When I started reselling, I decided to focus on natural fabrics in addition to condition and design/construction. I only sell silk, cashmere, linen, wool, cotton, leather and suede. Since I pass on anything synthetic made of polyester, rayon, acrylic, etc...this eliminates a lot of low value brands. My only exception is really unique vintage clothing or high end designers. My average cost of goods is $5 and my average sale per item is $40 so this strategy seems to be working!
Here's the list if you want to copy & paste in your notes for reference in the thrift store: 1. GYMSHARK 2. Nordstrom’s 3. FRAME jeans/denim 4. Champion 5. Splendid 6. WHITE HOUSE BLACK MARKET 7. HUDSON jeans/denim 8. Columbia 9. Lulus 10. Eliza J 11. FABLETICS 12. Aerie 13. Soft Surroundings 14. allbirds 15. FILA 16. PAIGE jeans/denim 17. adidas 18. VICTORIA’S SECRET/PINK 19. SPYDER 20. CALVIN KLEIN
Only cheaper stuff is there but ya it puts more spyder out there. If you find a good spyder jackets it's 200$ in your pocket. Won't find the good spyder at costco
Soft Surroundings has a following of middle age and older women. I sell it all the time. Larger sizes and on eBay. It does sit on Posh, but have sold it there. Feel like its picked up more since the stores are closing too.
Most of those are on my list too. A few others are: 7 For All Mankind, Betabrand, Chicos, Woolrich, and most Free People and Anthropology in smaller sizes
LOFT and Ann Taylor is another brand I'm quitting in 2024. I had already scaled back to NWT but now I'm done picking it up completely. Sorels are also getting a bit oversaturated because of TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Ross and department stores have been discounting them quite a bit. I've gotten some new pairs that I paid around $20 for and haven't been able to move them. I'd take any offer at this point that would keep me from losing money but offers aren't even coming in.
i think someone mentioned to me that spyder is sold at costco now too, which would make sense as to why it doesn't sell as well as it used to! i've stopped picking it up too
I love your videos on brands! I’m still learning, there are millions of brands out there and when I’m thrifting I forget the names, yesterday I got a STAUD dress, never seen the brand before, when I got home and checked comps, it resells for about $100 and retails for $323, I was very happy with that, we’ll see if it sells, what doesn’t sell for me is Small sizes and I have a lot of that! Thank you for these amazing videos, keep them coming!!!
I was surprised that you mentioned Soft Surroundings! One of my favorite stores/catalogs, but truth be told, I tend to purchase their cardigans and duster jackets. Almost never find these online on eBay or Poshmark. One that I definitely avoid is Maurices. Also, women's clothes in the larger sizes do well, but not so much in the XS to S. Love your channel. Thanks for all of your valuable posts!
Lafayette 148 (unless it's a larger size) Torrid.... I use to be able to flip Torrid so fast-but now it just sits or goes for a super low amount. Has to be super unique for me to grab it these days. This one breaks my heart- Lilly Pulitzer. Unless it's Large, XL or XXL- I use to be able to put Lilly up and sell any item within a week. Been sitting on a bunch of it for over 8 months.
I’ve added Vineyard Vines, ATHLETA, Lululemon, The North Face, Nike, Michael KORS, Free People, MadeWell, & Spanx. Of course there are exceptions from every brand but I’m not picking up on everything I see.
100% agree on so many of these brands! Even lululemon unless it's a newer style or well sought out. I shop at bins so I will pick yo because it's super cheap there like you mentioned.

@@LJack-ck8uh I don't agree. Plus size buyers just want clothing to fit right and has nothing to do with conservativism or otherwise. Price is usually not as big an issue as fit.
Hi Rebekah! I love watching your brand advice videos, you give such great helpful information and I can get a ton of info in a reasonable length video. I love your excitement when you score great items too, because I can relate! 😊
Such a great video! I agree with all of the brands you talked about for sure! It’s interesting how certain brands will just decline over time. I need to do this in my Poshmark closet too so thanks for the motivation! ❤
Oh man, I just listed my first Frame cami, lol. Great vid!!! I'm new to reselling, so super helpful, I love that you explain why. New subscriber for sure 👍
I dont sell clothes too much anymore but its insane to see all of these labels coming onto the scene and its affecting businesses that lean towards quality. They cant compete with cheaply made goods. I liked things much better when a few bellwethers were what we would look for. It seems the younger generations have changed the direction of everything and it has mainly caused mass confusion and pollution. Trends are fickle. We have no direction in anything anymore. This is why classics, natural materials and quality construction matter. This is why vintage is so in demand. For instance Boho back in the day was still quality. Now it’s plastic. Plastic belts?? What? Its not cool at all. All new fashion from China does is pollute. We have to stop and return to classic fashion being classy. Fashion is a reflection of who we have become. Look at runway models from the 80’s and 90’s vs today. Today it’s quite creepy.
I've been passing on a lot of these brands too. I checked comps for Eliza J in the store and they were quite low so I haven't picked them up lately. I also agree with Soft Surroundings, although I tend to find them in the smaller sizes (L and below), I hear bigger sizes still sell. It seems smaller sizes of a lot of brands like Talbots, J. Jill, Eileen Fisher, and Boden are much slower than the plus sizes. A lot of Anthropologie is not selling fast for me either.
I don't come across allbirds that much but i feel like I would also be tempted to pick them up- I love allbirds and don't really wear any other brands anymore. I have foot issues and allbirds are soft enough I don't have to wear expensive inserts. I just got a pair of Lululemon shoes from WMTM and the insoles actually feel like bricks in comparison. Allbirds is being sold at ross now and maybe marshalls.
Thank you for these types of videos.. you are providing invaluable information, i find it difficult to keep up with the constant changing trends and how once popular brands so quickly become undesirable. Agree, most of the clothes are so-so polyester, don't sell for much. The shoes have really gone downhill in quality. They are cheaply made. Now they are "New with Defect" and who knows if the lining is going to continue to peel, leading to a Return??? Sorry I bought them now.
The next couple of years a lot of people will quit reselling because of the economy and also new tax laws going into effect. I think it should help bring down the saturation
@rebekahallison I’m a full blooded American man and you are the single best source of information for brands and styles I’ve ever come across for shoes and clothes. You’re awesome!!! Don’t tell the other guys 😂
I only shop at the bins presently. I do sell most of these brands, but I do have to discount them unless it's a real substantial piece. I have a pair of leather Frame jeans and yep they're not moving. 😢

Now they are "New with Defect" and who knows if the lining is going to continue to peel, leading to a Return??? Sorry I bought them now.
Way too many resellers is to blame for brand destruction and youtubers like you are to blame for there being too many resellers.
I don't disagree about the saturation of resellers but I think TJ Maxx/Marshalls are more to blame for certain brands.
Valid
The next couple of years a lot of people will quit reselling because of the economy and also new tax laws going into effect. I think it should help bring down the saturation
@rebekahallison I’m a full blooded American man and you are the single best source of information for brands and styles I’ve ever come across for shoes and clothes. You’re awesome!!! Don’t tell the other guys 😂
I only shop at the bins presently. I do sell most of these brands, but I do have to discount them unless it's a real substantial piece. I have a pair of leather Frame jeans and yep they're not moving. 😢
