- Do you know what faults you can commit in badminton? I’m going to tell you all about them so that you can settle any doubts you may have on the court.
Some players even end up arguing because they can’t decide on whether something is a fault or not. In this video, I’m going to discuss these faults, so as to avoid disputes when you are playing.

00:59 on the service, any part of the racket head is higher than the servers wrist and contact is made above the waist
01:26 the feet of the server and receiver are not in the proper courts at time of service
02:19 double touching

Based on what Kennie is saying 90 percent of my serves are foul, learn't a new thing. This video is very very useful

Hi Kennie, Your videos are more useful & thank you for that. Could you please show us how to overcome the pressure during the competetive matches like both teams were scoring equal points or if the team is almost about to reach game point but the another team is pacing up, in other scenarios like how to perform a good comback. Please share your ideas and statergies about the mindset during those situation.
This is a very good topic so i definitely will get to it! Thanks for your request😁🏸

Please guide about gym training, what type of training I should do in gym so that I improve stamina and not tired during any match or tournament match
NIce video. Would be great if you mention the bwf rule number also. Especially not many undertand the racket 'net cross' fault !
I think it will be more confusing to keep refering to a bwf rule number since not all my viewers are familiar with bwf. Some are just beginners and playing for fun😁🏸
Hello kennie love your videos and it helped me a lot to improve my game , can you please make a video on badminton trick shots .

