An EDM producer by the name Brooks explained it best (not a word for word quote, summarized in my own understanding): “Majority of the presets in there (plugin) are already set in a way to be picked up easily to use. If I can’t make a sound, and someone already took the time to understand and create it, there’s no reason to waste time in my creation process to make it AGAIN from scratch when it’s already there.” You might work hard enough to make that specific sound from scratch, (it takes massive time to learn sound design and why certain approaches and techniques are used…) but admitting the fact that even you can’t make every single sound out there at the skill level you’re at, and using the sounds that WERE CREATED TO BE USED IN THE FIRST PLACE, can alleviate just enough chatter in your head to approach them as tools in your music creation.
I tend to do a mix between using presets, tweaking them, or making something of my own. What works for everyone is different! I think whatever delivers the best possible outcome is what should be used.
unlike using samples, using presets still takes tremendous amounts of skill. just cause the sound is good doesn't mean u can just write up a melody, chord progression or counter melody easily. you still need to havee some knowledge of music theory or some skill in making catchy melodies to make the preset work. I'd say there's no shame in using presets, considering u still need to actually make the music, unlike with samples where the melody and chord progression will already be made for you.
I kind of view synth presets like different timbres of different instruments. I wouldn’t complain about someone else using a Yamaha grand in their track, so no complaints towards someone using an omnisphere patch.
Do you use presets in your songs? 🤔
Use whatever sounds good to ur ears , even if it's a stock preset soundbank of GMSor autogun
Taste is important!

Yes, it takes a good ear to both make a great melody and then pair with the right sound! It's certainly a skill to have.
According to the internet forums, it's a disgrace to use presets. You should make everything from scratch.
Where do you stand with that?

Man , forget about using presets or not ... I am amazed by ur skill to actually recreate those iconic sounds ... Kudos to YOU 💯💯💯🔥
I'm really happy you enjoyed the video!
I have and own more than 50.000 serum presets so I’m all for it.
That's a lot! What are your favorite?
That depends on the genre I’m producing really. EvoSounds and Sam Smyer’s are amazing.
Well, that's what they're made for, no?
Yes! And both taste and a good ear help tremendously.
awesome how you can find this presets
Took some research, but well worth it!
Actually its a genius thing to use a preset to a identical tune
It's certainly a skill to find the sound that presents the melody best!
If it sounds good, it sounds good. Who cares if you used presets lol ?
