U sign beautifully. Keep practicing as u are getting better Day by day. I am proud of u smile. Yup I have been in the same boat when friends forgot that I am deaf. Nothing new about that. Don't give up and fight what u believe in. I know you are intelligent and able to show what u can do anything except using your ears. High five and hugs!

I'm happy to see that you are learning and using more ASL. I've been watching a lot of your videos. It's encouraging to see you gain access to a language and a community that you were denied growing up.

You are not alone! I believe all of us Deaf that use our voice experience this. Personally, it is the same as forgetting someone's religious affiliation when it comes to food or clothing, etc.

It's one thing when people forget you're deaf but worse when they know and instead of talking to you they direct all questions to your interpreters face. I went to a restaurant with my best friend and the waitress totally ignored her, even though she lip reads and voices.

When I was 6 years old, I was at private school. My old teacher was being mean to me. During that time I didn't have any language such ASL nor spoken in English. almost everyday my old teacher used ruler and smashed on the table near me a shouting at me. I was horrified of her. I was not able communicate anyone especially I worn cochlear but never help, not once. I was watching people doing something or talking about me (I can't remember if they looking me as shame on me or something). My parents don't understand why I was scared. That time I felt so audism because private school teacher have no experience with deaf people and scared mon-fri. My grades was proved without interpreters or asl skills, I failed with perfect 0 except one word I get what my old teacher said go and that it. You are not only one who felt that many deaf people in this earth experience it before.

me all the time in school, family and s.o they often complain why i dont listen or we get in to arguments why i dont wear my hearing aids -.- im like why you dont where your glasses everyday oh same damn thing. Never liked my hearing aids. People in school think i use my hearing loss as an excuse or being a jackass because i dont hear them or they talk n cover their mouth, walk away and turn their back. one thing that pissed me off the most when theres group i ask what going on. iI always get oh its nothing dude i will shot you if you tell me uts nothing.....ugh i need hoh, Deaf and deafblind friends for real -.- the reason i said deafblind because im hoh and legally blind

I don’t have any specific stories.. it’s more that since I also grew up oral and speaking my family and my friends will not only forget I am very hard of hearing they don’t really believe me. They think that since I still have a little hearing in my right ear that I can get along just fine and I’m exaggerating when I ask for them to face me when they speak or when I ask them to learn basic words in asl and will get angry with me when I ask them to repeat themselves a million times because I can read lips and here a little of what they’re saying but it is NOT always perfect.

Does it feels weird using sign language now when you are used to talk? I was a little surprised by that since I'm used to listen to you rather than reading the subtitles. I'm a bit worried that I will miss if you pick your nose.

Yep it sure happens to me too! My own brothers covered their mouths on purpose when my dad was in the hospital! Just to be jerks & they did it on purpose! Then my dad, who’s deaf for past 25 years still won’t facetime correctly! All I see is his nose and forehead! I just give up and hand it to my hearing hubby!! So frustrating

Is the hearing culture that asserts itself and makes everyone forget how to behave around hard of hearing and Deaf, again and again? Because I have to tell the same people time and time again to face me when they're talking. To keep their hands away from their faces/not covering their mouths. To keep a clear sight line between us and not hide behind stuff. To not shout from behind a corner or from another room. To come get me instead of shouting. To wave in my field of vision or tap my shoulder to get my attention instead of talking to me across the room - especially if I'm focused on my phone or reading.

Some people are jackasses & do that shit intentionally. For others, it’s easy to slip a person’s mind, especially when a hearing person isn’t always around a person with hearing issues.

I really don't get how anyone could forget a person is deaf. Especially if they're a family member or friend. It's pretty ridiculous to me
