Your coverage destroys regular media!! Nice work yet again! ❤
Thanks, I try my best. They cover bits I'd be horrible at covering, and I do the things that are quirky. :)
Fantastic behind-the-scenes coverage...best of the Tour by far!
Thanks!
Close interactions with these riders is priceless.
Thanks!
No padding out of the video, all a whirlwind tour and info, breath of fresh air against all other UA-camrs who talk and show themselves as a posed to what’s going on, great video
Love the tiny GoPro Sessions still hanging around!
Long live the session!
Amazing video! Great behind the scenes 👍🏻
Thanks!!!
There’s always money in the banana stand *tsk tsk* 😏
Great video of behind the scene. I've been to a couple of stages start, and the general public can't get that close. If you're a guest of a sponsor, you'll get closer or pay a tour company big bucks. I'll volunteer to be your intern at one of these to get a press pass!
Thanks!!!
Dear @Gopro, hope you are paying attention, the Hero Session is still used and very capable. How about a new one? The mini is just not the same.
Agreed, but I presume it's because they have packaging/cooling/battery life issues installing current-gen tech in that small housing.
Said it before and I’ll say it again: love the types of videos
Thanks!!!
GoPro I'm begging you give us an updated Session.
Thanks as always for the glimpse behind the curtain. Outstanding coverage. Did you do a breakdown of which head units each team uses?
Love the family time scenes.
Be well...I'll check out Precision.
I'll be adding the full breakdown into the description above. Just need to pull together all my photos/Excel sheet to confirm everything.
Amazing job on this behind the scenes video! Very interesting that Wahoo is featuring on most of the bikes 🧐
Thanks! I've gotta run the numbers looking at photos I took, but I think either it's a dead split between Garmin/Wahoo, or Garmin has one more team than Wahoo. Either way, it's all just sponsorships at the end of the day.
One of the best behind the scene.
@1:51 Jasper Stuyven casually peeps! did you get to meet any of the riders? Also, I love these BTS TDF vids :)
I meet/know a few of them (or more accurately, they know me and we briefly chat sports tech). I often know more of the 'Head of Performance' folks at teams, since they're keen to talk sports tech bits.
Jesus how good was this …..❤ cracking vid champ
Best coverage I have ever seen
Thanks!
Thank you, i enjoy this may more then the race
Q: Why does a stage officially start only a few kilometers down the road and not at the starting line, in town? Love your behind the scenes videos!
Allows a short warm up and lets people who want to be at the front (early break contenders) to get there, and for those that don't want to be get out of the way! Break formation on some stages can be quite chaotic and the sometimes narrow and highly pedestrianised roads of towns that pay big money for stage starts don't always lend themselves well to this.
those cooling vests rock.
Never noticed the nutrition stickers in race. Nice detail. Do staff or riders recognize you and talk about equipment?
Yeah, it's a super cool thing that teams have been doing a few years, but not too much about it out there. Some more details I did last year on it: www.dcrainmaker.com/2023/07/tour-de-france-tidbits-sticker-tech.html
As for riders/teams, yup, I know many folks across the Peloton, but definitely more on the coaching side, usually the high performance coaches and such. Spent quite a bit of time on Sunday on the TT stage chatting with them here and there.
Really enjoyed this! TY!
Great work
Great job, Ray.
Thanks!!!
Great video, like always.
Do you have a collection for the cooling vests the different teams are using?
Thanks! I haven't started tracking the cooling vest side of things at this point, sorry!
Hi DC Rainmaker, please suggest to garmin that they should create their next multisport watch in a simimilar shape as the richard mille pogi is wearing. I think that would suit most people when running, swimming or cycling.
Like a duck?
@@Dcrainmaker The watch case is not flat but rounded, making it fit better on the wrist and more comfortable to wear.
Really nice video! Felt as if I was there.
Is there a video upcoming where you look at the accuracy of the heart rate sensor of the galaxy watch 7? Your video on the accuracy of the GW 6 was amazing!
Yup! Later today...
@@Dcrainmaker Nice, looking forward to it!
Brilliant video, love the behind the scenes views. When a rider has to swap bikes whilst riding, due to a mechanical for example, I see them remove the bike computer, does this work seamlessly with the replacement bike? I would have thought there would be some kind of pairing required?
Yup, most of the riders have dedicated spare bikes for each of them. Or, if shared, the ANT+ power meter ID is actually written on the stem or such in many cases.
Some of the Red bull bora team ran an element bolt for the final TT (check bob jungels's strava for example).
Any idea why this might be Ray? Weight? New HH not fitting on aerobar mount perhaps?