Mam u explained beautifully 😍 but i have two doubts.
1. What if in doubles, at the time of hitting the shuttle, both the racquets of a side hit each other at the same time of hitting the shuttle BUT shuttle hits only one racquet. Will it be considered fault?
2. What if at the time of hitting the shuttle, it drags a bit on the strings of racquet such that it is not clear bounce from the racquet although it is unintentional. Will it be considered fault?
Thank u mam in advance😊
Hi! If 2 rackets hit each other while the rally is ongoing but only one racket only hits the shuttle then that is fine and considered a good shot but if the shuttles touches both rackets before being hit back then that is fault.
Upon hitting the shuttle, u cannot drag the shuttle or “carrying” it as u hit it back bec that would be called fault.
At the end of the day, the umpire will call these faults as he/she sees them. Sometimes game is too fast and the umpire doesn’t see these fault so if the umpire doesnt call it a fault do not stop and continue on to get the rally.😁🏸
What about if you hit feather first while rally is on.. or shuttle sort of mishits and drags of the racket while in rally??
It’s rare that you will hit the feather first bec as the shuttle flies to you its definitely the cork first... and there is such a thing as dragging the shuttle and that is fault... that’s if the umpire sees and calls it. 😁🏸
@Badminton Coach Kennie Great Video Coach! Assuming if I toss the shuttle a little upwards ( below chest level ) & it contacts with the racket below the lowest rib ( or 1.15m these days ), is it legal?
The service judge uses their measuring tool to make sure that the shuttle is below the 1.15 metre upon contact of shuttle and racket😁🏸
Thanks for these important information
And but i have a doubt that during the service the reciver can take the shuttle by jumping towards the net above the service line area
In between the serve
The receiver can only move once the server has hit the shuttle, moving before the serve is a fault😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion ok thanks all this
@@CoachKennieAsuncion and during the rally can our badminton can Cross net without disturbing our opponent
Coach, from what height serve is allowed? Above waist is okay? And for how long server can hold the shuttle in hands before actually service is done?
1.15 metres upon contact of shuttle and racket, if serve is higher than that it gets called fault. 😁🏸
Coach please give us the idea about the rackets.. Which to buy?? Best in market for best price...
I always say rackets are personal. It depends what you prefer- could be head heavy or light racket... you have to hold it, swing if possible to see what you prefer! 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Thank you for the reply coach...
Thank you po, this is a nice refresher po😊
You’re very welcome😁
Coach my question is, during an opponent serve, can I already return the ball even when it didn't reach my side of the court yet, meaning my own box?
@K. R. ohhh got it
You can but that is tricky... if you move before the serve is executed that is fault😁🏸
Hi, Kennie. thank you for such informative video. I have a question tho : My partner takes “forever to serve", opponent often moves waiting for her to serve. Is this considered a fault? the server or the receiver? I would say a good 5-6 seconds wait from about to serve till the shuttles becomes air-borne
I would like to ask: is it a service fault if before serving, you are diagonally moving the shuttle to position the shuttle to your preferred part of the court? I am asking since I have been doing it for so long and no one actually commented on anything until I lost a match basically because my opponents think I am moving my arms and shuttle diagonally before serving.
I was once a varsity player and currently a club player.
Thank you. This will help me in my grade school championship
Thank you too😁🏸
Thanks for the information.
Hello mam,, do we have also what we call "let serve" in badminton,,,i watch videos regards to this but it seems not clear it will be good if there is video from you discussing this but it seems none,,thank you😊
If the shuttle got hit by the racket frame but not with the string!
Is it considered a fault?
That is ok as long as the shuttle still goes over the net😁🏸
some players are going to every shuttle they are attending every shuttle fast that time what we have to do for deafeting them
Be more consistent than they are so do practice often! 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion ok coach thank you coach
Very useful thank you so much god bless you
Thank you too!!😁🏸
Coach pls. tell me whether it is allowed to change the racket the other hand while the rally is in progress.
In a normal competition you can only use one hand😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Thank you for your reply.
Thank you for highlighting my comment.
Hello I have 2 questions:
1) In a doubles games, if I am serving, where is my partner allowed to stand? can his both feet be in the box I am serving from?
2) is touching the pole fault? specially I did not distract the player. for eg. in a doubles game, when after hitting shot, I follow the outside of the court *the game is still in play), and while returning I touch the pole. Is that a fault?
1. It doesnt make sense for your partners 2 feet to be in the same box as u are when you’re serving that only mean your both in one side. He can position at the back with one leg in your court and one leg in the side of his court so that puts him in a middle position.
2. When u hit the pole even accidentally while the rally is ongoing, it is fault😁🏸
Coach I like this video, thank you coach from India
I’m glad you like it! Thank you! 😁🏸
Is it legal for my opponent to move the racket side to side when short serving?
If it is one movement all the way to the serve it might pass as ok that will depend on the umpires call😁🏸
What if the raquet touch the ground while hitting the shuttle? Is it considered as fault?
Racket touching the floor is fine, no issue😁🏸
U improve my skills thanks coach
Thank u for your kind words. Appreciate it! 😁🏸
Can the receiver of serve keep shaking his racquet/ hand/leg or for tht matter, can the receiver keep himself/herself unsteady ???
Please tell me mam which racket is best for doubles. Head heavy or even balance or head light.
What should be the ideal weight of a racket.
I always say rackets are personal. I’d like to hold it before purchasing it, if possible swing it a bit. Smashers like head heavy as it helps in their smashes as for me i prefer an even light weight racket😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion thank you mam.i am a big fan of yours.
Coach , I’ve seen many videos of Lin Dan , and when he lifts from the front , I see the net moving , is his racket touching the net , or is it ok to touch the net while lifting the shuttle from the front court
Awesome tips
Thank you very much😁🏸
i have a question, if you hit the shbuttle on your side but finish ur rakets head finishes on the other side of the net does that mean its fault
rules would state that it is ok as long as you hit the shuttle on your side & did a follow through to the other side but because games are so fast and umpires could have a diffiulty determining if you’ve hit the shuttle on your side or slightly on your opponents side you might be called fault for over reaching... that’s where most arguements would come from so at the end of the day it will be what the umpire sees! 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion thx buddy
i play under 13s and i lost my tournamnet because of that in the finals but i watcha lot of ur vids :)
Helpful videos coach kennie. Thanks po
I have one doubt mam when you serve your foot cannot be touch any center line or base line of the court. But can you touch your foot in single sideline or long service line during service
hi coach, wondering where is this venue and is it open to the public? place with badminton and basketball is perfect 😊
Coach can you do a vid how to master the backhand
Will do Paul! Thanks for your request! 😁🏸
While Rallying with my opponent: then the shuttle popped up to high in the air(from your opponent), and when you are about to return it, it soars high, then hits the roof and land on your partners side.
would be this play be legal?(in real badminton)?
In an international setting whoever hit the shuttle that made it touch the ceiling loses the point. The returns must not touch the ceiling😁🏸
Thanks for the info, coach. However a question. If the opponent is serving and i am receiving. I dont know whether he is going to serve in front or a toss. Can i make slight movements to distract him or confuse him ?
You cannot be moving when waiting for a serve, you can however pretend to lean towards a direction even if you are anticipating another direction😁🏸
What if the rackets of two players of a team in doubles hit each other??? Will it be considered a foul???
If only one racket hits it back that would be ok but if shuttle bounces on one but gets hit by the other racket then that is fault😁🏸
Coach I have a question. What if in a match the officials did not see there was a service fault how will they continue the game?
That is why players should never stop until a fault is called otherwise you miss the next shuttle and point becomes against you😁🏸
Hi nicely explained ....
Wats with the undue delay , is there anything specific about the seconds which then wud be considered as delay while moving ur racket back to serve ?
Or is it ambiguous for the call in respect to the umpire
It is ambiguous and will really depend on the umpires call😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion 😅ok
Thank u coach for responding
as it is rare its not a serious matter of discussion in badminton fraternity ,but how about a match s decision being dependent on a ambiguous decision of a umpire ,y isnt it objective?
Thank u coach..🥰

