Such a simple but effective tutorial... Straight to the point and easy to follow. Could you do one on snare design within Serum?

Cool, thanks for your comment and glad if it helped ! As for the snare tutorial, it would be hard to nail it in less that 2 minutes, as the sound design is slightly more complex =)

A psytrance soundset for Serum is currently in the making, we'll do our best to cover this topic in a video when it will be released !

      Hi Matt,
Thanks for your comment ! I would reply that you can actually shape the sound to pretty much what you want if you clearly understand the process shown in the video:
If you want more ‘subs’ and less ‘thump’ as you describe it, you could for instance rework the envelopes shapes and times so that it modulates the sine pitch/frequency quicker to reach the subs that you want.
Additionally, you could try to use another LFO as an amplitude enveloppe to modulate the volume and add more contrast between High/Mids/Lows, so that the end/tail (and so that subs) would be slightly louder in volume than the transient/highs/mids...
Another option could be to dip the mids with the EQ effect using a wide Q, but I guess this would sound a bit less natural (and probably mess the phase a bit too) than the method explained above.
It all depends what you’re after, and if you experiment further with the settings shown in the video, you can do pretty much anything to fit your tastes. I hope this helps !

Why use two LFOs doing the same thing? Does the effect get exaggerated?

    • @TunecraftSounds
      @TunecraftSounds  2 роки тому +1

Hi ! Thanks for your input, that's a great question indeed ! 🙂
Although you could get the same result with only one modulation source, there are multiple reasons why proceeding with 2 LFOs modulating the same parameter can help:
First is, both modulations and effect cumulates on the pitch, doubling the modulation range to get the result we want and end up with a typical Psytrance kick. So you're absolutely right on this.
But then it also allows more control on the final sound since you can edit each curve and point on both LFOs separately, making it slightly more sensitive to subtle changes.
Thus you can theorically get a broader kind of kicks and variations by performing small tweaks than when using only one source that will affect the pitch more drastically.
      Hope this makes sense !

Its so hard to learn simple things like this when you have a learning disability, i think its the 50th time i watch this video and honestly I still have trouble understanding it cause well I'm not visual at all. Good tutorial tho, its better than the others which tell you to "click here and do this" without showing you where that is !

@@TunecraftSounds It sure did, this must be by far the simplest explanation on how to make a kick Ive came across, while it might not be the way to get the absolute better result, i think once you understand the concept that is explained in this video, you can figure out how to make a kick on your own using other more complex ways. Thanks a lot !

    • @TunecraftSounds

@@mentaldyslexia You totally get the point ! As you said, once you understand the underlying concept of kick design, you can then explore and adapt it to your needs 😊
At the end of the day, sound design is just a matter of trial and errors !
