    Just coming by your channel as a result of trying to learn how to set up and configure SDRTrunk. Your video's have been great. Step by step in a "relaxing" format made them simple to follow. I have subscribed as a result to your channel. Thank you for putting these together.

    In Firefox, just copying the talkgroup section you want gives a nice text copy. It also pasts into Word nicely - as a table - so you can write a quick macro to add the tags needed. Excel also takes it nicely, so you can generate the macros there. (Some pages are written so badly that you have to manipulate between Paste Special in Windows, or Paste Special in Excel, then copy and paste to the other, before you get what you want. Not Radio Reference. It's laid out as a table, so it copies as a table - just what we need.)

    fellow ohioan, this is exactly what ive been attempting to do in stark county. thank you for these three vids planning on doing this soon, let you know how it works out. using a single nooelec sdr,, and no premium with RR

      Pay attention to the total bandwidth of the system you are planning to monitor. If it exceeds the bandwidth of your SDR, you may need multiple SDRs for it to work properly.

      @@ryowens i am now up. im sure adding a second and third...(9th) sdr would make this overpowered, but im getting a few talkgroup transmissions local pd etc....the muting ranges is a great workaround and now i see why the import from RR is so much easier, marcs ip is absolutely huge in scope. my single nooelec is able to pull bandwith of 2.7 mhz, that seems to be alot. ill make a simple vid and link it here later. thanks again.

    Great Video. I am just getting started with SDRTrunk. How many SDR radios do you use with this setup? Or how many are required?

    • @ryowens
      @ryowens  8 місяців тому +3

      It depends on the bandwidth of the SDR and the total bandwidth of the trunked system you are monitoring. The RSPdx that I use has a 10MHz bandwidth, which is enough to cover the local trunked system I care about, so I only need the one SDR receiver. If I were using RTL dongles though, I would likely need two or three depending on how many conversations I wanted to be able to track at one time and how wide the bandwidth required to do so would be.

    Thank you. This was very helpful for me. SDRTrunk is very useful, but it is not intuitive at all. That coupled with the radio world's way of having 7 to 10 thousand ways to say anything means that our references and software, or whatever, tend to not line up when it comes to terminology means that anyone who isn't at least moderately proficient has a *uva time getting a grasp on some of this. I would love to see an in-depth breakdown of the information we find on radioreference and what we see in SDRTrunk and other software. If that exists, please point us. If it doesn't, and it's something you could do, please do that. Would be very useful for many of us. RadioReference is great, but it doesn't hold any hands :)

      Unfortunately, I don't have a secret decoder key and find it challenging as well. I figured out how to do what I demonstrated in this video by working backwards from a working configuration and just matching up values. I don't have the expertise in trunking systems to have done it "forwards" on my own - which is why I made the video.

      @@ryowens Thanks for making it. It got me to a working system and I can play with options and value one at a time now to get and idea what is what.

    Hello, thank you for your video. This is the answer I was looking for. I have a question, I work at a company that uses p25 phase 2. We have limited radios in our particular department which is on one talk group ID out of 20 different departments, of which each of those departments has their own talk group ID. When another department wants to get a hold of my department, they switch over their radios to our channel on our Motorola radios. If I decide narrow down the alias / playlist to simply pick up my department, Will I be able to hear when the other department is contacting our department? Or will I simply hear our response? I'm kind of a new person at this so thank you for your patience.

      Oh, the reason I mentioned limited radios was because I want to use SDR trunk to at least monitor the activity on our department

    Any ideas on why it won’t recognize a control channel?

    • @ryowens
      @ryowens  2 місяці тому

      @andrewrichardson3135 unfortunately I don't know. I'm not affiliated in any way with the software. I just made a few videos showing what I had figured out. Perhaps someone else might have ideas for you, but as long as you are in range and your SDR is working, I'm not sure.

      Check to see what the bandwidth of the system you are attempting to decode. If it's greater than the bandwidth of your SDR then this could be your problem. My town Plymouth recently moved to bostons trunk system which is massive. I'm assuming that's why my $hit can't get clear decodes and it's intermittent wonky at best. Even using 2 SDRs I can only cover 6mhz of bandwidth. I forget what the Boston system is but I know it's f@#king massive 🥴I gave up 🤣. Moved into pocsag , Js8 call, key fobs, neighbors electronic devices lol

      This is not an error I've encountered, so not sure what it would be caused by. If I had to guess, I would think maybe you are not receiving a strong enough signal or maybe too strong and overdriving your receiver. I'd recommend looking at your gain settings, but aside from that, I'm not sure.

      Its most likely an issue with compatibility with a USB device your are plugging your dongles into. Try plugging your dongle into a different USB port or a different USB hub. Then, restart the app and try again.

    I have been banging my head on the wall trying to figure trunking out with the sdr trunk. i have good signal strength but no audio out. I've tested the beeps and boops as well as noaa and those are all coming through the speakers. i have tried various control frequencies in my town of Plymouth ma. i have a 30 ft high discone antenna and receive lots of signals from cape cod and other towns when using my sdr console or sdr #. so i know my signals are good, just cannot get the damn sdr trunk to push sound. i think i have enough BW with my rtl v3 set at 2.8 for at least a few of my localities. i cannot find the talk group info for my plymouth system on RR, when i try to click on it , it states premium members :( any thoughts on what i am fudging up? thanks!

      This isn't an issue I've encountered. I would just say to check all the audio settings on the software and your computer. But you've probably already done that.

      @@ryowens sure did 🥴 I can get NOAA audio out it's so weird. I may try on another laptop I have to see if I can get it to work. Of course a windows update fubar my nice laptop about 6 months ago. One of their updates made it so my computer can't recognize cameras 😂 it no longer exists in device manager, so I'm assuming it has caused other issues I have not seen like with sdr trunk

      @@user-LJF I did check NOAA right away and of course I could hear that 🤔 next I'll try to find a local system that is very small to see if it can push that out. It's so weird, I can see the signals nice and strong on the fft and waterfall. I have to posted a bunch of screen shots in Radio reference post to see if one of those guys has any tips.
