    Lot of work there , great job glad to see you've not gone the amateur route and powder coated it , by the way just up the road from you is a good place to get your frame blasted and etch primed , for future projects of course , I've been using them for years good people 😉

    Would acid dipping be easier and get rid of any if the rust inside the frame , I was surprised at how thick the frame is , you must if list a fair bit of weight . You going for a bobber look ?

    If it’s any help to anyone, I recently renovated my bike frame and I used a product called POR15 which I painted on with a brush. It left a thick hard finish which I sprayed over with epoxy paint. Great finish and very durable

      @marklengal9990 2 роки тому

    Bit of a show off with that catch, but as always I'm waiting to see what's next. I would have been tempted to get it blasted and primed, but it shows that with a bit of patience and effort you still get good results.

    • @Moonfleet41

      Hi Neil, thanks for your kind words... it's great to hear someone address this issue with some respect. In my view I want to do as much of this project myself as possible, keeping hand skills and manual processes going... of course I could hand it out to a powder coat company, nobody would see it done or enjoy the process with me. Paint was good enough for the factory and it's lasted 20yrs, pretty much intact... I'll be using the finest 2k paint with 2k primer and both layers will be individually baked off inbetween, so I'll be doing more than the factory ever did to get a good finish, and sharing it as free content with the world! Thanks again for your kind words.

      @@Moonfleet41 It seems that some viewers may have missed the part about FREE content... Who in the world feels the need to give complaints and dislikes to FREE CONTENT?? ...Especially when it's "cracking good" as you boys and girls say across the pond. My honest guess for the negativity is skill envy. Five will get you ten that the "dislikers" and negative commenters have never been in close proximation to an actual tool in their (young) lives, yet somehow feel free to criticize everyone and their mother, based solely on seeing some other way to skin a cat and they ASSUME, which makes an ASS out of U and ME.... But mostly U, young, negative whippersnappers!

    Hey brother. So the one thing that I hated on the softail was the Harley welding. Always so bloody chunky, spend ages just tidying it up when I’d got it down to the frame. The secret is not to weaken the construct while making the welds look “pretty”. Easy for me to get carried away. But that frame doesn’t seem so bad in that respect. Lookin’ good man.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 роки тому +1

      Sure thing brother, the welds aren't so bad on this, other than being typically chunky, but what is surprising is the amount of weld splatter that doesn't get cleaned up... but thanks to the thick layer of sludge and oil ll over the frame, it's actually not that rusty at all, just around the joints and welds where water tends to sit and fester... and best of all, no scuffs or damage whatsoever! Have a great weekend and keep safe both of you, D&Px

    I was watching you changing the front head bearing on your goldwing the other day. And I was thinking why didn't there put a grease nipple in the headstock. And now I'm watching this video and can see Harley have fitted a grease nipple. Do know of any other bikes that do this.?? As I think it's a great idea.

  • @MintyGusto

    Just back from bike night and watched this. Frame chop looks like it could be very interesting in terms of how the bike will look, and those weld splatters were pretty bad. Not something I'd ever considered before as I've always just ignored them on my bikes! Enjoy the weekend Del and send our love to you and P. Stay safe and catch you on your next video mate

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks buddy, I think bike owners have become spoilt in the last couple of decades, this bike was built back when there was weld splatter and discrepancies, things weren't perfect, but I kinda like that, it makes them a little more 'real', bike's built by human beings not robots like today! I thought the welds on the '71 Bonnie I had in the 80's were messy (and porous, as evidenced by the beards that would slowly form on every weld where oil passed through the frame). I was actually shocked at the amount of weld spatter on your Harley's frame.