Interesting. I'll have to poke around. They were a Wahoo team last year, but maybe they're free agents. But good catch, I'll have to look at my TT footage/shots and see what's up there (it was the day after I did this video).
Do the pro's actually use the climb pro screen for example?
The stickers for the nutrition makes perfect sense, since garmin still doesn't have a way to customize the nutrition alerts... not sure about other brands
This is great!
I noticed he was using a base model iPad with a normal case on it to try and detect motors and or magnets but it is impossible for an older lower end model iPad with a normal case to be able to scan for those kinds of things. It just doesnt have the sensors or capability. 4:12 im surprised they arent using real scanners.
The case definitely isn’t a normal case. Much has been written about the special case which has magnometers in it.
Thank you
2:30 ciao Ganna! 👋
Your sunnies are very cool; can you share brand and model? 😊
The Rapha Pro Team, in black frame.
Do they use climbpro during racing?
Many riders have it enabled and use it. If you stand at the top of a climb as the peloton goes by, it's a chorus of beeps/chirps.
Great video!
More event videos!!
A little sneak-peak for Galaxy Watch 7 please. How is the heart rate?
lmao i look at that strip where you're on and i'm trying to figure out if it's nouvelle chicane or tabac or where?
Any insight how it works as to who owns the accounts associated to each rider?
Does the rider own the Garmin/Wahoo account etc and share login details with the team so they can load maps etc, or does the team own it?
How does it work with them then sending it to Strava etc?
Does the rider get to take the account and data with them when they leave?
Would they migrate the data if they moved from a Garmin sponsored team to a Wahoo team?
Why don't you review the Bryton cycling computer? I hear Biniam likes his!
All riders 'like' their sponsor gear (including those poor Shimano-equippped power meter riders). I have reviewed Bryton gear in the past, but ultimately, have found it rather finicky.
@@Dcrainmaker Yes of course that's how I know Biniam likes his.. 😁Your review (if memory serves) was a good while back, things have changed. The are much more Garmin like now......
is it difficult to get an access pass like yours which allows you in the pits?
It requires a bunch of paperwork (e.g. official press card/etc...), many many months prior.
@@Dcrainmaker thanks man! I truly appreciate you for replying to almost all comments! love x
Glad that theres tour de france for women now 💅
Definitely! Already accredited, and looking forward to going (a very short journey for me, since it starts in the Netherlands this year, where I live).
Why are we not talking about that Richard Mill!!!!
Could Lotto paste those stickers even more angled? WTF!
Fascinating piece. But, pls speak a bit more slowly. :)
How do you get access to those areas ?
Requires media accreditation (a full procesS).
I can't believe a pro team is using Bryton computers. Bryton is a terrible company with terrible customer service. I had a Rider 750 which worked fine but the battery failed in less than a year. Bryton replaced it but it took over a month. The second unit battery only lasted about 6 months. They said they would replace it but after I gave the unit bad reviews on Amazon and on UA-cam, I never heard from them again. Will never buy a Bryton product again. Thanks for your excellent videos DCR.
maybe Bryton pay the pro team a lot of money to use them and beside! unlike you, they can get a new unit every race!
Start eating at 20 minutes?
Why Garmin 840 and not 1050?
Lighter, more aero and no learning curve in the middle of the most prestigious race of the year.
The Edge 1040 is actually used quite a bit in the pro peloton, including at the Tour de France. However, the main reason you don't see the Edge 1050 used (yet) is simply that it only came out on June 18th, and that was just a week before the Tour de France started. Riders/teams don't usually change gear in the week or so before. I suspect we'll see it at the Vuelta though.
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks. I thought that somehow they would have received units ahead of the official public release of the 1050.
@@Yxpers Some of the riders probably did, but in general the teams don't like equipment distractions once they hit the Giro. They'll bend to it for big name sponsor stuff (sometimes a new bike), or for some hidden sponsor tech (like new wheels or such), but usually sparingly.
Richard Mille watches are silly money they do look like toy watches
they must have pay Pogi a lot of green for him to wear that watch during a race!
Is that Richard Mille watch Pogi wearing during the race or just a faked shell for sponsorship! because why would they trick out bike with carbon/ti part and but wearing a 50 gram watch that cost 300k which will become a thousand piece if he ever fall!
He has Richard Mille watch but won tissot tt watch after the stage 21. No wonder during the ceremony his face was like ok whatever.
😂
Tissot is sponsor for both men and women tdf and beef given a watch to winner for years! Richard Millie I have no idea how much they pay Pogi to wear it not only ceremony, but during the race which is crazy!
8:17. that guy on PED for sure
