I buy my molasses from the sugar factory here in Barbados. I love it. One teaspoon in hot water taste like coffee and it is good for anemia ( in my personal experience).
I just made these. Wow! Maybe the best cookie I've ever tried to make. I grew up in 'The South'...so there was always a jar of molasses on the table when buttermilk biscuits & melted butter were served. So I LOVE the taste of even a spoon full of just plain, ole molasses! I didn't have any ground ginger but I did have some beautiful candied ginger & I chopped about a half a cup & added to the mix. And I can NEVER have too many warm spices so I added allspice, nutmeg & cloves. I always loved lemon &/or orange sauce over warm gingerbread so I added some fresh (I have loads of citrus in the garden!) blood orange & Eureka lemon zest to the mix. WOW! THANK YOU for all the recipes. Anything I try from you turns out SO good. Cheers
Molasses is a byproduct of the sugar-making process, and it comes from crushed sugar cane or sugar beets. First, manufacturers crush sugar cane or sugar beets to extract the juice. They then boil down the juice to form sugar crystals.
Love molasses! I grew up in Nova Scotia where the molasses jug was always on the table. After a meal a fresh slice of homemade bread topped with Molasses was the Norm... Molasses cookies regardless of time of the year were a staple in the pantry. It is so healthy source of iron, selenium, copper and calcium all good for bone health . 1 Tbsp.Blackstrap molasses contains 20% of the iron you each day. Yes and as stated below good for anemia...( personal experience as well)
Just made these cookies for the second time and they are out of this world! My boyfriend was obsessed, he says they’re his favorite thing I’ve ever made 😍 thanks so much John for this amazing, really quite easy recipe
Canada here. I use Cosby's Molasses. They have many recipes for using molasses. My husband loves carrot sticks sauteed with molasses and butter. So many recipes to use molasses. Yummm Oh btw, love the recipe for soft gingersnaps.
I’m not a very big cookie fan, however I LOVE molasses cookies. I haven’t made them for awhile but this video made me add them to my baking list for this year.
You're obviously not southern. LOL!!! We love a hot biscuit slathered with sweet butter and covered with molasses. Good ol' Blackstrap Molasses! And, yes, we think it's very "tasty". I've been making these cookies for over 30 years. They are our favorite Christmas cookie. In fact, we call them "The Christmas Cookie". I make the cookie dough, roll it into balls, coat it with sugar, and freeze on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. I store the frozen dough balls in Ziploc bags so we can bake a few at a time as we want them. I have six dozen dough balls in the freezer right now that I made three nights ago. They don't last long so I make a double batch each time. They are good anytime, but they are especially good at Christmas. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go take a few out of the freezer right now and bake them for us to have as an afternoon snack with a glass of milk. Try a good hot homemade biscuit with some butter and molasses. You can thank me later.
Whenever I try a new recipe I always will use yours if possible. I had molasses sitting in my pantry and felt inspired to use it today. These cookies truly taste like Christmas and I'm excited to make them again for my family during the holidays
Dates molasses not the one he’s using in this recipe, but if you’re talking about dates molasses with tahini it’s so good, specially the Iraqi dates molasses
Hi John we love these cookies so much. The only thing I always add is some chopped crystallized ginger. Adds to the flavor and chewiness. I love you and your channel. Many thanks for always making me smile. 😊🙋♀️🇨🇦
I am from the south and we made molasses, so I grew up eating them. My Mom would make fresh biscuits and we would poor the molasses over the hot biscuit with butter. Love it. Thanks good recipe.
I saw that too and honestly 'whooped' a little. This guy is so underrated. He's easily got the most user friendly videos. I've made about six of his recipes in the last few weeks because everything is so clearly explained.
I'm so excited to be here when the post is FRESH! I finally got a stand mixed and I made your pastry cream recipe and your Italian meringue. I LOVE your recipes. 🥰
I made these this weekend. Boy, are they delicious. People at work seem to really like them too. Preppy Kitchen is definitely my first stop for baked goods recipes.
I absolutely love the taste of molasses. I can eat it with a spoon. When I was a kid, and still do occasionally, I mixed softened butter with it, and put it on warm biscuits. There’s nothing like it. I like it as well as I like honey.
Guage number is how many scoops in a quart...so a 24 will give 24 scoops from a quart of dough. A 70 will be a smaller scoop....yielding 70 scoops from a quart.
John, i made you carrot cake cupcakes and cream cheese frosting for thanksgiving and they were amazing!! thank you so much for sharing all these delicious recipes
Just watched Binging with Babish where he posted a video where he credited your macaroon recipe. So excited to get a double dose of your recipes today!
