For anybody interested, this paid review allowed me to buy Christmas presents for my children. I did not try to 'sell' this as bonsai video. I do find these earbuds great whilst I do my bosai. Thank you for those who understood this was not a big 'sell' out :)
I watched and enjoyed it for what it was. UA-cam might be free for most people to watch, but as content creator it’s not free and it’s not unreasonable to want to recover some of that cost - for camera or audio equipment, editing tools, licences for music and video clips, and the sheer time spent putting videos together. That’s not “selling out”, it’s just trying to cover overheads and not be “out of pocket”. 👍
Thanks for doing what you do. If making a product video helps you cover Christmas or pay your bills please keep the ads coming. I love your content and want you to be successful doing it.
If you can get away with it, try to plug these paid plugs into just part of another video rather than making it the entire video, because it can muck up the algorithms if something off-topic for your channel leads to a sudden drop in click-through rate and watch duration. UA-cam gets all stingy with their impressions because they think that you suddenly lost your audience's attention and then the views on your next few videos can suffer. If you put the endorsement or review into minutes 2 through 4 or something like that, people that refuse to sit through non-bonsai content can just skip ahead and the UA-cam maths work out a little better. The effect is probably not quite as severe if the sponsored content is fully aligned with your subject, like, say, a review of bonsai tools. For whatever that's worth. Nice landing page, by the way.
@@DrunkBonsai I get all that but this was a paid stand alone ad deal. A review of... Interesting opportunity and it did pay for some presents. It had an adverse affect on my channel and truthfully I don't get the negativity that came from people who made a point of disliking the video. Small minded people who struggle to see beyond their own navals :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat If they only pay for a standalone video, then you gotta do what you gotta do. My comment was not to judge, of course, I was just passing along some of what I've heard (and to a lesser extent, experienced) regarding the way the algorithm works. I don't get the negative responses either. It's very easy to just look at the thumbnail and say "not gonna watch this time" if you don't like it, ya? IMHO, if someone is willing to pay for your review of their wares, and there's nothing unethical about their product, that's a win-win.
Good review Xavier. I appreciate as a creator that these opportunities of sponsorship will land on your desk and completely understand why you've done it. I feel like you've made a real effort to keep this video in keeping with your usual style and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great video as always
Nice Review Xavier 😊Congratulations on your first sponsorship on your channel! I love to see people doing well! I already have some earbuds but otherwise you convinced me!
Look at you. The pitchman for Raycon! If I didn’t already wear hearing aids (which incidentally allow calls and streaming as well), I would race out and snatch up a pair. Nice job with the review. Very comprehensive.
Appreciate that you gave prior notice of this. Most utubers I follow for free have in video paid sponsorship, no reason why you should be any different. I like that you've kept the "house style".
I knew there would be a risk in doing a sponsership but the product appealed to me and is now something I am using whilst doing my trees. It was a one off deal :)
Slick deal, brother! Happy to see a great guy getting a review and keep opportunity like this! And pure honesty in the review as well. I’m diggin it good sir
Hi Xavier you found a new good on ya for doing this mate why not if product makers come to you great, I have had rechargable earbud for years, most I have used and tried do not have the amount of sound specs as these you have in your lugholes, you never no a few more companies may get in touch to try their products, you may have a new revenue stream why not. All the best my friend stay warm with my jacket on. Glad to see the back of the terrible weather.
I'll always watch a bonsai retreat video, but one comment i would make (and in a different life ive been sent products to o test) I'd do a short add read or two somewhere in an existing video, rather than a whole video on the product. Only exception would be if you're reviewing a pure bonsai product so whole video is relevant. Keep up the amazing work!
I accepted this one because it was an appealing item to use whilst spending time on my bonsai. I didn't try to make this a 'bonsai' content video - it is definitely a stand alone one off :)
Hi Xavier, I would probably have loved those, in times as a fieldworker. 🤩 Thank God, I‘m back as nurse and my mobile is rarely needed… ☺️ Suddenly - I saw the purple ones and will think about it 😄😘
OMG Xavier! I think you've found a new calling!!! You are a born natural salesman. Well timed opportunity to help fund the Christmas season. Bravo on your excursion into marketing:)
Xavier the blue jacket/sweater with the suede shoulder patches is very smart. I'm outside the UK. What is this jacket called? I need one of these for myself.
I noticed that when you were using the earbud microphones, the sound in my air bud Maxes was only in the left one.for the rest of the video, sound came through both air bud Maxes. 😢 So that would be a big detriment.
That is confusing. The earbuds were perfect so i am not sure what sound issues you are having with the video - it was edited with DaVinci resolve and had no input ftom what i was hearing through my earbuds?
I agree totally. Nothing phone or internet related is on when I am upstairs. It scares me enough having the wifi router beaming wigglies thorugh the house :)
ummmmmm! I know it pays to do it but its something (and not just in your videos) that has always bugged me. When I click on a video I want to watch it for a specific reason. I don't want to hear people telling me this product is great for my beard. that polish is excellent for my shoes etc. At the end of the day only you know which side your bread is buttered and good on you for that. That be said I HAVE watched 99% of your output to date.
That is why i didnt try to sell it as a bonsai video - so people who didnt want to watch a review could decide not to. Ultimately I am unemployed and this offer came to me out of the blue. The product looked a good option and the review is intended for people who are interested in this...not bonsai. Thank you for watching the video Andrew :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreatOf course Xavier, completely your call and no reason for you not to cash in on your growing and well-deserved popularity. As one of the old, possibly original set of subscribers, it just felt a bit out of place in a bonsai channel. Good luck to you and as always, I look forward to the bonsai videos.
Not criticism and can understand to why you would do this but ear buds mmmmm not sure at all if Bonsai related but it’s not sorry buddy but sets the wrong message to your subscribers
Paul - if I had told people this was a bonsai video i could understand but I didnt. I ws overjoyed at having the opportunity to do something competely different and get paid to do it. I didn't try to deceive anybody that this was bonsai related. If I did do that then I would agree it sends the wrong message. If I had a job I would probably have said no...but i do have bills to pay as well. Thanks for your support :)
Paul, is it fair for you to assume that Xavier will keep making videos for your entertainment, for free? Seems like a very strange comment to put on here. I believe this is the first ever paid sponsorship video from Xavier
If I started advertising on allmy bonsai videos then I might understand your concern BUT this was a one of offer for a 'non' bonsai related review. I don't have a job and it is nice knowing i can buy something special for my kids as they support me so wonderfully through the year. i appreciate the support you have given to my channel whilst you have watched. God bless :)
Thanks Alex - if I had tried to deceive people it was bonsai related ad then I would understand this staance but honestly I find the reaction of a few people a little extreme :)

