You just gave me a flashback to the olden days. As a know it all teen and a Chilton repair book from the library, [ BEFORE THE INTERNET], I changed my ram charger transfer case in my parents driveway , in middle of a Maine WINTER night, by myself, after I killed it having fun. Luckily it was a tared driveway and VIP Auto , let me use a transmission jack, All proud of my brilliance, I jumped in and it still didn't work. THEN,,, I looked up "transfer case won't work" and found out, It as just a bent linkage. Lesson learned. Never assume the worst first. DUH. My friends and I beat the heck out of that $900 lifted rust bucket. Once, WITH ONLY THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT AND NO CELL PHONES a bunch of us set out onto the highway and drove 200 miles to work snow removal in the next state. About half way there , in a blizzard, e had stopped at a truck stop, and when I kicked the the giant snow chunk off one of the the back fenders, about half the fender, and fifty pounds of bondo, fell right off in the parking lot. LOL. Unphased, we just hauled butt out of there. lol. Another life lesson i learned with that truck was, giant tube push bar bumpers are a must, and to never drive it around a corner fast after without a steering stabilizer, to save $30. LOL. I Went up on this poor guys front lawn and it as like the perfect ramp, onto and over his brand new little pickup. It was like in a movie. Scared as hell , I just kept going and parked down the road and ran away. BUT, I turned myself in the next morning with my smashed face. In court the judge as not impressed at all . I explained the , not putting on a new steering stabilizer, thing and I'll never forget him saying,"what part of steering stabilizer , did you not understand" . Of course others there ere laughing at my stupidity, and all a said was," I have good insurance" . Swear to god, this judge only gave me a $90 fine. WTH . This poor guys brand new truck was totaled and my old crappy truck, got a flat tire, bent rim, and shock, and windshield from my head, and the exhaust came apart in front of the muffler . I couldn't have been going more than 20 MPH, but sounded like a stock care fleeing the scene of the crime. YES, I smartened my butt up after that eye opener. That thing was a great first car for a kid. Thanks dad. Both were the greatest. LOL, I SOLD IT AS IS FOR THE SAME $900 2 YEARS LATER. Then about ten years after that, a man tracked me down on the phone, looking for the title cause he "fixed it up". LOVE THE SHOW GUYS. Thanks for the flashback.
Hi Paul, Couple of trans women here, and big fans of your channel. To answer your question, Calling a transmission a "tranny" is, has always been, and will continue to be an acceptable shortened version of the word. We don't think we would ever see you intentionally disrespecting another human being anyhow; there's a lot of respect here for you, your craft, and your skill as an off roader.
The way Paul reacts to bad news is awesome. Bunch of hours down the drain and takes it on the chin and used the anger to rebuild his trans. Could scream and shout but instead powers through and fixes the problem. By far my favorite automotive UA-cam channel
Thanks Michelle for the orange crew shirt! My husband got lots of comments and compliments on it when he wore it to work a couple weeks ago. He loves having the shirts with the pockets for his readers!
I just wanted to say that it’s been great to have followed the journey of a real, loving family that has pulled together to make a successful business. And I know Mrs. Cox has taken some slack over the years, but she’s a truly beautiful lady that probably has kept the sanity throughout it all. God first, family, second, and business later.. that is success
That transfer case looked fun to pull, but not as fun as pulling and installing one by yourself while laying in gravel with the truck on ramps. Count your blessings yall have 3 strong guys and a lift.
I had to do just that with an automatic transmission for my Ford maverick. I was lying in the dirt and had to pull the tranny up on my chest then bench press it into place by myself. Been there done that got the tee shirt!!
@@rossmeldrum3346 I had to do that 2 wks ago when I had to drop my front dif to drop my pan to change my oil pick up o-ring out on my 11 silverado. I liked this one. That's kind of how life is sometimes. You fix something, do a lot of work, and it's not really fixed right. So you fix other stuff and eventually everything is good. I really hope you don't have to even think about the transmission in that truck for years to come.
I like to think that when Paul is driving that truck, solo, his dad is sitting shotgun and being so proud! If that's not realistic, I hope they have UA-cam in heaven 😇
I have rebuilt a few transmissions, and when I rebuilt the one for my T Bucket, I installed the sprague clutch backwards. I just gave up and took it to the transmission shop. They are the ones that told me what I did wrong.
i have to share this as this was a problem for my father as well. In his Chilton manual for our old Vw bug we had for a moment. in the section where it handled "transmission issues" it stated in ink pen " Bad Karma await ye foolish enough to toy with me". from that point on he paid for the "pro's" to work on em..lesson learned i guess. I have only done a transmission once on my 1996 s-10 bad filter, i did not offend the transmission gods somehow lol
