- In this episode of Tabletop Jason, I unbox Illuminati: The Game of Conspiracy by Steve Jackson Games. This is the second edition of the game, updated and released in 2019.
#illuminati #tabletopgames #cardgames
From the publisher:
Although it’s full of hilarious satire, Illuminati is also a tense strategic game where reading and manipulating your opponents is as important as playing the right cards.
Contains 110 cards with new card back designs and 8 individualized reference cards.
Includes new art created by Lar deSouza, known for his 2008 Shuster Award-winning online comic, Least I Could Do.
Illuminati is one of the all-time greats in the Steve Jackson Games product line.

They got to Steve Jackson. FORCED him to change the artwork and dumb down the game. He was ON TO SOMETHING in the 80s and 90s and they absolutely had to put a stop to it...
Man, it sure seems that way. The art on this version makes the whole think look like a joke. I don't think the game mechanics have changed, but as we saw with the CCG version, it was more about exposing the rulers than the game itself. Thanks for watching, and if you get the chance, check out my video looking at my INWO cards.
@@TabletopJason ... will do. 👍🏾
How can I get the old cards? Do i have to buy of someone?
@@TabletopJason
You are totally wrong. The game mechanics were absolutely changed. I've opened a brand new set from the first edition that was played in the 1980's. Therefore, I know what I am talking about. I suggest you pretend Penn and Teller made the game and not Steve Jackson. I do not believe the game you unboxed was created by Steve Jackson.
The rulebook WAS A GAME PIECE! If that makes no sense to you, then that is because you are unaware of how the game mechanics were changed. As a matter of fact, I don't see any way possible the first edition can be played in true form on Steam.
There are people still alive that know what I am talking about. Yet, anybody who just watched your video would have no clue. I am very sad to see what has been lost in this latest edition. But I know what to do about it.
Buy two sets. Play with one. This game requires personal modifications to match the original box set. But upon closer inspection I might still find what I know should be there. I'll wait until my set is delivered.
Delete this post if you know what I am talking about. No need to ruin everything for everybody. I'm just trying to say to think outside the box without revealing. If you delete this post, I'll interpret you pulled a fast one in this video.
@@antoneckhart4010 You don't want the old cards from the 1980's set. What you want is an unopened 1980's set.
My dad used to love playing this with us as kids. But you are right, the Art on them is not as good as the first set.
Yeah it really has a more kiddie feel than the CCG version. No IRL people, either, but maybe they just didn't want to get in trouble or something. Who knows? Thanks for watching!
Damn, that intro was very catchy. Interesting concept of a card game! 👀👀
Thanks! It's a lot of fun doing the weird skits and trying out different special effects like that.
Wow that intro was really good!!
This board game is so out there that it might actually be from the said name of the game lol
Could be :) I don't know if you saw my first video about the collectible card game, but that stuff is way out there. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this unboxing and uploading this video. The great game that is reality. now i can buy it 👁️
Be sure to check back tomorrow. I'll be posting a video on how to play this game. Thanks for watching!
@@TabletopJason Thanx you!
You've exposed them! I'll expect you have 'disappeared' very soon.... Nice one man, this game looks very interesting! Internet pron 🤣 Brilliant job as always my man, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words! I need to get back into doing a little more skits with these videos. They're hard to do, but so much fun to make, even if they look somewhat amateur (I'm still learning, right) I've got to do a demo of this game and pick up its expansion set sometime as well.
Orbital mind control laser is Scaring me
Wow, never really put much thought into that one. But the technology is probably already here!
Why can I not find *any* footage of people sitting down and playing this game through?
Good question. I was trying to work on one, but it was kind of pain and none of my friends wanted their faces on camera :/
Hi they have done a new 2020 illuminati card game can you please do a video on that, it looks like new cards and new predictions!
