Led Zeppelin was an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group comprised vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. With a heavy, guitar-driven sound, they are cited as one of the progenitors of hard rock and heavy metal, although their style drew from a variety of influences, including blues and folk music. Led Zeppelin has been credited as significantly impacting the nature of the music industry, particularly in the development of album-oriented rock (AOR) and stadium rock.
Their 1969 debut, Led Zeppelin, was a top-ten album in several countries and featured such tracks as "Good Times Bad Times", "Dazed and Confused" and "Communication Breakdown". Led Zeppelin II (1969) was their first number-one album, and yielded "Ramble On" and "Whole Lotta Love". In 1970, they released Led Zeppelin III which featured "Immigrant Song". Their untitled fourth album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV (1971), is one of the best-selling albums in history with 37 million copies sold. The album includes "Black Dog", "Rock and Roll" and "Stairway to Heaven", with the latter being among the most popular and influential works in rock history. Houses of the Holy (1973) yielded "The Ocean", "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "The Rain Song". Physical Graffiti (1975), a double album, featured "Trampled Under Foot" and "Kashmir".
Led Zeppelin has influenced hard rock and heavy metal bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rush, Queen, Scorpions, Aerosmith, the Black Crowes, and Megadeth as well as progressive metal bands like Tool and Dream Theater. They influenced some early punk and post-punk bands, among them the Ramones, Joy Division and the Cult. They were also an important influence on the development of alternative rock, as bands adapted elements from the "Zeppelin sound" of the mid-1970s, including the Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. Bands and artists from diverse genres have acknowledged the influence of Led Zeppelin, such as Madonna, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Kesha, and Katie Melua.

They made absolutely the right decision not to carry on without John Bonham. He couldn't be replaced for numerous reasons. It was over and I think the attempts they have made to reunite and recreate have proved that decision in Dec 1980 was just and correct. I think they are the best band ever. Their body of work is so brilliant and timeless.

There body of work is nothing compared to the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. They never had enough variety and to me every album sounds the same, could of come out of any year and they couldn't write a number one to save there lives and live the stones were better between 69-74. The problem is Robert plant as his voice makes every song sound the same with his warbling and just standing there plus they ripped off to many songs! I understand people copy other songs and that's how music works but they gave no credit for the amount they stole. But like Keith Richards says there's only to much of plant you can listen to till you feel like pulling your ears off!! And lyrics are atrocious or stolen! Don't get me wrong they were good but not compared to Beatles or Stones maybe to stoned Americans but in England never were anything really

Couldn’t agree more! The only competition was Cream, and they had already broke up! You had Yes and ELP, but they had broken away from classic blues rock. Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull was already on a different track, as well! Black Sabbath emerged, but they were different as well!

