The Napoleonic light infantry

- The armies of Napoleon were very differentiated.
When we think about Napoleonic armies, our thoughts are directed towards the line infantry, the core of the French armies, with their blue and white uniforms and the red epaulettes.
However, the Grand Armée was also composed by many regiments of light infantrymen, the "voltigeurs".
How was the light infantryman equipped? What was his role on the battlefield? How did his equipment change during the Napoleonic era?
Dario Pedrazzini talks to us about them in our video.

ERRATA CORRIGE: in the video due to an error of confusion and video editing, an uncorrect explanation of the name "Year 9" for this model of the Charleville rifle. Actually, the name is given to the fact that it was so called because it was modified and adopted in the 9th year after the French Revolution.
Sorry for our mistake.

Bravo Dario!!
Grazie!

vive la France!!!
Complimenti per il video, sintetico e informativo. Volevo chiedere se potete consigliarmi dove è possibile acquistare i costumi d'epoca. Grazie in anticipo!
Is that a charleville? Looks like an 1816 Harpers Ferry US musket based on the Charleville.
Charleville has never been the official name of such a musket. It is called fusil modele 1777, that’s all. When the French have sent weapons to support the American insurgents, it happened that these muskets had been manufactured at Charleville Mezieres, and therefore bared the name Charleville engraved on the flintlock. This is how the Americans found more practical to call it Charleville. But such musket could have well been manufactured in Saint Etienne instead, and in that case, it would not have bared the nickname Charleville. Today, reproduction 1777 muskets are always called Charleville, and this is so much influencing the market that even French gunsmiths are stupidly calling it Charleville.
Tutti i miei complimenti

madonna quante sciocchezze
