    This is a superb instrument…if it’s good enough for Howard Scarr to use / program then it’s fine by me…I love it - worth every penny of the very modest cost

    omg this is exactly the type of tutorial I was looking for. I'm going to watch the whole series. I demoed Hive 2 and after a few minutes I fell in love with it and ended up getting it.
    I see no reason to continue using Serum tbh. It sounds so thin compared to Hive. Is there anything that Serum can do that Hive 2 can't? (genuine question) I'm not into the supernerdy stuff of micro-manipulating wavetables and stuff like that.
    This is probably my new favorite synth (up there with Diva, wasn't expecting that), modern and analog sound at the same time, the best of both worlds, a freaking dream!
    And that shape generator is crazy! The pad presets blew my mind too 🤯
    I tend to tweak presets more often than not but Hive 2 has actually made me curious about making my own sounds and this series look like the perfect place to learn to do so. Love your style. Instant subscribe. cheers!

      So cool you got hive 2!! Hive is a very special synth and I prefer it over serum a thousand fold.
      Hives wavetable interpolation is by far the best I've ever heard in any synth. If you're curious take the same wavetable and slowly move through it in both synths, and check out the different interpolation modes in hive. You'll be amazed!
      Hive is one of those synths that is quick to use once you get familiar with it, it sounds amazing and it's got a very low cpu footprint.
      On its surface it's quite straight forward and easy to get used to. Buuuut hive can also get quite complex and even has some interesting hidden features!

      Same here dude, hive is in almost all my projects. One of the coolest things about it, is that on the surface it looks vary simple and easy to use, but the deeper you wanna dive into it, it's crazy how much it can actually do. This is gonna be a fun course, there's lots of hidden features in hive. If you don't already know, go to the mod matrix, right click the target window and find 'Spread' under the filter list and modulate that with an Lfo 😉

    I use and love Hive2 and Zebra2 and ZebraHZ! I also just started working more with Bitwig, and it seems u-He has worked with Bitwig to integrate their synth presets into Bitwig. This is a unique integration effort!

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  Рік тому

      hive 2 and zebra hz are some of the best synths out there, especially with the plugmon skins. the sound that comes out of u-he synths are such top quality that I find myself very often picking them over lots of the others I have.
      I didnt know they worked with bitwig thats super interesting, I used bitwig a little bit and it seems like a cool daw.

    So why Hive? Why is it necessary? What does it do that others don't do?

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  Рік тому +10

      For starters I would say that it's a u-he synth. The sound that comes out of their synths is nothing short of amazing. Hives workflow is extremely fast, it's very effecient on cpu, the sequencer/arp is very good, I personally love how you can record the sequence you want by just playing the notes on your keyboard that you want the sequence to follow.
      The shape sequencer is a really cool way to make different rhythms and interesting modulation shapes. The function generators are really really cool once you get the hang of how they work. The wavetable interpolation is by far the best sounding I have ever heard in anything synth on the market right now, and you can have 2 oscillators running independent wavetables at the same time, with both their respective sub oscillators using the same wavetable. Even though I don't judge a synth by the presets that come with it. The presets that ships with hive are very good and often usable. The built in Fx sound really good and quick to dial up.
      Both oscillators have a mod env and mod Lfo knob that is hardwired to the cutoff for modulation without having to burn up a slot in the mod matrix. I could go on but yeah it's a fantastic synth and its so easy to get good sounds out of hive. If you don't have it, check out the demo and see for yourself, if you haven't used it before, take a little time to get familiar with it and I guarantee you'll fall in love, just as I did.

    I was about to jokingly say "way lighter on the system than Pigments" ans BLAM you sais the CPU costs as reason number 1..Arturia stuff really is a resource hog. I didn't experience any of that because my previius tracks were either simple or used mostly loops and audio.
    so now i have a need for both Hive and Diva

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  Рік тому

      Yeah man the cpu cost for hive is so nice and it still sounds amazing. Those two things sealed the deal for me. Not to mention all the other stuff it can do, like the shape sequencer and the arp/seq page. It's all around a really useful synth.
      Diva sounds amazing too but diva does hit the cpu pretty hard, u-he did help with that by adding a multicore option that splits the voices to different threads with actually does help out cpu cost.

    Did you ever really answer the why? Low CPU and it sounds good? Just use stock plugins if that's all you wanted.

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  9 місяців тому +1

      You absolutely could just use stock 100% and a lot of times that's easier in the long run and transferring sessions. I'm conjunction with low cpu and sounding good. I really like hives work flow, the wavetable interpolation is top notch. And since I'm in FL studio I prefer uhe synths to the stocks ones for sessions I do.

    This synth has no relevance, the stuff that sets it apart are very minor points. Not much innovation here, U-He was just phoning it in.

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  6 місяців тому

      I disagree on that one. I think hive sounds great, the interface is very quick, the wavetable interpolation is extremely smooth and it's cpu consumption is very optimized. I use it it just about every track.

    • @rodnee2340
      @rodnee2340 6 місяців тому +1

      You obviously don't understand what Hive can actually do. This is my work horse. I use it above Serum or pigments or Vital. The filters are the best sound you can get that's not analogue. The sequencer is fantastic and using the shapes (and no other soft synth has them) you can have a sequence within the sequence the FX section is fantastic and the overall sound puts Serum to shame. So if you have Hive 2 I would give it another go. If you don't then you don't know what you are missing.

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  6 місяців тому +1

      Also the wavetable interpolation is the best I've heard in any synth! And speaking of the sequencer. Using the sequencer mod as a modulation source is lots of fun. Hive is amazing!

    • @rodnee2340
      @rodnee2340 6 місяців тому +1

      @@jonaudio agreed! I make wave tables on Serum and use them in Hive 2. And quite honestly you don't need too because the factory WTs are fantastic! But I cant disrespect Serum because it's the absolute daddy! And the WT editor can't be beat! Both synths never cease to amaze me!

    • @jonaudio
      @jonaudio  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah the wt editor in Serum is top notch for sure. I've done the same too, make them in Serum and use then in hive lol. And if you set the interpolation to Spectral and trally slow it down, it's really impressive. Also there's a new dark theme out now for hive if you don't know already. It looks nice.
