I completely agree with the dust from the media causing flashing. i had the same thing. I also use the shigure media, which does the job, good stuff, and reasonably priced👌🏼

I’ve used 100 kg of original BHM in the top 3 tiers in my Momotaro Bakki shower and a similar media to what you’re using in the bottom tier. It’s decent stuff👍

Just a suggestion and something I’ve seen at Momotaro - if you’re going to put oyster shells in the shower, put them
In the top tier so you can easily check on
Them and remove it top them up easily, Also put a piece of Japanese matting on top of the oyster shells as it evenly spreads the water over the first tray and also stops any unnecessary splashing.👍

Not looking live but a comment on aeration. Non commercial size pumps often do not give any, air flow often on wattage which is ridiculous.
Is there some figure say per hundred gallons?

Ricky may I know if baki shower is your only filtration on that pond? And do you do water change/dripping? Thank you

On this pond the Bakki Shower is an additional filter. Water changing is just by topping up when needed.

I have the bhm and lotus root mini, the pieces of bhm are too big so they have to go in more uniform, unlike the smaller stuff you can throw in and get more of a random effect.

I’ve always heard it’s best to break in 2 before putting in shower randomly!
Does take time though breaking 700-800 pieces, but sits much better in the shower with much less voids!
