Yeah, a lot of 7/4ish tunes are so obviously "different" to the point that the signature is hard to ignore, for better or worse. Don't get me wrong: I love music altetnating between signatures or just switching back and forth between duple and triple.
Here, it feels more like 7/4 (alternating, 6/8 and 4/4?) best serves *the song,* the additional energy it needed, and "pop" the song and lyrics demanded.
Like, Take Five is a classic, but the focus is the 5/4 clave (whether that was intentional on Desmond's/Brubeck's part, I don't know...but _they did noticed at some point enough to call the tune Take _*_Five)_*
The fact that I don't bother trying to feel the time signature as much makes it feel like Bill had a more holistic approach.

After quite a while of listening to this, I think I can understand the message of this song. It's ok to indulge in dreams and fantasy to escape the harshness of reality sometimes. It may even be healthy at times. Dreams can also help creativity and insight about reality since you are disconnected from it.

bill wurtz is an absolute fucking legend, his videos just ooze creativity and genuine thought provoking ideas out of every frame in them, and im certain his videos will pass the test of time for years to come and inspire generations of artists.

He said in the H3 podcast that the key to creativity is to just not watch anything (youtube, social media, etc.) or else your ideas will become inspired by them and not yourself. That’s why he rarely makes references to outside cultures in his videos, and when does, it feels out of place imo.

There’s something unique about Bill’s music. It’s the fact that there’s no chorus. Most songs have a chorus that the singer returns to when he/she completes a verse. Bill, on the other hand, almost never repeats a streak of more than two measures. When he completes a verse, he sings something similar to the chorus at the beginning but changes it up at least a little.
And also not doing that whole rhyming thing obsessively.
It is a very valuable style, coming more from the heart than the mind. Repeating patterns and clever structure might be exciting, but they merely cause the controller up there to give the heart some leeway. The lesson in the experience is to focus more on the heart, not to increasingly empower the controller.

Bill is an artist who made it through the dark period of becoming a long term adult. If you're there now, I want to tell you, it's wonderful on the other side of that darkness. It's take years sometimes to make it through, but sooner or later you wake up in your new world enough times to understand it in a way you can truly enjoy. Love the percussion in this song, so well done. I’m a musician and can fully appreciate just how complex his arrangements are. This reminds me of Peter Gabriel’s live shows. Having an Afro-world type feel but so clean and open, yet complex and groovy.

Yeah. Bill Wurtz music has come out at a lot of different times. I've changed over the course of many Bill Wurtz songs, but every time there's a new one, it feels just as warm as the last.

This isn’t Owl City, but he’s a great artist as well. Adam is awesome. Actually Bill Wurtz’s music resembles Owl City’s in the fact they’re both have that dreamy vibe.

Seemed so true it's sounded like music
It's an ironic style of music that isn't pretentious in the least, yet very profound in it's sometimes confused or nihilistic theme.
It's also full of talent, despite being so nonchalant, or at least silly. It has tons of creativity and genuinely cool music.
But mostly, it's just relatable. It seems like something a person would make as an independent artist, without a "Kickstarter" or producer.

great comment! sums up a lot of his appeal, however, honestly i struggle to see how his lyrics are silly in the first place, he's just not afraid of balancing seriousness with playfulness, and when combined with the music they always feel so meaningful and feelingful to me. i'd recommend checking out his website, particularly the "reality" and "questions" pages. sheds so much insight into who he is