Four ultimately talented individuals came together in a a precise moment in time. I would never try and explain it. There was never anything like them before and there has never been since. I went onto many bands looking for someone to fill the void they left. As much as I enjoyed the music scene after them I have found as probably many have no one compares! As I have loved the reunions they were all missing something and it was only recently I realized what it was, THE SPONTANEITY! I don't know if they would had went on as they were if John hadn't passed but it seemed even in 1980 they were still playing long sets. As for the reunions we know Live Aid was a mess but I still loved it. Atlantic's 40th was not great but again it was for me. I think Page and Plant's excursion back in time was wonderful but it also lacked the spontaneity of Zeppelin. The 02 show was beautiful way to put the legacy to rest. Jason got his respect and his chance to make his father proud. That said Jason is not the same player. Mostly because he dose not have John's influences. Today my main musical go to is Zeppelin. I find the radio boring and often turning it off. There are those I try and enjoy but they all seem to become stale. I think I could listen to only Zeppelin the rest of my days. The Cabala recordings were a tremendous find and it was new to me. Then there were the live video's that surfaced mainly because of the internet. Most of which I never knew exsisted before. I was always a fan of the unofficial live recordings as my introduction to Zeppelin was a vinyl double album called Blueberry Hill recorded at the Fillmore. I lost it over the years but that was my introduction to the greatest band I ever had heard and love to this day! My Bach or Mozart if you will!
I am with you! I saw them at the Orlando Sports Stadium early on(I think August 1970), and I have been hooked ever since. My wife does not understand my infatuation with them, but I just never get tired of them. I have an Ipod with the lps in chronological order which I use when I am out and about, but to fully appreciate the music, you must hear it via a great sound system. It truly was a sad day for me when Bonzo passed. All things must run their course I suppose. I wish the best to the other three members.
@@markcarter4504 Sad is not the word! I never had the pleasure of seeing them but that day I will never forget. They were going to be my first concert. I was cutting my last few vlasses in high school and I was going to the ticket office. On my way across the yard radio's blared and as I reached the end of the yard the news came over the radio. I don't think I was ever as crushed as I was at that moment. I would never see Zeppelin. Plant was my first concert and I seen Page a week before Live Aid. I enjoyed Robert's solo stuff but the heavy was gone until he got together with Jimmy. Even then it took awhile before they really started getting back to where they were.
@@johnnilsson1311 When I saw them in Orlando, it was at the Orl. Sports Stadium, which was originally a cattle auction complex. Eddie Graham turned it into a wrestling arena. Later the concerts began. It was very hot and the acoustics sucked, but it was Zeppelin. Just before stairway, Plant commented about how hot it was, and he said" what an amazing place". I am sure it stood out to them as being a strange place for a concert, but in 1970, it was the best Orlando had to offer. When I listen to that show on You Tube, it is a blast from the past for sure.

I recall hearing Whole Lotta Love as a young man and thinking it was raw, explicit, and dangerous. From that day forward Zeppelin became my favorite band, and each new album seemed like a gift.

Jimmy Page Robert Plant John Paul Jones John Bonham a stellar line up. They created some timeless music and made a lot of fans happy. I'm a life long fan. I'll always listen to them almost every day of my life.
Led Zep II was my true initiation to rock at 12. It changed my life regarding music and started to play guitar and till now, I'm 61, I played Zep awesome and geniuses creations. They will always be one of the top 3 band for me along with Pink Floyd and the Beatles.

Today is the forty third anniversary of Bonzo's death. RIP Bonzo.
No matter what people think or as what critics say Led Zeppelin changed rock&roll for the better they had a bond that other bands couldn’t hold together to me that was the glue to hold Led Zeppelin together and when john B died it was the end of zeppelin as a whole if only johns son Jason was born earlier enough to stepped in to take his dad’s spot I love all of zeppelins songs but I didn’t come to appreciate the music and lyrics till I was into my 40”s still the greatest rock band of all time

Stairway to Heaven is so awesome! Yes they played it all the time and it was number 1 in America for quite awhile! But now new generations who have never heard it before r blown away!!! I have even seen guys cry abit from the emotion of it.! So yes they played it alot but it is because people wanted to hear it all the time back in the day. Now me as a older but still sexy Zep fan love to hear it all over again but with new ears and new young fans that maybe only knew rap but now a whole new few generations later it still TOTAL FIRE and it is not lost them. They wish they could have seen them live. My generation was totally lucky and blessed for all their music and other bands in thr 70’s!
The first CD I ever owned was a gift from my father to me when I was 12 years old. It was LED ZEPPELIN ll. I played the hell out of that CD when my parents were not around on my Dads Stereo System. When I turned 13 I got Money for my Birthday and one of the gifts I bought myself was Led Zeppelin l. The first track Good Times Bad Times just hooked and Blew my young mind. I never had the chance to see the original line up of LED Zeppelin because of the year I was born, growing up my Dad shared stories with me of him and his friends in the early 70’s seeing LED ZEPPELIN numerous times and how they always ended up with in the first 8 rows. When I was in Highschool MTV Unplugged was a great show to watch and they got ROBERT PLANT and JIMMY PAGE back together to play their show. I am sure a lot of people thought it would only be a one time thing but a the “UNLEADED” tour transpired. As soon as I heard they were going to tour I begged my Dad to get tickets. I woke up one Saturday morning when he was coming through the front door, he asked me “How are you doing in school” I replied “Good” he told me “Keep your grades up and I will have a suprise for you” my Dad took me to see Page&Plant on their first tour. A couple of years later “Walking ThroughClarksDale” was put out by Page and Plant, I bought that CD and tickets to the second tour they did. Their music is absolutely timeless

