I bought a 55 in 1983 52 miles from home drove it through 2 county seat towns no brakes 12' grain head. lol. paid $550. You couldn't make me drive one 5 miles today. But I was sure proud of that machine and obviously still tell the story.
I am a simple man, I see Crazy D post a new video, instant like and watching it. Your videos are so relaxing and I learned a lot about heavy machinery from you Crazy D.
Takes me back a long ways in memory grandparents had over 300 acres that used to run machine just like that back in western Nebraska And a single axle 1948 Ford and a single axle 1978 Ford for wheat trucks Always overloaded. Lol That was my gig to drive the truck back to the Quansett and unload at 12 and 13 years old. Shhhhhhhh
That is a 1967 or newer combine. It has a 303 ci gas engine. Same engine as used in the 95 combine (at a higher speed). Engine was also used in the 4030 gas tractor. It’s known for leaking cylinder liners that leak coolant into the crankcase. It’s caused by lack of coolant changes/flushes/comditioners that lead to corrosion. It’s known amongst Deere folks as “303 disease”.
My family used the heck out of john deere 45 combines then the barn burnt and they replaced them with a super clean barn kept john deere 55 with cab. Another super nice combine. Loved those machines.
Excellent video also combine sell quick plus cab be helpful for dust conditions to put on if find to put too! Yes remember those combine John Deere put and last long time my one neighbor has Desiel fuel motor plus cab on his too!
Good video. Still a nice looking combine. John Deere made the 55 for a lot of years. That looks like a square back so would be one of the later ones. Deere also used several engines in them. The later ones used Deere engines, but as far as I know none of them were used in a tractor. Some say the 303 could be fitted in a 4010, but would require extensive modifications.
We ran a 45 open station went to a 55EB/cab. 55 was so much nicer to run and it was a good mudder. One year it was so wet up here we had to put duals on the back and front so it would float. Looked funny but worked great. The 45 had the Herc engine.
Craz... there's your market!! An affordable SP combine old but still useable Perfect for the weekend side gig guy with 50-60 acres or so. $2500 is a bargain!! and BTW if you come across a good AC 72or 90 of a IH 80 or 82 pull type don't don't walk by it without giving it a good look.
My guess would be probably about I'm about $2.50 a mile cuz you're going to need a little boy truck to haul that down the highway and a little bit of extra cost cuz I'm going to have to pull the header off for the truck driver
Great old 55 looks very original and well maintained. Great video! Keep it going!

The 55 is nice, would look real good if it had a prairie yellow and green umbrella
Dave you have a 55 Hi/Lo from the late 50's. The engine is a John Deere HA-217 power unit. They were built for combines, windrowers and the like.
My dad's first new combine was a 55. He traded in a 45. I think is was 1967. Thanks for the video!
Great find for the right person. I know nothing of Combines but it sounds like a really great deal. It should sell fast.

You are correct on engine. The 45 may have had the Hercules engine.

Great combine
Man I love those old Combines I'm thinking on an International- love there look but that Deere does look cool I just want one 😆
Eat the dust on an open station. Remember my uncle had an open station IH in the early 70's...dust-a-fly'n..but he had a mask.

Good old combines
At that price and in the condition it's in you should move it very fast. Like you said it's perfect for the small farms.
Definitely a collector. Good find. Doubt one can find one setting out in better condition.
ACA en Paraguay ...aún tengo la mia ... igualita a "esa" ... Plataforma 12' ... la uso para CORTES DE BORDES ... areas pequeñas ...
That was the Frist’s one I drove to learn to use
Looks and sounds good
GREEN IS GOOD 🤠🤠🤠
Hey Crazy D, my father in law has 3 JD 55 corn specials in his shed ! Maybe he would sell them to you ! We live in SW Mn !
Awesome, but is parts readily available. I cant help but wonder about that.
awesome.
Makes me want to go out and buy 80 acres. This one isn’t going to sit on the lot very long.
Most 55' s had a 217 john deere engine. The 95's had a 303
the early ones had the Hercules engine
Either a JD 217 or 303 gas engine
Should sell looks good to me.
CRAZY-D UR A HEMAN 😎😎😎
I believe that’s a older one because of the square back the earlier ones were round back
Looks good. It would be great to test it in a field of wheat, but how you gonna do that, right?
👍🏿👍🏿
The motor sounds like a 329 jd .
Do you know about what it will cost to ship that to Indiana??

@@CrazyDEquipment ok I'm going to do some more figuring I'll keep in touch with you thanks
What would is it cost to be trucked to eastern nc
Again you'd have to find a little boy trucker that's probably about 2.50 a mile
@@CrazyDEquipment
The man you said might have a corn head what would he want for it ??
Not the same engine as a 1010. Either a JD 217 or 303 gas engine
Thank you for the information I was told that like I said in the video I wasn't for sure
You have a flex head with or a corn head
How hard would these be to find these heads and a small combine with i would need all those
Flex head
Corn head
Pickup head
Rigid head