Wow I had no idea. It's a 26-card expansion pack for this edition. "Steve Jackson brings you rules for the spread of COVID-19, opening up and closing down, and all the other things we've seen. Cards include Statue Smashers, Defund the Police, Mask Designers, and, of course, the one that changes everything: #BLACKLIVESMATTER." I will totally get this pack and do a video on it. Thanks for letting us know!
@@TabletopJason Thank you!!! Cant wait, I discover by chance on there website I'm pretty sure it's new cards though, I'm in the UK or I would bought them myself, looking forward for your video
@@XRP212 I'll order it this weekend and do a video on it soon! Also planning to do a how to play / review of this one. And the NWO version too.
This must be very interesting and fun to play. I thought for a second that the game is related to the Illuminati movie that Tom Hanks starred in. Great video work and your unboxing is unmatched by anyone!
Thanks for the compliment. As for the movie, I'd say it's the other way around. The Illuminati conspiracy theory has been around for decades (centuries?) but this game and the similar collectible card game, both by Steve Jackson Games, helped build the legend and I think what Dan Brown did in Angels & Demons borrowed a lot of it's Illuminati lore from that legend. Sorry didn't mean to ramble :) Thanks for watching.
Can you please examen the cards for serial numbers that may hint an order of events?
Interesting thought. Not sure they have them though.
Yeah I saw quiet a few cards in there that are very suss...
I love the idea of an update adding things that are current, but man that art is awful. I guess they wanted it resembling the artwork for Munchkin? Either way, its no comparison to the original.
I completely agree. The CCG had some fun and silly things, but it still presents a more serious adult tone. The art here terrible and, yeah, it does seem like Munchkin.
Jason I'm dying to see the new edition, hope make a video soon
I'll have to pick up the expansions for this one too. Thanks for watching :)
That intro was really awesome! I love the production and editing! Cluld have fooled me!
The game it self has its own charm. The drawing are like the art of Family Guy and American Dad lol Cool!
Thanks for the compliment. I've got to say I don't really like the art on this one. The Illuminati collectible card game has a much more "grown-up" feel to it. Either way, thanks for watching!
It's like the Devil 😈 is playing a game. And if they want to know how the game ends .Just read the Bible 💯Truth how it ends
I wouldn't say this edition is very demonic. Pretty tame, actually. Thanks for watching.
This looks pretty cool, but yeah as you mentioned, I would love to see a comparison of this new one to the original 80s game, just to see what was updates and what wasn't.
Yeah, that would be really interesting. I still prefer the 1994 collectible card game version.
Ugh yes. I want to see the old one too n you threw it 😂😵💫
Thank you.
You're welcome!
oooh the art is pretty clean and fun! :DD! lmao the pale people in black card! and antifa XD! I like this deck of cards :D
Yeah, lot's of fun stuff. Check out the collectible card game to see how crazy it really gets. Thanks for watching!
I vastly prefer the artwork of INWO to this edition. I'm VERY disappointed in what I saw unboxed. This was one of my favorite games in the 80s. Surely they could leverage the art from INWO in the non-collectable format?
I couldn't agree more. The INWO art (and general feel of the game) is amazing. This version is so cartoonish, and yes, very disappointing. I haven't look at the first edition from the 80s, though. How does that art compare to the INWO version?
@@TabletopJason Well I do have the original pocketbook Illuminati stuff as well as box edition afterword. These cards were not color and had very simple black and white illustrations which weirdly I think I prefer over this 2nd edition. SJG itself seems to confirm interest in the original by rereleasing the pocketbook editions (go figure). By far though the INWO cards were stunning. At the time I had hoped it might stick as a CCG due to the artwork quality but alas everyone was focused on MtG and had no money or interest left for anything else. Perhaps they are trying to preserve the "value" of the CCG by not watering down the re-use of the artwork. Tough call. IMHO I would rather see them save the game by supporting the far superior artwork in a non-collectable format. I think somewhere in all of the editions is perhaps some hybrid edition that attempted just that... but for whatever reason I didn't acquire them while that edition was available. The good news is I do think they crowdfunded a digital edition of INWO so we may well see it soon on android and itunes and thus the game will be saved! :)
This game was made in 1995 I saw the pentagon card I saw a lot of shit in this video that was predicted why did you say there was nothing that was predicted in this video? …
This one is the current version with none of the cool predictions. You're thinking of the 1994/1995 CCG version, which had all of the great stuff. I have a video looking at my cards from that game too.
