As you say, everyone is different. Driving skills taught by instructors are very basic and do not go far enough. Basic skills of driving involve technical skills like geometry, (how to position a vehicle on the road) or the front & rear track of the wheels driving through a bend, especially in the case of ridged and articulated Lorry’s , if car drivers are not aware of these basics then they cannot be aware. Knowledge of how various vehicles behave in skid conditions of if a tyre blows out, and things like keeping a good grip on the steering wheel in the case of “aquaplaning”. Lack of Lane discipline is the main issue one sees whilst driving together with driving far too close to the vehicle in front at speed. These are just a tiny number of skills not given enough tuition by instructors. Skills are obtained as you gain miles of driving time. Driver aids are what you purchase with the vehicle of your choice, many are useful additions for safety others are annoying distractions, and it should be the left to the drivers discretion . Basic switches and controls should be able to be found by touch and similarly operated so you know that operation has been done, touch screens and touch sensitive controls both mean you have to avert your eyes from the road to operate, decent voice control systems are very useful too. At lot has yet to be learnt by new and long term drivers to improve driving standards.
