Thank you for this. My car battery died and it's parked on the road, so I seen many other videos that said how to get hood unstuck but all thr videos said the car needed to be jacked up, I'm parked on the road and on a slight hill, so couldn't do that, then I searched up how to do it with a screwdriver, and your video was the most informative.
Very Nice! Battery dead and keys locked up inside my 05 expedition. needed to put jumper on battery so i could use locksmith tools to hit my the electronic door unlock button. I couldn't ever get a screwdriver to work but I slid the bottom of my grill out and was able to reach in and pop it by hand since i knew just what i was looking for. Much appreciated sir!! :)
Thanks a bunch for doing a video on this. I know it takes time, and I appreciate it. Worked for me. I was scratching my head until my head remembered UA-cam.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was able to get my hood open thanks to you. I have a 96 Ford F-250 and my latch is completely enclosed in a metal casing. If you look at the cable in your video (at 1:19) you’ll see that there’s a rubber grommet where the cable attaches to the latch. I pushed on the grommet until it popped out of its retaining slot, then I was able to grab the cable with needle-nose pliers and pop the lock. Hope this helps folks in a similar situation.
Took me 30 minutes to manipulate the plastic shroud over the release mechanism. 30 seconds to disengage it. I actually used the factory jack handle & a pair of needle nose to do it, straight thought the grill. (No damage done.) After cleaning & greasing the mechanism, I used the blunt screw end of the jack handle to reinstall the pin on the shroud (also, through the grill). Thanks a million for this video; it worked, perfectly. Hope my trick helps if anyone doesn't have a lot of tools on hand.
Locked out of Ford Expedition 2007 dead battery and ignition key wouldnt open door. Tryed charging through the hitch wires, unlocking with clothes hanger, nothing. Thanks to this video popped the hood in 10 secs with screw driver, charged my battery and crisis averted. Thank you. Ford Expedition basically an F150 without a truck bed.
For %150 trucks with the "honeycomb" grill, you can approach the latching mechanism from the left, rather than the right as shown in the video. The pop tab AJ refers to in the video can be depressed using a thin piece of stiff wire rod. Thank you AJ!
Since arriving from Arizona to the much wetter area of Washington, I've had nothing but trouble with my 84' Caddy. Going to try and resolve other issues, couldn't open the hood but with this video, I think I can do it myself. Thanks!
*Here is a solution that worked on my 2001 Ford Explorer Scout,* when NONE of the recommended approaches would work. For some reason, my particular car seemed to be a bit different from all the other Ford Explorers. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo bottom up approach video worked on my explorer. The main problem was accessing the vehicle from the bottom up. There was no apparent access path. There is, however, ever one approach that works, which is located just right of your license plate. You have just enough room to stick your arm up it. You just have to push a tiny plunger that is connected to your cable wire. It was extremely easy to move, once you manage to put a flat screwdriver with an extra long shaft in the correct position.
AJ .. I just became aware of the hood release cable being broken on my F150 when I went to check the oil and clean up the battery terminals. I tried fishing around with a piece of flat steel in the same approximate location as you, but just couldn't find the sweet spot. Thank you Sir! Now if I can find a video on how to fix the cable end without having to fish a new one I'll be in good shape! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for making this video. I've had a dead battery that I can't jump for months now because I didn't think I would be able to find out how to do this on the internet. I can't believe it. Thanks for showing me how to do this. Here goes nothing. I'm about to head outside and try this. I''ll let you know how it goes.
Well I hope everything worked out for you, and you were able to jump your dead battery. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.
Thanks for this. My truck's battery is dead. The door cylinder has never worked so the remote doesn't work right now. The passenger side doesn't have a door lock cylinder. Life saver!
Why on earth are there 235 dislikes haha. What can possibly be unlikable on a video about how to help people who cant get their hood open. What a weird thing to dislike hahaha
i know a guy who owns a ford everest here in Manila and got his batteries stolen with this same technique. its good stuff to know but it depends who watches it and what they think of doing with it. felt bad for the owner.
Thank you so much for how to pop the hood latch open for me to reconnect the cable back into it’s place. I did this for my roommate that’s a female. The mechanic would’ve charged her an arm or a leg for a simple repair. Thanks again
Thanks for your video. Went out to roll up my windows last night and apparently left the keys in the ignition in the "ON" position of my 2002 Ford Explorer. Woke up this morning to find my doors locked and my electronic keyless entry wouldn't work. I never bothered to get an extra key made since I didn't see a need for it with electronic keyless entry. But since the battery apparently drained down, and I'm not able to get into the locked truck to pull the hood latch to open the hood and charge up the battery, I was thinking I had to call AAA for help. Nope. Your video got got the hood opened so I could jump the battery with the wife's car, and WaLa! The electronic keyless entry worked again. Today at lunch---I'm getting an extra key made. :)
Oh man that is pretty crazy set of events. LOL. I am glad my video helped you out and you were able to get back in your vehicle. I am the same as you though I only have my 1 key for my old 99 Explorer. I probably need to get an extra key made today as well. Anyway, hey thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.
Thanks so much. I been hunting down for a hood release cable and they sold out in stores I had to order one. So now I'm gonna go try this. My car won't start up neither i have to use a screw driver for that. Until I get a new ignition switch and cylinder replaced. So I need to get in the hood to start the car