Well done you for getting the attention of sponsors now mate, I’m liking the fact you are incorporating the bonsai content too, smooth.
Cheers Darren - they are actually quite useful :)

Hey Xav,
what type of bonsai podcast are you listen to? I tried to find one for ages 🤔 and I don´t mind an ad from time to time. Get your paper mate
💸
I like listening to stuff from Ryan Neil of Bonsai Mirai. It is such a difference not having to worry about traditional headphones with cords.
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Thanks a lot. Will definitely check it out

That means a lot ot me after all the negativity I received for me doing this 'one off' fun ad. People can be very funny about stuff sometimes??
Great review xav ignore the haters if a review of a few products gets me more bonsai retreat I'll watch one a week
You are a glutton for punishment Steve
Xavier the blue jacket/sweater with the suede shoulder patches is very smart. I'm outside the UK. What is this jacket called? I need one of these for myself.
It is by Kangol. My sister bought it for my dad a good 10 years ago. It is pretty hardy and very warm :)
😂 great landscape - the few days of snow we got for this winter 🎉
All gone now :)

Ya, only my my left speaker. Thought I did something wrong but nah, it's the way the video is.
That is confusing. The earbuds were perfect so i am not sure what sound issues you are having with the video - it was edited with DaVinci resolve and had no input ftom what i was hearing through my earbuds?
Video sound seemed fine for me and as I said above - the earbud sound was not part of the video feed. thatw as all through my usual external mic
Listening to Jelles videos?
Bingo :)
Oh funny, I thought this was about the break dancer in the Olympics from Australia, I believe Raygun.
Now that would have been a funny skit to try with these earbuds :)
It didn't kill me to watch this and I'm glad you're getting paid!
Thanks for the support - it was nice to get an offer that made sense for me