I grew up w the music of the British invasions part 1 and part 2. From the Beatles and Stones to Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. By far Zeppelin stood above them all. Musically they could be scattered during their live shows, some great and some ok. Studio wise them and Floyd produced flawless records along with their chosen engineers - who dont get enough credit. No one brought the swagger of Zeppelin, no one. Yes, other bands were tremendous but Zep brought an excitement, a insanity to their audience who adored them. It was a mystical power that they wielded and never let go of.

In Through the Out Door was actually one of my favorite albums. I liked the experimentation.
It was a rough time. Plant sounded really tore at the time of this album, but sang from the heart with “All of My Love”!
Led Zeppelin was definitely my favorite band in the 80s, Rush was a close second. Of course Rush continued to release albums and eventually took the number one spot but I definitely still get in my Zeppelin moods where they are pretty much number one at least for that day

September25th.1980 was the demise of Led Zeppelin when John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham passed.
The only time that they reformed and even came close with the original sound, is when "Bonzo's" boy Jason was behind the drum kit.
It should be noted that at a soundcheck,"Bonzo" walked out onto the grounds to see Led Zeppelin play Kashmir with preteen Jason at the helm. And holding it down just like his Pa.
The previous paragraph mentioned was at Knebworth in August of '79. Can't recall if it was the first week they preformed or second. Would have been great to see them either time.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Led Zeppelin in 1971,72,73,and forth and final time 3/5/75 in Dallas in 1971&72 I think they were still a little rough around the edges in 73 I think they were almost there and by 1975 they were a fine tuned machine and the crowned jewel of any band on the planet. There have been only two bands where if anything happen to any member the band was over they could not be replaced Led Zeppelin & Rush.

Led Zeppelin was the best hard rock band in the late 60's early 70's. I still have my albums 1-3, but unfortunately I bought #4 on 8-track and we all know what happened to that system. Since I don't believe in replacing my music purchases just because technology changes or mistakes I didn't replace #4, my loss I guess , but I refuse to pay for something twice when the loss wasn't my fault. At 71 I still and always will love and listen to Led Zeppelin.

I was 12 when one and II came out! I was 14 when number 4 was released- can you imagine.
Houses of the Holy was pure magic, black light posters, a trip to a mystic land. I love that album, every record is stand alone for me, and part of a continuum.
Physical Graffiti came out the year I graduated high school.(!) Followed by Presence.
Then I saw them at Day On The Green.

Led Zeppelin was my first _favorite_ band. After that it was Rush, but since then there have just been too many great bands and genres I'm into to ever have just one favorite again.

Led Zeppelin: the hard and heavy balanced out by the soft and light.
You can't copyright a common descending chord progression. Stairway is nothing like Taurus after the first couple of bars.
The start of Stairway is typical, familiar, lots of song sound like that going back 100s of years, typical but very well done, what follows is totally original and was ripped off by everybody.

Greatest Rock-n-Roll band of all time! It was the golden age for Rock music and Zepp created magic with every song. They were so many firsts with Led Zeppelin - every album was iconic. All four members are at the top of the Best Rock (Drummer/Vocalist/Guitarist/Keyboardist) of all time. You just cannot get any better than that. Stairway to Heaven was unanimously chosen as our Hgh School Class of 75 Song. The Principal forbid it and chose something else. All anyone remembers about that idiot is how "uninformed about music" he was for dissing one of the greatest songs of all time. And that's all most of us will remember him for - cannot even remember his stupid name. Robinson Class of 75.

Absolutely Love Zep 3! One of their most diverse albums with many folk and acoustic songs, but still blew everyone away with “Immigrant Song”!!! Also killed it with “Since I’ve Been Loving You”! Magnificent!!! Back in the days when they would put out a couple of albums per year!! Bands these days can barely put out a good album every 4-5 years! In all that time, many bands have broken up!

