- The élite infantry of Hannibal's army was composed by lybophoenician soldiers - called "Afri" by the Romans.
These were the troops who surrounded the Romans on the flanks at the battle of Cannae. A strong indicator of how much Hannibal relied on these soldiers.

Magnifica descrizione sull'armamento cartaginese sempre poco citato e rappresentato.
Ho notato una certa somiglianza dell'elmo con l'elmo francese Adrian mod. 1915.
Chissa' se il noto progettista francese si ispiro' proprio all'elmo trace
solo la parte frontale è simile

The Thracian helmet in the video was available on our website until some time ago. We'll probably have it again available in a few months, but we still don't know if the price would be the same unfortunately.

What is the helmet used here?
It's an Attic-Thracian helmet with a metallic crest, a quite tipycal helmet of the Hellenistic period.
Is this the linothorax or the Spolas?
The armour worn by Gioal is an interpretation of a linothorax.

Ma quindi perchè le loriche in ferro come la lorica hamata ha sostituito il linothorax , quali erano i vantaggi .
La domanda va posta più a monte, ovvero non sappiamo, in realtà, come fosse realizzata una linothorax di preciso - quella del video è una delle numerose ipotesi.
L'armatura ad anelli di ferro ha il vantaggio di essere, intanto, in ferro, nonché facilmente riparabile. Probabilmente altri vantaggi possono essere la facilità di stoccaggio e la generale flessibilità e versatilità dell'armatura.
In più, da aggiungere, per un bel po' armature di questo tipo coesistono tra di loro, più che sostituirsi seccamente l'una con l'altra.

In linea di massima, qualunque armatura del periodo era più resistente a tagli e dardi leggeri, invece che ad affondi decisi, che potevano sfondare una maglia ad anelli così come un'armatura tessile o in cuoio
hey ma quello è evropantiqva!
Grossa fetta da truppe federate, alleate o addirittura mercenarie, solo per questa precisazione vale la pena di mettere il mi piace, questo per il semplice motivo che quasi sempre parlando del esercito cartaginese si parla troppo spesso solo di mercenari.
Ciao consiglio metti sia titoli inglese sia italiano ...così da poter attirare anche chi non parla italiano