@@TabletopJason shit then I ordered the wrong one 😢
Military Complex, Terrorist Nuke, Pentagon, Saddam Hussein, and International Oil Companies is the False Flag. If there is a weapons of Mass destruction card (something similar) and the I lied card. It's the full thing.
Ooo careful the government is watching you, they are currently outside your home right now! Dude they are about to bust down your door!! ok a bit dramatic yes lol Ok seriously though this looks like a fun game, great unboxing.
Heh heh. I was kind of sad to see how tame this one is compared to the 1994 CCG, but there are still some fun cards.
is tabletop Jason Iluminati confirmed dum dum duuuuuum lol
Shhh, don't tell anyone!
The new art is hit or miss, but honestly this newer version is on par with the original deluxe edition from 1987. Most of the cards are the same as the og the major difference is government and communism being replaced with media. Some of the "scarier" stuff seems to have been taken out like KKK and the Nazis which is a bit disappointing. However, I do like that the REALLY outdated cards (Moonies, Trekkies, etc.) have been replaced with more timely matters.
You're right that it makes sense for this to have more in common with the 1987 edition, since it's an updated version to that and not to the NWO trading card game. Thanks for watching.
Orbital mind control lasers 🤫
I know! Thanks for watching :)
Thanks
Welcome. Hope it helped.
is cable tv in that deck?
There's a card called Cable Companies in this edition.
6:05 more planned/current events and future dlc.
Even this dumbed down version of the game has some good prophecy/planned stuff. Thanks for watching.
@@TabletopJason np man .
Omg I love Steve Jackson games! Ive spent so many hours on munchkin. Lol.
I haven't tried Munchkin...I always forget that SJG makes non-Illuminati related things too ha. Thanks for watching!
This is a remake of the original game, which played way better than the CCG.
Awesome. I need to try this one. The CCG is pretty messy.
this is a very watered down version of the original
Yeah no kidding. I hate the art style and the fact that they avoid most controversial topics. The 2020 expansion is a little better, but still goes out of its way to appear "safe". Thanks for watching.
That's is GAME ??? OR SING FOR UPCOMING PLANNING
Great question!
i wish someone would care to explain each card
Interesting idea. Maybe I could do something like that. Maybe batch the card by type of something. Food for thought.
now your using your noggin
Thanks for the unbox everything was Crystal clear. Ima say the art is HORRIBLE!
Yeah it's just horrible. To be fair, though, this is a second edition of the original, so the art is similar to that. The art in the Illuminati: New World Order CCG is far superior, so comparing it to that isn't even a contest.
Click here for the first video about the 1994 collectible card game, Illuminati New World Order: ua-cam.com/video/e8xcmQjbqgo/v-deo.html
Which is better, the CCG or the Second Edition?
You will never figure us out 🔻🔺
I don't know...I think I'm on to them :) Thanks for watching!
Nothing really interesting in the new set.
100%.
Also doesn’t say no where near as many word like doesn’t say shit about what they actually do
All of the fun stuff is in the 1994 CCG version.
First sign ,, made in china !!!
Not "made" just printed there.
Those cards are terrible ! They are such knock offs of the originals as far as the originals actually predicted the future
I agree completely. The art on the current set is terrible and also lacks the mystery of the CCG version.
They got to Mr Jackson and made him stop ! He would have been better not coming out with anything at all
They got to Mr Jackson and made him stop ! He would have been better not coming out with anything at all
Looks like complete bs
I absolutely hate the illustrations in this edition.
Flatards lol
lol