I enjoyed this doc, okay? But Led Zeppelin were NOT "Heavy Metal"! They were Blues-based heavy rock 'n roll combined with acoustic, traditional Keltic and later European strings and sounds. As Jimmy liked to say, "I was interested in light and shade, heavy and light." In other words: Contrasts! Black Sabbath are "Heavy Metal", LZ is not.
Page lacking the tastefulness of Beck? HUH. listen to "The Rain Song". far more sophisticated, nuanced and beautiful than anything Beck has written.

Good song, but I'm rather partial to "Fool in the Rain". I love Jimmy's fuzz bass lead and the syncopated drum fills.

I still remember in the 80s def leppard was bragging about outselling led zeppelin I was still young never new much about zeppelin at the time and was ya fuck those old men this is the 80s we are leaving that old shit in the dust time went on I discovered zeppelin and def leppard in my mind only has one good album after discovering zeppelin I understood that nothing no hard rock band was doing in the 80s was anything as good as zeppelin I love those old men lol

If you're a real Zephead none of this documentary casts any new light on the greatest rock band to ever walk the earth, but a good effort nonetheless. 👍

Dazed & Confused was the literal 1st tune I learned on Bass on my Fender Jazz Bass and later I did on a P Bass with my own pop added to it. I would have LOVED to be able to play Bass with Page on Lead. Sadly being 62 now and having nerve damage and arthritis in both hands I sadly cant play any longer.

Maybe it's my age, being older than the critics on this video or maybe it's my American view which is different but I have a completely different view of these albums from my youth.
I see their later albums as better than their early stuff. I feel the same way about the Beatles stuff.
I feel the Beatles put out their best work as individuals in their later bands.
Some of the Robert Plant solo stuff is also his most evolved musicly.
His Principal of Moments is close to In Through The Out Door. I think that's the Zeppelin era best stuff even today.
Physical Graffiti is the best album by a country mile
Na earlier is best for energy and power for both bands.
@@matthewashman1406 Band on The Run and Live And Let Die are not lacking energy and are more complex to keep the music interesting beyond three chords. And Lennon's, Harrison's and Plant's later stuff has aged well.
In short, when Bonham sadly passed, Led Zeppelin was over. Yes we have the studio albums and 1000s of great live Boot-leg recordings some better than others, but as a fan of the band that never got to see them live I always wonders what a 1980s Led Zeppelin would have been like? would it be harder like the first two albums, would it have a vibe like the Wearing and Tearing off coda? I wonders sometimes what would Jimmy Page and Bonham consider "Harder Rock" than what In through the out door was? Have to remember that their was AC/DC who just was blistering hot as Zeppelin was off their first album, and New Wave bands like Talking Heads, and alt rockers like The Police were huge if not bigger live act then Zeppelin was in 1979-80. But the old story goes that music industry was shaken by the loss of some great rock bands and when Zeppelin came out with Coda it gave the record stores a jolt that was much needed. I still wonder what would have been....?

Muy buen documental. Refleja perfectamente a la banda, con sus claros y sus oscuros. Para mi es la mejor y mas grande banda de Rock and Roll de todos los tiempos, y eso que hay muchas otras bandas de las que soy fan, bandas fabulosas, pero como dice la ultima frase del documental: si dentro de 100 años quieres explicarle a alguien lo que es el Rock and Roll con poner unas cuantas canciones de Led Zeppelin se podrían hacer la más perfecta idea, e imagen.

Presence is amazing. Achilles Last Stand. Tea for One. Incredible! INCREDIBLE. As for In Through the Out Door, I think they returned to a higher water mark than Presence with that one. In The Evening, Fool In the Rain, I'm Gonna Crawl, All Of My Love, all classics on par with their first six albums. And then the barf-choke-die routine. Undignified end.

Would u all be able to not dive into sex drugs and rock n roll if u had their fame? It does get old… speaking as a old time groupie …. All bands that tour r surrounded by Gropius, drugs, drink… but what I have heard John Paul Jones said that they all couldn’t afford to be wasted because they never knew where each song would go live… u had to have it all together. When ever they played not up to par…. It would become this big deal… they played so much it was bound to happen. Fortunately they had very few of those kind of gigs!
