My mum dad met Sydney (Petersham town hall dance night very last song) I heard & bought song on my Birthday as loved it - always remember bring record home, play they loved it to- seems like yesterday.
Now I'm nearly 56 years old. At my twenties and thirtys I thought, that is only music for elder people. Now I'm thinking, it is timeless music for all people!😊😅❤
This was the last dance that my nan and grandad had at my 21st Birthday party. I am 53 now and whenever I listen to it, it makes me smile and cry at the same time.❤️❤️
Dawn Lauder My mom just passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020. My eight-year-old daughter Dance to this song she was wearing my mother’s 80th birthday party 50s theme skirt. My wife recorded it on Facebook. She loved Engelbert Humperdinck. So do I for that matter. Great vocalist
Dawn Lauder my mum loved him too! Every time I hear this I always think of her. I also loved him so much. I married a man from India and everyone told me that he looks just like Englebert. He really did but, too bad he couldn’t sing at all. I’m so sorry for for the loss of your Mum. It’s still hard even after 7 years. But, it will become less painful with time. You’ll smile again. She wouldn’t want you to be sad always. Hang in there! ❤️
In London, England you get to choose one song for a Funeral and I played this for my Darling Mum's funeral on the 24th May, 1996 and I still miss her very much but as an only child and single and now 66 years old I have lived and enjoyed virtually every single day on my life as my Mum and Dad who died nearly 50 years ago on the 11th April, 1971 would have wanted and , hopefully , one day I will join them but not too soon though :) Good Luck.....:)

Grew up hearing this song as a kid in the 70s aunts, uncles, god parents dancing reminds me of loved ones no longer with us .Life goes so quickly appreciate the people around you now one day they will be gone.
You can listen to this song over and over and it never ceases to tear you up .. Beautiful arrangement , Incredible Vocal .. King of Romance did it again !!
Freakin range on his voice is incredible. Something you don't see these days because today its more about visual appeal than raw musical or vocal talent, unfortunately.
I'm 23 and my first memory ever was eating spaghetti Bolognese with my mum and dad and listening to Engelbart on surround sound, godddddd, nobody makes music like this anymore. I also learnt Spanish Eyes on guitar just so that I could play/sing it to my mum
Oh yeah, crazy talent. I remember being a kid when Engelbert and Tom Jones were dominating their genre. My parents had all the old crooners albums in the house. Sinatra, Andy Williams, Matt Munro, Tony Bennett, Jack Jones etc. All those guys were great. But these two guys were just better with the exception of Sinatra. Sinatra didn't have the voice these fellows had but he knew how to sing. He really did sound like he was singing to you, the listener. No idea how he did that, strange talent. Over the years I've gone back and forth as to which of these two guys was better. I have come to the conclusion that they are both great, but just different. Engelbert was actually hospitalized for malnutrition at one point in his career because he couldn't earn enough to sustain him and his family...hard to imagine. Gordon Mills, manager for both Jones and Humperdinck was a genius. He thrust-ed both of these great talents into the public eye and the rest is history. Lucky for us.
I was mostly a 60's-70's Hard Rock, 60's-70's Classic Rock, Elvis Presley and 1950's Rock & Roll guy when I was much younger but when I got much older I started appreciating and liking the singing of music from Engelbert Humperdinck. I started seriously liking Christian Gospel Music and Romantic Music when I got much older. No one can sing this song as good as Engelbert Humperdinck. The only other one a close 2nd hearing is Petula Clark.
As a little boy I remember vividly my Nan and Grandad dancing to this and seeing the love and joy in their faces, those memories will stay with me forever ❤️
Another beautiful sung song by my favorite singer Mr.Engelbert ❤️ he is amazing and will always be my number 1 forever ❤️ 🥰 ❤️ I love him with all of my heart ❤️ 😍 🥰 😘 Greetings from Austria (Vienna) 🇦🇹 Renate 💋🌹💋

Heavens yes! I remember in 2013 when I was bored out of my mind and was listening to tom jones songs on youtube. When I looked at suggested videos, Englebert Humperdinck popped up. Mind you I had no clue who he was then. However the suggested vids were plastered with Humperdinck vids. I said let's give him a try. First time I ever heard Release Me. Pow been a fan ever since.
This Guy just sings…effortless, when singers used to literally sing for there Supper….now it’s all auto tune, backing singers and electronic touch ups!
Happy memories of my auntie Kath and uncle John dancing to this as I grew up. Sadly both killed 6 years ago today by a drink driver. Twinflames that brought so much light to the world with their love. We need to bring back love songs.
Happy 80th!!, Engelbert (couple days back).... !!..... You certainly will get the last dang waltz at this rate... Live on, Superstar...!! Love you, dude....

Thank you. This song was clearly inspired by "Strangers in the Night," which Bert Kaempfert, Charlie Singleton, and Eddie Snyder wrote for Sinatra, except that "Strangers" had a happy ending.

Timeless class. Always evokes warm memories.
A classic! They do not make music like this today. Thank you to the poster.
Saw him in concert in the early 70’s at the Greek Theater. Sure wish I could see him again. His voice makes melt

Love him he’s a brilliant singer
Sweet sexy,calming,soothing,..additive ...that's what this beautiful man and his voice is..
I wondered should I go or should I stay,
The band had only one more song to play.
And then I saw you out the corner of my eye,
A little girl, alone and so shy.
I had the last waltz with you,
Two lonely people together.
I fell in love with you,
The last waltz should last forever.
But the love we had was going strong,
Through the good and bad we get along.
And then the flame of love died in your eye,
My heart was broke in two when you said goodbye.
I had the last waltz with you,
Two lonely people together.
I fell in love with you,
The last waltz should last forever.
It's all over now, nothing left to say,
Just my tears and the orchestra playing.
La la la la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la la la.
I had the last waltz with you,
Two lonely people together.
I fell in love with you,
The last waltz should last forever.
La la la la la la la la la.
