- Lots of “food for thought” to digest in this 4 minute video! The concept of “audism” is an emotionally charged hot topic, so let’s work together infuse kindness, empathy, and understanding into our worlds 🤍🙏

an important reminder, thank you!
My parents are hearing, my mother sent me to a residential school for the Deaf and Blind. She prepared me for what is to come, I had mild hearing loss. Wasn't successful in public school. My hearing loss has worsened, I'm so grateful for her sacrifice of sending me away. I have the tools for what's to come. I wouldn't be who I am today had she not sent me to get the education I deserved.
Great video with a wonderful message! I think ASL is a beautiful language.
I think so too! Thank you
Beautiful video.
Very well said.
Hello. I'm a CODA. I'm in college now to learn ASL. My parents know some ASL. I was taught Signed English. I rely on mouth movement and I find myself reading lips, I feel like this is a bad habit because not all Deaf signers mouth the words as they sign. Do you have any advice or suggestions?
It’s wonderful to read your enthusiasm for improvement! “Mouth morphemes” are an essential part of ASL grammar. And yes, many Deaf people tend to take it a step further and incorporate lipreading into their signing…. It’s not necessarily a bad habit.
Consider watching shows such as the Daily Moth - news anchors in ASL. The anchors there tend to sign in the way you expressed wanting improvements on.
I have an ever growing list of ASL content on my website called “Community Resources”. The Daily Moth, among others, is linked there:
