    I have this lens and I love it. Distortion can be a problem if you're in a small room (you will notice that barreling), but besides that, the pictures it delivers are always a really nice surprise when you look at them back at home.

    Out of all the "Fujichrons" this 35mm is by far my favorite, even with its flaws. It's zippy AF, diminutive size and wonderful build quality and IQ just make it such an incredible all-rounder and a lens consistently glued onto my X-Pro3. It may not have the character of the 35mm f1.4 or the flawless optics of the 33mm, but it never fails to exceed expectations whenever I look back and review the images it takes. If you're shooting at wider views, you'll want to use F4 and higher anyways, so sharpness is not so much an issue (unless you're shooting in low light). It's just so versatile and such a joy to use.
    This is really a must-have for any Fuji shooter!

    I have this lens for my X-Pro1 and it's fantastic. One of the best lenses I own.
    RE lens hood, you can buy a Haoge LH-X35 square metal hood which fits to the bayonet mount rather than screwing on and looks much better too!

    I'm not quite yet a photographer but I feel the pull to dive into this wonderful world of photography, and you are quite frankly the only place on UA-cam with a formula that explains complex lens systems in layman terms, which is something that takes knowledge and a deft touch. I am learning quite a lot from you and wanted to give my thanks for your efforts and know that it is appreciated. I for one know that it'll help me make an informed purchase when I decide to make the step forward.

    These f/2 are really nice for traveling if you like to shoot primes. You can put the 16 f/2.8, 35 f/2, and 50 f/2 in your jacket pocket and just take pictures all day long, or use a little fanny pack for your extra lenses. Weather sealing is good and they're just tiny, stealthy, and sharp.

    I have 8 fujinon lenses. 4 zooms snd 4 primes. Recently I noticed, that 35/2 is the most used lens among my "system". It's very light, small and razorsharp from the f2 in the center of the image. AF is fast and acurate. 9 pics from 10 are in focus. I do not care much about edges, because "niftyfiftty" lenses are mainly for portraits, so the picture edges are not important at all. Overoll, I'm very happy with this tiny "egg" lens. Initially, I wanted to buy the older one - 35/1.4. But in the store I compared them both on my XT3 body, and understood that f2 version is my choice. There is 32/1.8 Zeiss Touit lens, but fujinon 35/2 is better. Recently Viltrox ctrated their 33/1.4 lens which seems to be good option. I hope that in the nearest future Sigma will adapt their 30/1.4 Art lense to the X-mount. Anyway, 35/2 fujinon lens is a great "working tool" for the enthusiast photographers like me.

    Side note: people complain about Fuji's larger lenses and bodies. I adopted Fuji not for the compact size, but for the functionality and value for a hybrid video creator and wedding photographer like myself. Not everyone wants the smallest gear possible. On my X-H1 (discontinued in preparation for the X-T4) the 35/2 was too small to feel balanced, and I found myself using the 18-55/4 a lot more.

    There is clearly a bayonet mount for a lens hood on both this and the XC version that is strangely missing (bayonet mounted lens hood that is) from the XF version and not easily found for either version. I much prefer a plastic bayonet mount for lens protection instead of a screw in direct in front front element.

    03:05 to 03:26, i've noticed that the dark tones move from a cool "blue" black (at f2, f2.8) to a warmer or neutral black (at f11). Haven't noticed it on the newer and more precise FJ lenses, like the 33mm f1.4, which is very consistent. Seems that this 35mm f2 rendering changes dark tones as you close down the aparture.

      If you need a small and compact system Fujifilm is definitely not a good system, specially if you need more than just mediocre f2 prime lenses.
      MFT is ideal for that: smaller bodies, similar IQ, world class IBIS, the best weather sealing with Olympus, incredibly small f1.8 primes lenses, or even small f1.4 prime lenses with equivalent DOF of f2.8 (while the Fuji f2 lenses performs rather an equivalent DOF of f3.5). The zoom lenses on MFT are also quite small, while the Fuji 55-200, 50-140 and 100-400 are so big and heavy that they feel unbalanced with ANY Fuji body except the X-H1(a discontinued product). Sure, one could use a vertical grip, but then the "compact system" thing is completely gone.
      The Fujifilm system gathers the disadvantages of both extremes: very small sensors with limited noise control and dynamic range (just like MFT) and, at the same time, offers ridiculously big and heavy lenses, just like the Full Frame systems. In fact, the new X-T4 weighs 607g., while the full frame Sony A7 iii weighs 650g. Do you see a real advantage here?
      The Fujifilm is a mix of compromises: it's not the best at anything, but overall the system feels balanced. Regarding size and weight it does pretty bad though.

