Awesome - thank you for that! I appreciate that advice - wow - average American bought 68 new items in 2018? and Shein?? Crazy. I guess I read "Consumed" by Aja Barber on your advice? and learned so much about the fashion industry as it intersects with social justice and the environment. I went thrifting because of that. I will keep working to do better and more!
I really have to agree about the haul videos. I guess it’s the gift of being ‘more experienced’. It just kind of sickens me to see people buying so many pieces of clothing at once. I used to feel self conscious about wearing the same thing over and over but now I actually see it as a badge of honor. I have nothing to prove! However I am conscious of the fact that we are all at different stages of life and awareness so I try hard not to be judgmental but just enjoy where I am at myself right now!! I do not find you come off as holier than thou but I do like that you are putting the message out there that less is more!! I find it very freeing!!
Thank you for posting this video around the time of the NA Sale, and reminding us all to shop our closets, save our money, be creative and help out the planet! Hauls and over consumption are not really flattering activities to boast and promote.
thank you for this. i am trying the rule of five too this year. i am not counting second hand things and have probably bought about ten of those. i am on 3 new so quite pleased with myself. i have stopped following a couple of bloggers when it became obvious to me that every post was about new purchases.. every single blog. i really enjoy your posts where you play with your wardrobe and try new combinations. i find those very useful. love the view from your deck by the way.
You are doing really well, Noreen. If I feel too deprived in the next month or so I'll do a troll through the consignment ad vintage shops. I'd love to fond a cool summer sweater top wear with jeans. But I don't really need one so.... :)
I’m late to the party but I’ve been thinking about the rule of 5. What does and doesn’t it include.? Such as, underwear, socks, sleepwear, exercise wear? This might be a good blog or video post.
Hi Robyn, I wrote a blog post back in January about my Rule of Five pledge, and I also did a video in February, my first Rule of Five Update which includes the rules of the challenge. You can find the blog post herehighheelsinthewilderness.com/2024/01/slow-fashion-yearly-review-2023.html and the video here ua-cam.com/video/jmvZag6Tflc/v-deo.html
The Veja sneakers just made everything seem modern and new.
Thanks. They can do a lot to update an old piece, I think.

Shein and Temu are a huge problem. Super fast fashion. I don't think it was me that recommended that book, Nancy. I'm going to look for it.

Thanks so much. I agree being super intentional about shopping is a virtue now. :)

Yes to being creative and trying to save the planet. Overconsumption, as you say, is not a good look. :)

I have actually. Around the middle mostly. So my older dress pants have been altered to fit my new shape. The jackets though are way easier. Ha.
