Criticizing the quarterback for poor play on the field is fine. Poking fun at him for being corny, is fine, but why does it seem like everyone is now taking shots at his character? From his time in Seattle with Richard Sherman to his struggles as a Bronco and national media personalities like Kyle Brandt it seems like the narrative around Russ is changing, and people are taking shots.

Some great takes on this situation. I always felt like Russ was just kind of corny but a really good dude. I thought it was terrible that fans booed him at the Broncos-Seahawks game. Dude won more games in his first 9 or so seasons than any other QB in history and for our team. How easy people forget stuff like that.

He’s a good father and family man, he’s altruistic and he genuinely cares about his friends. He’s not the quarterback he thought he was-at least not this year. A little perspective on one thing from a Hawks fan:
You (like most people) saw him rush back from injury to not quit on his team.
I saw him insist that he was healthy when he wasn't, come back just as Geno was hitting his stride, play like crap for three games, and then FINALLY admit that he came back before he was healthy.
We went from Geno putting up 31 pts (against the Jags, but still) to being shut out for the first time in a decade, with Wilson insisting all the while that he was healthy, which nobody believed for a second.
Here's the thing about Wilson- I'm sure he really believed that the team was better off with him playing injured than with Geno. Endless positivity is Wilson's brand and it has worked for him, but it's gotta come with some Ws or it just comes off as ego and wishful thinking to the fans.

Just because some drama queens say something it’s not fact. All this hate toward a damn player who is doing his job to throw the damn ball and win games over a damn rep is crazy. Defenses will always have conflicting views with the offenses and Vice versa. For example 2015 Broncos defense. They even said it themselves that they have to do all the work themselves(the defense) to win most games and they knew that from the start. And Sherman and kj wright acting like drama queens saying Russ gets preferences. Every great player gets preferences. And great players say it themselves as well. In an athletic game as long as my teammate is doing his homework and continues to show drive to win he can act corny all he wants. I don’t need him to fit in, just be himself even if it’s corny. And that’s the main problem with people quick to jump to assumptions based of what someone says rather than fact. The world revolves mostly on fact not opinion or he said or she said. Facts.

He obviously scrambled out of a lot of them, but I genuinely wonder how many he might have scrambled himself _into._ That analysis probably wouldn't hold a lot of surprises, our line was pretty bad at times... but I'd still be interested to see it.
In any case, it's wild to see how bad he has tanked in Denver. Even though his Carlton-esque personality always bugged me, I really came to believe that it was a key part of his success. I'll tell you why people have turned on Wilson: because he told the world that he would be better if it wasn't for lesser talents holding him back. He portrayed himself as the selfless player following the game plan of his conservative coaches to the detriment of his own personal glory. Then when he got the chance to prove it, it appears that it was exactly the other way around, i.e., the coaches, teammates, and game plans made Wilson look better than he actually was. This might be complete bullshit: maybe he's just older now and he would have lived up to his own hype five years ago, or maybe the Broncos coaches aren't putting him in a position to succeed. But regardless of the reality, nobody likes a big-talker who takes the credit doesn't actually have the skills to back it up--maybe because every person has had to deal with that type of person at some point--and that's how Russell Wilson is coming across the people right now. I suppose you could say he's embodying the sort of person everyone has had to deal with, and whom everyone hates. I think it's overblown, but no one said public opinion was logical or fair, and Wilson at least has the luxury of crying himself to sleep on a pile of money. And I'm sure that mental image doesn't make him any more likeable to his detractors. I'm not a Broncos fan but I hope Wilson figures his shit out. It's always depressing to see a HoF career end in boos and ineptitude.

I am a Seattle fan and I know I'm really late to the party here, but when I booed Russ in that Week 1 game, I did it literally because of the fact that it was him on another team playing against us. It wasn't because I hate the guy; he, the Legion of Boom, Pete Carroll and everybody else on that team in 2013 and 2014 are literally the reason I became a football fan. I actually wanted him to dominate this year (just as long as it wasn't against Seattle, of course) because I know he's a fantastic QB. I assumed this line of thought was how Seahawks felt in general.
I didn't think it was such a crime then, that us 12s booed Russ. To me it was just a "Hey I hope our team destroys your team no matter how good you are because you know, that's what us sports fans like to say, but I still wish all the best for you after this because you won us that Superbowl" kind of boo. Nothing personal. Sucks that nobody recognized it this way.