The cap won't fit through like on this one so you have to either put the cap on and then screw the hood to store it, (but then you cannot quickly take out the cap to use it) or put the cap over the hood , which makes the lens a bit longer and less "pocketable"

    This rings very true of most Fuji lenses I've owned - i.e. they ask a bit too much money for a lens that presents some notable flaws under closer inspection, which ultimately wrecks any notion of value for money. I suspect they hope that the retro aesthetics will make up for the shortcomings, but I think that's rather a lazy tact. Personally, I'm quite excited to see the forthcoming Tokina/Viltrox primes for X mount - hopefully they'll serve as a swift kick in the pants to Fuji's pricing team.

    Sharpness, sharpness, sharpness.. That`s all I hear about modern lenses, is it sharp? More to a lens than sharpness. A great lens has character and rendering. I use the X-H1 but only have 1 modern Fuji lens, that being the 18-55. The rest of my lenses are all vintage manual focus. Some are as sharp as modern lenses and some are not. But the thing that they all have is character. And bokeh, amazing bokeh like with the Pentacon 50 F1.8 or the Helios 44 series 58mm F2 and, of course, the vintage Pentax lenses. I have one vintage Fuji lens, that being the 35mm F2.8 which I am hoping will arrive soon. Looking forward to putting it on the cam to see what it can do. The old Fuji EBC lenses were excellent and entirely overlooked by most. The new lenses are, for lack of a better term, clinical, sharp and cold. Give me a great vintage lens with character any day.

      I'd prefer the 35mm. Surely its not quite wide enough (sometimes 35mm is too tight on apsc), but it has the weather sealing and very solid build, which is pretty reassuring when used in harsh places like mountain, beach, waterfall, or when shooting under the rain.

      Christopher Frost Photography I rather pick the XF35f2 before the XC... I found that Fuji with all this trend of vintage lenses over charge withe a price that does not correspond with the quality that they Ofer . When I was in Canon a “L” lens was worth the price but in this case ,if I want the 23f2 for example, the price is ok but the quality is too different of the f1.4 or is not as fast as the nicest primes. I am interested in the 10-24f4 but I’m not going to pay that much money for an F4 but they if you want the faster version of this one is the double. This is what don’t like with this system. Olympus,at list gives you the chance with a F1.8 a reasonable price

      The point is: for which purpose?? Every system or brand has it's pros and cons. All of these you mentioned are more than good enough for hobby. You should focus on your needs to find which one is better for you. Fullframes has better IQ and overall specs, but they are larger and expensive and full of plastics materials. Fuji offers slightly worst IQ (due to smaller sensor) but more compact bodies and lenses, also cheaper than FF, and an excelent build quality full of metallic materials as well. Also with this old school feeling with their manual knobs. I personally love that chunky metallic feeling in my hands, it's a real pleasure to use Fuji gear. But if you're fully committed to IQ and don't mind that much about size, weight and "feeling", then I would suggest you to go for a FF.

    • @Alexrocks1253
      @Alexrocks1253 4 роки тому

      @@EduBroncano I've recently been hearing about a Sony sensor dust issue where their cameras don't have good enough ultrasonic cleaners so dust can stick to the sensor easier. Is this true? I've only heard about this when it comes to Sony and Nikon mirrorless.

    • @EduBroncano
      @EduBroncano 4 роки тому

      @@Alexrocks1253 I've heard about that issue with Sony cameras. But there're tons of professional photographers using Sony for landscapes or sports, facing very dusty scenarios. I'm switching from Nikon D3300 + 35mm F1.8 to Sony a6100 + Sigma 30mm F1.4.
    I'd like to do do street photography, portraits and architecture photography, but I also need flippy screen and reliable autofocus to make videos for my UA-cam channels. Canon EF-M has no growing possibilities to full-frame and Nikon Z50 is 150/200€ more expensive, has lower resolution and older sensor, worse autofocus and a flip-down screen that is useless on a tripod. Moreover there's no Sigma 30mm F1.4-alike lens on Z mount, while APS-C lens selection on Sony looks better. I also thought about switching to Fuji, but the X-T200 costs as much as an X-T30 here in Italy, they have less third-party lenses and their good ones are quite expensive. Moreover, as it is with Canon EF-M, there's no full-frame growing future here.
