hamburg and B erlin, nice thing here is it is fairly flat terrain in the North of Europe and well provide for cyclists. Yes bike sales have exploded last years sales figures in Germany were over 5+million bikes sold

    Basic flaw in calculations - a difference of 2.5 kmh does not translate to 25 km more, as most touring days (for me) involve a riding time of about 4 hours. A 5-hour riding time is a solid day, and a 6-7 hr riding day is a really tough day. We are talking about touring here, not racing. You take breaks, see the sights, stop to eat, or take a walk. Riding for 8-10 hours per day is something that I certainly would very rarely be doing. At 22kmh that would mean you are travelling 176-220 km. That is NOT what my touring days look like! A more realistic distance difference to quote would be about 10-12 km. Yes, this is a bit, but nothing too major. After all it is the difference between carrying tent, sleeping bag, clothes and food, and carrying nothing. I know what I would rather have on my tours. I have toured with people who have a 'distance-at-all-costs' mentality, riding uber-light bikepacking rigs. They can cover more ground at faster speeds, but they certainly do miss out on a lot of the sights along the road, and have a less comfortable time in camp as well.

    • @petesig93
      @petesig93 2 роки тому

      So you actually have a riding time of 8hours as a routine? At even a 20kmh average speed (and my touring average is closer to 25kmh) you would typically be riding about 160kmh per day 🤔 Personally I am happy to cover 50-100kmh - depending upon the type of place that I am touring - as covering more than this means I would be rushing through without the time to explore, sightsee and spend time with the land and/or the people. Here in Australia, in sparser country it will be more like 80-100 (except in the mountains and on rough tracks), but in high scenic value places, or in Europe with so many villages and towns to explore, it will be more like 50-60 km per day. YMMV.

    • @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096
      @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 2 роки тому

      All good points! This calculation came from the past 4 months that I had been touring. I generally ride about 8 hours a day plus stops, sites, museums, food etc. I based this amount on what I had done on average everyday on tour up to that point. But I understand this is a relative number to my touring so if you ride less then you can adjust these numbers to your personal ride time.

    • @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096
      @pedalpaddleexpeditions1096 2 роки тому

      @@petesig93 On average I am biking 6 to 8 hours yes. Then on top of that I have my planned stops. Since I wild camp mostly I do not like to set up camp before dark. So I normally wake up at sunrise as you do with camping and bike and play until dark which is anywhere between 10 to 15 hours daylight depending on season and country. It works for me but I do know I am above average on daily distance.

      Spain is a Cycling nation just like France ,Holland and Italy they all have plenty of cyclist racing in the likes of the Tour de France and other Classic European races. Holland is proberly the most bike friendly nation with an amazing bike supporting infrastructure. then the Nordic nations Denmark to Sweden .Finland all have brilliant cycling paths systems and camping. Germany is a mixed bag with its cycle routes and paths some can be great others are really bad as I have learnt since living here. Being a car nation .but this is changing with Cycle sales outstripping cars now fir several years in a row. France is also seeing a lot of change with some cities changing their roads from cars to cycle only .this I noticed first hand while in Paris back in Feb 2022. Car drivers in mainland Europe are far more respectful towards cyclists too , than say in the UK were I originally come from , I still carry the scars from been hit while cycling there in the 80's . It is best just to check up on the traffic laws for the country you are traveling in beforehand. Germany had some odd road rules at some Red lights you can turn right under red but the most not, and on side road you must always give way to cars coming out of right hand junctions. When I was in Poland last week I found the drivers crazy very few cycle paths road speed limits of upto 140 kmh ( 80 mph ) on normal A roads and side roads most travel much faster than that .I was really glad to be in a car and not cycling .but it would be a great country to cycle around for sure from the places we visited, there were plenty riding around on bikes to but am not use to those types of A road speeds or the narrower roads in Poland. They did remind my of the UK. But even those freak me out after living in Germany for over 12 years I have gotten use to more space and cycle paths of some description but sure mainland Europe is friendly towards cyclists.

      Hello! So its a personal preference honestly. For me, I prefer the stopping power when carrying so much weight. I have not once had an issue in rain, snow or mud. I also find them so much easier to maintain and tune. They also last much longer for me so far. The big reason to NOT use them in my opinion is that they can be hard to find pads or discs in more remote countries. You can always find the parts for rubber pads, no matter the country and so a lot of tour setups use them for that reason alone.
