- You can measure valve spring installed height two ways. The expensive way, and the cheaper way. I'll show you both! You'll get the same results for this critical valvetrain measurement and use some tools you should have in your home shop already.

I just measure off the top of the retainer and then subtract the retainer thickness

I have a stock ls1 with the ls6 cam , who do you know makes dual valve spring for that exact cam profile … I would really appreciated the specs of the spring .
Some great tips there! The straight edge & micrometer method you showed works very well. And great tip on measuring a few times. One question I have for you, never having used the tool you initially showed, have you noticed or found any difference between the measurement it gives vs the second method with the straight edge? Asking for a friend ... lol. Great video!
It’s a good question! 1.900 is the installed height on this spring. I got several measurements right close to that. There aren’t enough options close enough to that to throw off the measurement. 1.800 is the other close measurement for these heads. So even if I’m not completely accurate, I’ll still get close to one or the other installed heights. Narrows down the choices. The measurement is just the confirmation of one or the other. Easy!
