      The Roman army had a magazine fed ballista, it was the first known use of the chain drive and could be fired continously as long as a ammo man was feeding it as the gunner targeted. It was a rotating feeder that cocked the bow as it fed a new bolt.

    You are a genius, Joerg. You are slowly closing the gap between crossbows and guns! At least in regards to speed and magazine capacity. I have a really good idea! If you wanna add even more arrows, take some inspiration from the British Bren machine gun. I wouldn’t necessarily call it “canted” sights, they’re more of an “offset” pair of sights to compensate for its massive magazine that sits on top of it just like the adder. It could literally be the archery version of one of the coolest and goofiest machine guns ever made.

    Next iteration: Making it even wider by like 10mm (why not, who cares?) and have a speedloader cartridge which is put with the arrows into the glider so that the pressure arm pushes them as usual into the rail. If empty you take the cartridge out of the slider and add a new one already stacked with bolts.
    The iteration after that will have the pressure arm attached to the cartridge, thus you'll have a quick eject and no hassle with lifting the arm for reloading. I think these are the natual next steps.

    With this magazine, the real limitation seems to be the operating movement. I wonder if it would be feasible to operate the crossbow more like a lever action, perhaps with a shoulder hook, so that you don't have to unshoulder and shoulder it every time, and just move your right arm in an arc, while keeping the weapon shouldered and on target.

      I don't think you can reach without pulling the weapon up, it's a very long action and rather heavy too (remember everything Joerg does looks easier), aswell and a little awkward in the hand
      But a modification to the whole lever might make that possible, maybe have the lever grip behind the trigger, jammed in the stock, to gather as much space as possible for you to reach the end of the action without changing sighting, also a different highly ergonomic grip on that lever for you to apply the force effectively throughout the near 180 the action rotates

    I would definitely buy this and I'm sure many others would as well. I'd love to have the versatility of the lighter standard capacity magazine with speed loaders on the belt for mobility PLUS a big ol' honkin' double stack high capacity beast for bench shooting, especially with that bipod. I have a similar two piece unit on my AR-15 and it works great. Please do whatever testing is necessary and make this happen. That is too cool NOT to have.

  • @archangel9114
    @archangel9114 2 роки тому +5

    Hi George, here's an idea for you, you can make one that loads about 100 bolts (50 in each mag) but the mags have to be side by side connecting in the center maybe at a 120°angle on top of crossbow. You can call it "the beast master"

    You should modify the loading lever with an easy to grab handle for your left hand. This would allow you to quickly load without having to lower the crossbow. Otherwise awesome work, would love to see the 18 arrow loader available for purchase.

    This is great, but what I'd really love to see in the production are some of the modifications you made for the zombie apocalypse version. Specifically the ones that allow you to cock the weapon without taking it off your shoulder. I think that would be incredibly useful in a home defense scenario.

    Could the red dot/laser sight be mounted to the side? That would remove the restriction on the height of the magazine.

    • @riffhurricane
      @riffhurricane 2 роки тому

      I have a laser on the side rail of mine; its good but only useful at short rage due it being offset to the side. The red dot on the side would have you holding the crossbow at a weird angle to be able to look down it so wouldn't really work.
