I purchased a u510 1 iron and the club is simply amazing. It was hard to not hit it straight at the range. Love that club. It’s the best one in my bag 💪
Great content. I’ve been considering the utility irons for awhile now but didn’t really understand the differences. Now I do because of this video. Will definitely be comparing the two soon. Thanks 👍
I ended up with a TS2 19* which I play at 18* with a steel shaft. It gives me lower spin with decent launch so it can really cut through the wind. I tried a range of shafts but in the end the steel shaft found the sweet spot between the forgiving long iron and the hybrid with graphite shaft. A frankenclub for sure but it works for me and saw no loss in distance and a much tighter dispersion. The other thing I love is that I can hit a stinger off the tee around the same height as a long iron with WAY more forgiveness. I loved the P790 Udi I used to have (2i) but it was a tee only club. The TS2 I can hit from anywhere at 18* which is perfect for what I need.
Another great video mate, I have both in my bag, 2 hybrid and 3 utility iron (no 3wood) and I’d agree that the utility irons are more accurate but I do prefer to hit the hybrid out of bad lies and my hybrid also goes about 20 meters further
I’m going to try a utility iron based on your review as always used a hybrid. The Titleist U500 is high on the list to possibly buy. Thanks for another quality vlog!!
Mike, great video. Given that I (too) often find myself in the rough, I’d love to see you take these 2 out on the course and test hem from tough lies and see which performs best. Any chance? Cheers mate
For me an iron look for longer clubs but not the U510....what a noise when I tried it on the driving range.😱 U500 much better sound and looks👍🏽so ordered a U500 2 iron. And apparently I am not the only one because delivery expected late October.Great combo with the hazardus smoke shaft 👍🏽
Michael, good video, watch your other club comparisons in the past. I have a titleist U510 1 iron (16 degree) and can hit it well. I learned on a 1 iron decades ago when I was younger and still practice with it as a confidence builder (my standard practice one iron is a Cleveland TA7 1 iron with graphite shaft). Have not been out golfing in last year due to pandemic. While I can hit the Titleist 1 iron very well, I cannot consistently hit my Mizuno CLK 2 hybrid (16 degree lofted down to an 18 degree) for some shots but could when I bought it, I cannot figure out why? The hybrids now seem to go left (draw) more than I care for with higher ball flight but I close my stance to compensate, which helps. The titleist utility iron seems to go pretty far (about 240 yards), sometimes with a slight draw and a nice low ball flight. I seem to go back and forth with my long irons and hybrids, sometimes I can hit one or the other really well one day and then the next day can't. I hit my Wilson C200 3, 4 & 5 irons with steel shafts, well most of the time but not consistently, which is why I put hybrids back in my bag for the long irons 2-5. I recently bought a Tour Edge C722 TI utility iron (that you did a nice review on) in a 5 iron and it just goes beautifully, better than the Mizuno CLK 5 Hybrid or even my Adams A30S five hybrid I practice with-love the sound!)! I am now picking up a 2, 3 & 4 utility iron EXS 220 TI, as they were on closeout for about $100 USD directly from Tour Edge and specs are the same as the C722 version. Note, I did buy/try the Cleveland Launcher UHX utility irons, which I cannot find a review on. They don't hit as well as they are all steel (heavier). Compared to the titanium forged face of the Titleist and Tour Edge utility hybrids, which are softer and better contact feel with the ball. Could not find Wilson Staff Utility Irons with a regular shaft anywhere to blend with my Wilson C200 set. Liked your review on the club though. While I am a long iron guy, I don't know if I am a purist as you are or if I should be more a hybrid guy with an 80-90 mph swing speed? I am concerned about how I hit from the rough, where I do spend some time, thinking a hybrid would be better to cut through the tall grass for me in comparison to a utility iron, what do you think? I was interested in the Tour Edge C522 hybrid you tested but I don't think that's any better the utility iron or my Mizuno CLK hybrids and the cost is $250 USD per club, which adds up. So should a recreational golfer like me mix utility irons and hybrids for fairway wood and long iron replacements (2-5)?
I'm no good with hybrid clubs so use an old 21 degree wilson deep red 7 wood head with an xvr7 voodoo 5 wood length shaft in it ,cost me virtually nothing to make up but does a good job as my hybrid type club ,I like my 4 iron as well .Maybe for options I should look in to one of these driving utility irons ,I've never tried one .
For me, the magic of these irons / hybrids is how well or not they perform in less than ideal turf or lie conditions. Any chance you can do a more real world review and let us know which club would perform better in rough and the other tall stuff?
A general issue I have with you reviews is that you only hit like a few shots with each club and you even count in the bad shots. Sry mate, but to me it‘s just not a good review that way if you want to compare the clubs with a shottracker.
Mike is a decent player ,so hitting loads more shots with each club is not really going to tell us much more really ,its just a comparison test .Everyone needs to try them themselves .
mike best Dude. There is a reason why clubmanufactures use robots to test their clubs. Even the purest ballstrikers have some deviation from shot to shot. And if you are peaking your hybrid higher than the Utility, the review is just bad.
Actually dude we want to see the variation between strikes as i doubt u can put the club on the ball like a robot. Mike lets us know how he misses and looks a very comfortable + handicapper
Great video 👍 this is what I'm looking at but to fill gap between 3 wood and 4i
Thanks for the review. I’ve ordered the U510 2 iron and am looking forward to using it off the tee on the shorter par 4s! It feels fantastic
Hey man know I’m a year late lol but how are you liking it, I’m thinking of getting on myself

Have tried the 510 a couple of times in a studio and liked it so much I might get it in two different lofts, one as a 3i and one to replace my 5w.

bonjour je souhaite savoir si c'est normal que le shaft d'un hybride 2 soit bien plus long qu'un utility fer2 u510
This coming from a Team Titleist member...That Titleist looks a lot like a TaylorMade P790.

I have enough speed for a 4 iron but not a 3, and the hybrids are far more forgiving. Will keep a 3 and 4 hybrid in the bag.
Mike did you set your green out at 500 yards??
the hybrids loft down by 1°

Pretty sure if he was mapping his yardages for the course he would exclude the variations. Hes not hes testing a club including mis strike variations
