Claudia hit the nail on the head when she said Russell Wilson is like the men of the past generation. Russell Wilson reminds me of men from my fathers generation, and we need more black men like that! My father was a black man who loved his wife and family, who did everything for his family, he didn’t cheat or disrespect my mom or himself. He was an educated man who worked hard and set a tone of respect in all things he did!

    *MY PERSONAL OPINION*
Are we in the black community so used to shit, trash, being thugs, being disrespectful, toxic to our Queens and Kings, etc., that when someone DOES step up to the plate and shows what RESPECT CAN BE in the black community, we can't (or even won't) accept that?
Funky Dineva said the key word: BROKEN. Broken homes, broken hearts, broken esteem of yourself and each other, brokenhearted, etc.
We as a community need to stop making it hard on our own for those who haven't had to struggle; come from 1 or 2 parent households and was "raised right"; was taught manners; taught proper English; got good grades in school; given the tools to succeed, etc. Why are we as a community penalizing success in life and in love?
So are we going to be taking away "black cards" for everyone who doesn't sag their pants, hit the pole, smoke, drink, cuss, make a spectacle of themselves on MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, show their asses on social media, beat their wives/ girlfriends/children's mothers, take deadbeat dads to court, etc.? GTFOH with the madness.
Truth of the matter is that all these wannabe/washed up "athletes," "rappers", "actors," etc., are just pissed because 1) people are calling them out on their foolishness and fuckery and 2) half (if not most) can't pull a woman like Ciara and they WISH they had half of the class, money, and respect that Russell has in his whole body!
*Why do we need to hold Russell Wilson to a higher standard in the Black community? Why the hell aren't we holding OUR OWN SELVES accountable and to a higher standard in our community?*
C'mon Black people; WE MUST DO BETTER. PERIOD.

The hate directed toward Russell Wilson is why we have to move to a better neighborhood (where people snitch on those who commit crimes), when we hit it big financially. We are programmed to respect those who live a low standard of life with a low standard of behavior and ethics. I was once criticized for writing ‘white’ in my comments because I used correct spelling and grammar. We are now equating bad grammar and bad spelling with sounding black. It’s sad that I went to school for four years to learn to write in journalism classes, but I still have to use bad grammar and spelling to sound ‘black’. Just another way we are programmed to live down to those negative stereotypes we are labeled with.

Some call him "corny" but he is the goal. The panel got it right. I don't know anyone who really wants to trade a Russell for a Future. I think the title should have been "held in high regard". Initially when I clicked on the video segment I thought it was referring to people expecting more from Russel i.e. more action and support to the black community etc...Anyway I think he is setting a great example for alot of blended families out there and I look forward to seeing more men like him in the black community.
