Y'all didn't pay attention. She was never going to Indiana. She had been in talks with New York and Phoenix since she announced that she was leaving. The Mercury was hunting her since last year according to their GM and FO. Indiana was never on the table. Satou ultimately chose Phoenix for two reaaons.
1. They have a very nice facility, which she wanted to help deal with her injuries.
2. They have a winning culture, Indiana doesn't. She wanted be the face of a franchise and since Taurasi is on her way out, Phoenix needed their star and Satou fills that role.
So all in all, Satou basically is a face of a feanchise now looking to carve out her own legacy rather than join one in New York.
I don’t think phoenix is a big threat personally. 🤷♂

Satou was never going to the Liberty. She just answered the question about playing with her sister because what else was she going to say. No, I don’t want to play with my sister? Although, I don’t see why she chose the Mercury. I would have went Fever or Liberty.
There's always 2026 for Sabally and the Fever. We'll see if she can play a full season after playing Unrivaled
@@christopherkohl6511This trade had me wondering if there was a motive for the Fever to help facilitate the Satou trade. I understand they got Sophie but having to give up a first round pick and the Mercury basically gave up nothing but Ty Harris is crazy.
I wonder if this was a way for the Fever to do Satou a favor in helping her get to her preferred team? There was no other team who could have been the 3rd team to make this trade work. If things don’t work out in Phoenix, maybe Satou sees how they helped her get out of Dallas and considers the Fever after another season improving there facilities? It doesn’t seem crazy to me at least.
If she went to the Liberty, it was going to be at her sister’s expense. After her great play in Game 5 of the finals, I expect her minutes to increase this year. If Satou went to the Liberty- her sister would most definitely be collecting DNPs with Stewie and Jonquel already there.
Problem was ny wasn’t going to give up fiebech or laney….laney would’ve been the trade choice but she was the first of that bunch with Sabrina to start the rebuild of that team so there loyal to Betnijah 💯

Liberty never made any sense for Satou. She would have been called a ring chaser and ruined her rep. Plus anyone who's had siblings, you know you don't want to play on a team with your sister

The Fever aren't on the level of Lynx or Liberty, yet. They have potential, but there are a lot of questions if it can all come together like we hope it does.
G - Clark, Mitchell, Hull, Cunningham, KLS, Berger, Wallace
F/C - Boston, Howard, Dantas, Saxton(?)
I still want to see them get another big. Right now they are pretty thin and I don't know enough about Saxton to judge whether she can fill that backup role. A long, athletic defensive center coming off the bench I think would complement the current roster pretty well. Maybe an overseas player, or they make another deal to move up from #19.

Sophie Cunningham for one year isn’t worth the 8th pick and it’s 4-year (current!) rookie-scale contract if they even remotely “hit” on the pick. It might seem to some to be worth it now, but just watch who the 8th, 9th, and 10th picks are and you will join me after seeing who the Fever regret not getting with that pick.
I think word on the street is some of the top rookies will hold out a year and play college for the new rules in 2026
What you’re ignoring is, the Fever are in WIN NOW mode. Some 8th round bench player would not get them closer to that win. CC’s different, but most rookies sit the bench. If they were on Linn Dunn’s tired “get to the playoffs & grow for another 3-4 years “ plan, your pining after a college pick makes sense, but that mode is gone now. They recognize what they have and are building to WIN NOW.

Mercury are currently 3 players one is old and injury prone, the other is young and injury prone and then they have Copper.
Mick is crazy and does no research the Fever have like 175k cap space after signing Mitchell and Howard. They have 1 roster spot left and 3 draft picks. They can’t afford another max player.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
@ first off when I posted this they hadn’t revealed what Howard signed for it was about 20k less than prior year. Then Bonner signed for 10k less so that was about 30k less than they should have cost. I also didn’t think they would release Berger, maybe Saxton. I also know they have 2 2nd rd draft picks to sign at 65k each and 3rd but that player will likely be cut before season starts. After cutting Berger and Saxton their cap space is 132k that is all going to the 2 draft picks. If they make no other deals they just barely have enough cap space, if Bonner or Howard had cost them even 10k more they would of had to trade draft picks away for future picks or found someone to take Katie Lou or Wallace in a trade.
As for the Mercury even with Brown, Thomas, Sabally and Copper they’re still a low end playoff team even if Taurasi comes back.

Satou doesn't realise it yet, but she just shot herself in the foot and screwed her chances. Who is running the show now at the Mercury, Sevgi Uzun? Diana Taurasi, Sophie Cunningham and Natasha Cloud are now no longer at the Mercury. Satou will NOT get the exposure and boost to her public profile playing at the Mercury that she would have done playing with the Fever. Just wait and see how Sophie Cunningham's public profile and endorsements explode in 2025 compared to that of Satou Sabally. Also, I cannot see the Mercury finishing above the Fever on the WNBA ladder or going deep into the WNBA finals, unlike the Fever. Satou is one more injury away from becoming a footnote in the WNBA.
I don’t think it was her choice. I think the Fever had better plans. Satou ended up having to settle, so she started talking “organizational structure/facilities” to save face.
@@grb024 That could be true. We will never know. I just hope she wasn't playing Fever fans to boost the publicity around her move. I would have liked to see her play for the Fever. As all signings in 2025 will be one-year rentals, the Fever should have their choice of players who genuinely want to play for the Fever in 2026. I would have liked Satou to be playing for the Fever in 2025 but signing Sophie Cunningham and Natasha Howard is much better short-term for the Fever.
