We know you’ve been waiting for this one!
We’ve got two incredible Ferrari hybrid supercars going head-to-head over the quarter-mile! The question is, can the newer 296 GTB beat the almighty tri-motor SF90? Well, let’s take a closer look.
Starting with the 296 GTB, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 coupled with an electric motor. These drive the rear wheels and combine to produce 830hp and 740Nm of torque. It still remains pretty light, tipping the scales at 1,470kg.
Then we have the SF90. It comes equipped with a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with three electric motors - two at the front and one at the back. Combined, they produce an eye-watering 1,000hp and 800Nm, pushing this power through all four wheels. It’s a bit heavier than the 296 GTB, though, at 1,570kg.
So how will this play out? The SF90 may have more power, but the 296 is lighter! Will the weight difference prove to be decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

I wonder if yianni is short shifting in SF90 but 296 is impressive 100-200 kph in 4.2 sec is insane same as 765LT
Thats why 296 is pulling in rolling races
But early start SF90 is bit quicker
And probably would be more fun at normal speeds as well cause it's rwd rather than awd

Looks like a step in the wrong direction to me tbh. The f8 tributo and the 488 style looks miles better to me, the 458 design language family of cars is peak Ferrari to me. This is too boxy and squarish, also looks too generic, without the Ferrari badge it could be any run of the mill supercar

The engine in the 296 is a masterpiece. 120’ V6 with the turbo chargers in the v like the old F1 cars of the eighties is a work of art Bellissimo 👌🇮🇹
That V6 and the Nettuno from MC20 are best V6 engines 👌

SF90 isn't a traditional awd car, its ICE only powers the rear wheels and at above 130mph it's a rwd car like the 296. The 2 front motors are there for traction at the lower speeds. In two later videos, SF90 completely beat the 296 even in the rolling races.
Now this is what I call an awesome drag race (The battle of the 2 latest Ferrari Hybrids). Wow, thank you to whoever got this one planned. Just need the LaFerrari to make the ultimate trio. Looking forward to watching this one 👍

@@irtiza4262true but the laferrari is rwd so it would have traction issues in a drag race. Also the sf90 makes 1000hp with turbochargers and awd making the launch that much faster. Although it doesnt look or sound as the laferrari it will most likely beat it in a straight line.

Almost 200k less than the SF90 and still manages to beat it in a rolling race. Absolutely insane value!

should have added in the 765LT here.. in other video the 296 and 765 races are also very close.. there are a lot of videos of the sf90 beating the 765 by a lot in the roll races.. but here on car wow.. the 296 beats both the sf90/765 but the 765 seems to be very close to catching the 296 just to the half mile.. the 296 seems to be distancing itself vs the sf90 tho.. hmmm...

I think the most possible explanation for the 296 GTB pulling on the SF90 is that after 130 mph, the 2 front electric motors on the SF90 disengage, so after 130 mph, the SF90 loses a lot of hp and torque, and since the 296 GTB is 100 kg lighter, the 296 GTB will have an advantage.
The GTB actually didn't get destroyed by as much as I thought it would. The 1/2 mile race was particularly surprising.
Never saw Matt and Yianni this serious! Meaning both the cars are beast and if quarter mile is covered in rain in 9.9 sec it would be amazingly interesting to see them on a sunny day track!

We all know the SF90 is going to win, but I wasn't excepted the 296 can be time close, especially in the rolling race. Truly an outstanding car.
Yanni weights 50 kg more than the other guy … smh 😅
I've reviewed both...and it was immediately clear to me that when both cars are rolling, the 296 is just as fast. The weight penalty of the SF90 and the electric motors running out of juice at higher speeds is the reason why the 296 is ever so slightly quicker past 150MPH. The Porsche 918 had the exact same issue.

I like how near the end Matt explains to Yanni the difference of both cars (like he does to us at the beginning). Yanni really doesn't care lol, he just enjoys cars.
Mat is a type of guy that asks for another drag race if he loses but he knows he will lose again but just wants the thrill and joy you get from drag racing.

you should check out the 296 GT3 omfg majestic machinery out of ferrari iv heard some critics like chris harris say its an ugly car i couldnt disagree with anyone on anything more than this, by far my fav ferrari before the 488 and some 00s classics like the enzo nd f50

When I first saw the teasers for the 296, my immediate thought was that they’d finally brought some proper style and elegance back into the range… truly stunning and with the performance and sound to boot! Incredible bit of kit

On a dry circuit the 296 will destroy the Turbo S, it's performance difference on any decent surface is massive against the Turbo S.

The 296GTB is the best Italian supercar in years and it’s actually Italian unlike Lamborghini, whose cars are all Audi/Porsche under the skin. Brands like Ferrari, Pagani etc should be cherished for still having integrity, which is rare these days.

Today I raced a red 296GTB in the streets of Frankfurt and won. I was in my bycicle, the driver didn't know we were racing, but the traffic lights were on my side
Emilia Hartford has a few videos putting an exhaust on a 296 and it sounds so damn good with an exhaust. Even without it it sounds amazing for a 6cyl. I only like the sound of a few v6s and the 296 is now one of them lol. Even tho it’s a super wide v. And the VR motors are super skinny V’s which is ironic. But you gotta love the sound of the old 2.7T out of the B5S4. Sounds so good.

Would you guys stop with this stupid nonsense. The 296 is WAY faster than the Turbo S. 296 has gone 9.7 on 91 octane on a dragstrip. That’s 9.5 on 93 octane. No Turbo S has even run in the 9’s. I own a 296 and also owned a 992 Turbo S. They aren’t even close. The 296 is a much, much faster car. The ridiculous amount of overhype the 992 gets is hilarious. I loved mine for sure, but it’s really not that fast. At least not 296, SF90, 765, or even F8 fast. It’s a level below these cars.

Having tracked and driven a 296 GTB hard, can confirm it’s a very quick and capable car - even on the Michelin PS 4s tyres it had fitted. It’s e-motor/V6 combination is fantastic with awesome power delivery and an amazing sound.
How does it handle the corners?
@@subbot8077 very nicely balanced as you’d expect from a mid engine car. Quick steering but doesn’t provide the best feedback. Pretty easy car to drive quick.
The 911 Turbo S in this would be great to watch

@@speedlife301 Yeah, Car & Driver tested the SF90 at 9.5@148mph and the 911 Turbo S (Lightweight package, -80lbs) at 9.9@139mph.
Without the lightweight package, the Turbo S did 10.1@137mph.
Turbo S is getting trounced all day long by both Ferarri's, the gap between these two Ferrari's and the Turbo S is huge (even if neither Ferrari's put in amazing times in the wet in this video).

When you consider how much less money Ferrari has to work with than say Porsche and Lamborghini as a part of Volkswagen group, it’s absolutely fucking mind blowing that every new car they release is so savagely competent. They are truly one of the most impressive companies in the world