How have to learn the Hood latch mechanism before to operate this procedure...anyhow this is great help, only few videos I have seen opening from the car grills, the key is to find the cable line and try to find the end of it then fit the screwdriver end in between the latch mechanism and pull sideward the handle opposite from the cable line direction, thanks a lot!.

More of that, when I put the lock in closed position with the hood open (I wanted to see how all that works) I could not open it back. I tried to pool w/cable how we normally open the hood (I should remark here that there is no problem w/cable or lock and I just wanted to see if I can open the hood if the cable is malfunctioning) and discovered here that the cable was not under any tension. When I closed the hood everything started to work again. So somehow the loop from the hood is needed to bring the lock in operation. So my question is: @1:45 if you close that lock with your hands (pry bar or smth), can you open that lock w/open hood or not? I mean the hood is open and you close the latch (lock) and then open again.
If just the latch release handle is broken, then you should be able to get the cable with a small pair of pliers and pull carefully. It doesn't take a lot to do it. I've had the handle break on a Ford Taurus and used pliers to get in
Good video. Unfortunately the setup in the Ford explorer that I'm dealing with is different. I cannot even see the cable through that grill and some type of metal bracket that is not in yours
I thank you for showing us how to open up that hood. My hood on my 1999 Ford Explorer won't open using the latch inside, and I have to find out if the cable is broke or the latch under the hood is not working and need to be lubed. I am checking the hood latch under the hood first and if that isn't the problem I will check for a broken cable.
Hey AJ, I have a Ford Windstar from the same year but it looks like the cable and all are hidden elsewhere. I'm able to pop my front grill off but I'm not seeing any moving parts to engage.
Thank you I have a truck 2003 f150 xl and the cable broke and the hood won’t latch, so it stays down when I try to drive, trying to figure out how to get the hood to stay down, so with this method if I get locked out I can hopefully be able to open it, how long app is that screwdriver so I can make sure I have one?
this is one of those things that i was sure could only happen to me. not sure what the issue actually is, but my cable on the interior is dangling, with a ton of slack. can't imagine that the cable is broken (hood has not been opened too many times), but i suppose it's possible. thanks for the tip!!!
Would that work on my 2000 Lincoln town car? Have to replace hood be because it got smashed by an asshat in parking lot that smashed and dashed me while in a store
For all the people saying he's helped your local car thieves. Pretty sure they already knew how to get into your rig, and if they didn't they probably don't care to do anything more than use pure brute force like a prybar or smashing a window.
Doing this on a 2002 explorer is not so easy. They put a plastic cover in front you need to destroy almost to get at lower latch lever. Thank you for showing how too!!! Now going to destroy cover open hood charge battery, etc...
If you just need to charge your battery, you might try going underneath and hooking up a charger to the starter b+ and the neg to the engine block. I dont know if that would work to charge your battery, but I cant see why it wouldn't. Well good luck to you on whatever you are trying to get done. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.
I grab a hold of the cable right there in the grill and pop the hood then from there it opens good. Now I'm thinking of just getting rid of the cable all together and simply fix a welding rod into the latch permanently and I may once the cable breaks.
Any idea how to do this on an ‘01 Crown Vic? The latch is a good 8 inches farther from the grill and I can’t access it with a screwdriver like you did.
Opened quickly on my Harley Davidson edition dead battery and no door key only ignition once hood was opened jumped battery door code I was in like Flynn thanks again
I hads a 06 Sentra withh cable hanging like that .I just pulled on cable and thumped on hood . But now have cable hidden underneath the plastic I can't get to it without removing the cover
@@DragonPilot i suppose we could fasten down our batteries or something with a bracket, i think mine is zip tied in right now though so I could make a more permanent fixture and bolt that down in the future to prevent theft but that's pretty high risk and low gain kind of crime so I don't know how much I would have to worry about that

Funny...my '97 Explorer has a protective plate to prevent just this sort of thing. I'm gonna need a grinder wheel.
Rip
you might be able to pull that piece forward and pop it out
@@billaa49 actually it worked! And any battery thief worth their salt can get in there. 😄