Hi John, the other day I made brown sugar! It was incredible! I twirled around, showed off the silky texture to anyone near me...it was all because of you! I’m still amazed.
One of my fav breakfasts was a slice of bread slathered with molasses and put in the oven for a bit. When they come out, you put butter on it and then eat. My molasses cookies are different and people love them.
Archway in the 90s made molasses cookies so good! They were soft, chewy and would stick to the paper. They literally don’t make them the same now they’re coated with sugar and even the soft version is hard relative to the previous version….💔💔💔
I LOVE molasses! I typically only use it when I make baked beans or molasses cookies, but whenever I have it out, I can't resist a small spoonful of straight molasses. I will most definitely try this recipe. Thank you, John.
I see PreppyKitchen I click 😍❤ hands down favourite cooking/baking channel. John is like joy personified in his videos, honestly makes me want to bake everything that he makes 🧡
In the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky, where I come from, we had very many meals with molasses and a little butter with cornbread. This was my grandparents' go-to "dessert."
Molasses is good for you and I like drizzling it on oatmeal. I love molasses cookies and I will have to give yours a try. I have not been disappointed in any of your recipes. Thank you!
I know this is a no chill dough recipe but due to how my dough came out there was no feasible way to form my cookies. I chilled my dough for just over an hour and it was so much easier to work with! The cookies came out great as well! If you have this issue, I suggest taking this extra step.
These are the ABSOLUTE BEST COOKIES IN THE WHOLE UA-cam UNIVERSE 👏 my people are going to lose their 💩. Thank you 🙏🏻 💕 you are always my go to when baking. I will be buying your cookbook happy😊
Hi there John & family! Happy holidays!🎉 Molasses comes from sugar cane. Once it's processed, it turns into sugar. In fact, brown sugar is granular sugar w/ molasses added to it. I'm Panamanian, and down here folks add it to coffee, lemonade (instead of regular sugar). One interesting fact, if one has an opened wound, one smears molasses several times a day & after a few days, voilà, the wound will be cured. The secret? Iron. Molasses is full of iron!
Love the molasses cookies. A hit among family and friends in Quebec. Easy and impressive. I really enjoy your recipes and the clarity of your explanations. And yes, I eat spoonful of molasse occasionally.
I love molasses, my great Pappa and Granny lived through the depression so they used molasses in everything bc it was much cheaper than sugar back them, delicious 😋
When I was a toddler growing up in Texas my grandma would make buttermilk biscuits from scratch every morning and we’d drizzle molasses on them... YUMMMMM!
In case anyone is curious, the cookie scoop number is the number of cookies yielded by one quart of batter using that scoop. Use a #24 to get 2 dozen cookies from a quart of batter. Also, a cookie scoop is ill suited to scooping hard ice cream. You'll break the sweeper if you try.
I LOVE BlackStrap Molasses!!! (I figured out why I love black licorice also because it’s base is made of blackstrap molasses! It’s weird but I hated molasses when I was young. Tastes change as we age. 💕
I buy my molasses from the sugar factory here in Barbados. I love it. One teaspoon in hot water taste like coffee and it is good for anemia ( in my personal experience).
I have anaemia. It has not got better for over 1 year. Thanks for the tips I will try it
@@swagsarang7381 did it help??
Molasses is an excellent source of iron! Vegans sometimes use it for that very reason
I love the taste of molasses, even blackstrap, it’s an old school taste but if you can get past the bitterness it’s a really complex sweetener
Heat your molasses on the stove and add a pinch or two of soda and stir and take off burner.
I have taken 1tbs of blackstrap molasses every morning right from the spoon for the past 11yrs.
Has helped my iron stores tremendously!

Molasses dribbled on a slice of warm-from-the-oven freshly baked whole wheat bread... Yum
Try it in French toast 🤤

In the middle east countries, we eat molasses with tahini, its delicious😋😋
Dates molasses not the one he’s using in this recipe, but if you’re talking about dates molasses with tahini it’s so good, specially the Iraqi dates molasses
They sell here in western Washington state in the vegan restaurants.
I grew up eating molasses on my cornbread in Tennessee, still one of my favorite treats to this day! Molasses is one of my favorite flavors!
We made these and added chopped candied ginger. Soooo yummy!
Ok but can we talk about johns apron?! Adorable!! Love that you’re switching it up for the holidays 🥰
I used to have 2 spoonful of molasses in the morning daily when I was a kid and I love it, it’s great for people low on iron or anemic
Hi John we love these cookies so much. The only thing I always add is some chopped crystallized ginger. Adds to the flavor and chewiness. I love you and your channel. Many thanks for always making me smile. 😊🙋♀️🇨🇦

It's just sugar lol
It’s not honey 🤔
Many health benefits and good for cannabis plants too!
