  • Our 1970 Camaro is about to take its maiden voyage down the 1/4 mile but first we had the NHRA come take a look at the cage to make sure it was safe and would pass their inspection. This is what Ken from NHRA Division 6 had to say! Have you ever wondered what the NHRA looks for when giving a car it’s cage cert and ET limit? Make sure you watch this video!

I never knew they would come to your house and do it I figured they would have a thing that they would do it once a month at a track local to you....nice

I think they mainly do it at the track at different events but our NHRA rep happens to live in the same town as us so we may be a bit spoiled!

If you're willing to pay, they will come to your house. Easier if they aren't scheduled to to be at a track any time soon.

So i have looked throughout the rule book myself about black pipe. Nothing in there, is that black pipe welded seam or dom ? I have some of it laying at my house since i was having a hard time finding any 1-5/8 tubing. The stuff i have has a welded seam...im not sure i should use it or not, also its quite a bit heavier

The only parts of the cage that is black pipe is the door bars because those were added on later from the original cage it looks like. The rest is dom. I think I remember hearing our NHRA guy say that black pipe is okay but I’m not sure if he meant just for the door bars or if he was regarding the whole cage. May be worth a call to your divisions NHRA guy to ask!