Thats Good Sports- As a Seattle resident and a Hawks fan, I was 100% behind Wilson for the 8 of his 10 years here. His last 2 years here weren’t great and his last year was bad.
The Wilson “thing” has many layers to it. Lets go start at SB50. There might be some truth to the play call. I don’t know if it was an audible or he convinced Pete to do a pass play but I believe he coveted that SB MVP and the glory. Pete is a veteran coach that knows what to do in situations like that. Who’s going to be remembered more? The QB that hands off for the win? Or the QB that passes for the win? Wilson is obsessed with legacy, and it wasn’t obvious back then as it was in his last 2 years here.
Now to his last 2 years where he wanted to cook. Pete let him cook until he burned the food against the Bills and Pete said nope, no more. I also think that leading up to his last 2 years here he broke plays intentionally so he could throw it. We’re teammates covering for him? I think so; especially the offense. As a player that counts on getting the ball; they aren’t going to throw him under the bus; they do that they don’t get the ball.
Wilson got booed because of HOW he left, not because he left.
Wilson’s deep ball hasn’t been good for some time, lat injury or not. Wilson also isn’t Manning. He’s not Brady. He can’t do for the Broncos what Manning did or what Brady did for the Bucs. He wants what those guys had/have and he’s not earned it.
For a bunch of guys with business acumen- the guys that bought the Broncos- they sure did a bad business deal signing Wilson to such a massive extension before he even took a snap! Broncos should have waited until he was into year 2 of what he had left.
The Broncos have set themselves back a decade at least because of their choices with Wilson. 3 things in his colts post game were true; 1- he let the team down. 2- he needs to play better. 3- 2 interceptions can’t happen. Everything else was word salad. It was BS that no one wants to hear. The locker room doesn’t want to hear how he believes he’s a winner. That locker room also isn’t going to lie for him either. He hasn’t earned their respect.
Lets get to HC Hackett. What did he mean when he said he got the go ahead to run that play? From who?!!! He’s the GD coach! He makes the calls!!! Hackett needs to put his foot down and be the coach and have a coach player relationship with Wilson and not a partnership.
Hackett is in the hot seat and if he doesn’t get fired in the middle of the season he will at the end and Wilson will be watching the SB from his suite.

Some good stuff, as always, but I've got to push back on the "Russ rushed back from his injury to support the team." My interpretation-and I'm sure it's shared-is that Geno was doing pretty well in relief after his torn finger. So you're trying to convey to the football world how great you would be on their team, and your backup is starting to show that he can lead the team as well as you can. Turn that over in your mind. So Russ comes back early and puts Geno back on the bench. But he's back too soon, and the 'Hawks lose several games because he can't throw well. If Russ wanted to support the team, he would have stayed on the sidelines and let his finger heal completely.

His first games back he was hitting some stuff, but also missing pretty badly on other stuff, which you can imagine with such a nasty injury. True or not, people cant know his beliefs. I Love Russ corny or not and he spent tons of time in the hospitals with the kids... so Besides this season that gives us great draft picks if he fails this year, I hope he makes a comeback next year.. The previous team members hold grudges based on the attention and teams success being so much attributed to him.. He like many of people that grew up strong in the church have a corny vibe.. but I respect it because they try not to let the tragic trifling thoughts that consume us consume them.. And it shows in their personalities in all they do. One thing missed is here in Seattle there has been a lot more talk of Russ not sticking to the play... not wanting to wear the plays on the wrist and waisting years of play calls he never seemed to stick to... But if thats the case it would be on the coaches for allowing that to slide so long. Anyway Russ just took up more of my life in this story I wrote than I ever imagined he would....
