Well…booo that they didn’t match your beloved translucent set 🫤. I mean, they are some nice colors, but no match. Although, some are closer in mass tone. It really is befuddling & frustrating that the best gelatos set has vanished. I’ll have to take another look at your swatches & think on these. Hope you are well…thanks so much for sharing you thoughts & explorations. Take care Helen 👋💜👋
I would really enjoy a ranking (in your opinion) of all the watercolor crayons you have after you've had a chance to use the Distress Crayons awhile. Like...if you could buy only one of the brands and money was no object, which would it be? Which set do you think delivers the best value for a budget shopper, etc? (because sometimes cheaper sets deliver good value, and sometimes it's best to make do with a smaller set of a high performing top $$ brand), etc. I was checking prices here in the US and the "boring" set 3 (neutrals) is only about half the price of the more colorful sets 😂
If could only have one it would be Neocolor II's because they are lightfast. Next I'd have Tempura Paint sticks because of their white's opacity, and overall ability to dry completely. Then Distress Crayons for great colour choice and still some ability to dry out, then Gelatos for nice colours and easy blending, then KingArt sticks last, because I'm less keen on their bright colour choice. But all are nice in their own way.
Oh thanks so much for doing this video of all these colors. I’m so glad that you made this video after watching the video of supplies you were sending to your sister. I love how versatile they look & how they are used. Enjoy your weekend!🥰
Been looking forward to this comparison video, they really are very helpful. I don’t have any Gelatos but they sound very popular among a lot of mixed media artists ,I don’t understand why FC would stop producing such a popular product, great to know there are other options, thanks 🙏.
"So, I didn't find the perfect alternative for the Faber Castell Translucent Gelatos ...... BUT Goddam it, I tried my very hardest" 😆. You're brilliant Helen. Loved this video and your commitment to finding the perfect art supplies for every occasion! Sending love from sunny Newcastle and wishing you a fabulous weekend x
Thank you for doing this. I love your selections. And your swatch of the FC helps. I'll have to look through my collection of TH Distress Crayons and paint sticks.
It's so disappointing that the Translucent FC are no longer available. I do love the Tim Holtz Distress colors but wish they were lightfast. I know they are primarily marketed for the craft world but those muted shades are hard to pass up. They are just so wonderful.
How did you do this so quickly Helen? I was hoping to see your thoughts before deciding on whether to get these to add to my tempera sticks & king art gel sticks…thanks in advance 😊
@@helencryer You manage to put out these videos, in such a seemingly quick fashion. I know that they take work planning, editing etc. Although I know you’ve been at this a while…I’m still truly impressed 🙌🙃👍 [sorry, maybe I shouldn’t type my incomplete thoughts at 4:30 AM 😬]
Based on my swatches, olive would be closer to Peeled Paint amd persimmon would be close to Shabby Shutters. Poppyseed and thistle would be Hickory Smoke and either Pumice Stone (warm grey) or Victorian Velvet (purpley taupe) and for the dark green I think Rustic Wilderness is the best bet. Rusty Hinge is a nice orangey terracotta, and speckled egg is a pale blue but not as green as creme de menthe. I don’t think any are a perfect match. My biggest grip with them is that the white is not opaque, it’s really useless. Other than that I love the colours and the creaminess.
Ooooh!! These have all been on my Amazon wishlist for a while! Thanks for demoing them for us!!
You're very welcome

I know! Exactly! I wish Caran D'Ache Neocolor II's came in some more muted colours too.
interesting comparison thanks for sharing Helen
Thanks!

Hi Helen, are these like gouache sticks?
I've not tried gouache sticks, sorry.
Set 10 is the most interesting to me. They seem to be quite hard to get and i wish They would be single stock but I can mainly find sets.
Yes, the only open stick ones I could get were really expensive.