Yes it’s for both singles and doubles😁🏸

Couch Lennie now I know the fault between the rules of badminton
Very informative video.

Well if I win a game ball (the last point)..and I lay down on the court after getting the point ....is it considered a foul play????????????
Hey I have a question while playing the double match what if the it's my partners serve but bymistake I take the serve but from the correct side will my opponent get a point or will I get to retake the serve
And is the empire allowed to correct you if you serving from the wrong side
Thank you pls reply
I believe the umpire double checks before any player serves. However, if the serve has been served and the rally is going then the umpire can give the point to one who got the rally. They normally dont stop the rally mid way. 😁🏸
Very well explained....
Thank you!😁🏸
Would it be wrong or right if the service sattol is in the third code in singles?
I do not understand your question… 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion When I serve my shuttle, it will be down in the last code, then it wrong or right?
Hi,
If I hit a shot and it goes over the net and lands inbounds on my opponent's side, (or hits my opponent) but after this, my racket follows through and touches the net...
Is this a fault? 🤔
A coach taught me this exact scenario in a group session.
But then when it happened in a social session, everyone on the court said it was a fault 😐.
The coach had said that once the shuttlecock touches the court, or someone's body, it is out of play. Therefore it doesn't matter what happens after this.
Who is correct please? 🤔
The problem with that is who’s calling the shot because u may see it as the opponent touching the shot before u hit the net but others or maybe even an umpire might see it as u touched the net first so thats where the arguent happens even in international competitions that is why the umpires decision will be the final call.😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Ok thanks 🙏🤔😌

When i hit the shuttle from my court and then my racquet crosses over the net (without touching the net), is it considered as legal or a fault ??
As long as you hit the shuttle from your side it should be ok if its a follow through movement but sometimes umpires will call it fault because its very fast and it could look like you went over the net to hit the shot. Its a bit tricky😁🏸
Coach , while playing, the shuttle hits the frame of rocket so that the shuttle power is getting reduced so what can i do coach ?
Work on good timing! But it does happen even to the best of players that once in awhile u hit the frame. As long as it only happens occassionally then thats ok but ofcourse do your best to hit with right timing! 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Thanks for suggestion coach !
Will do that !
Hi Coach Kennie! If you are the receiver of a serve, will it be considered a fault if you move your feet already before the server makes a serve or is just about to make a serve? Thanks.
Yes that would be fault, that is called moving before the serve😁🏸
Coach kennie if the service is not correct(FAULT) is it considered wrong court in badminton during the play(singles🏸vs🏸&doubles🏸🏸vs🏸🏸🤔🤔🏸👬)🤔🤔
Thanks for the video ma'am ❤️❤️
Your welcome!! 😁🏸
After I hit the shuttle which has been legally hit from my court....but my racket crosses slightly over the net on the follow up....point was scored by me.
What will be the decision plz.
If its a slight follow through movement that is allowed however in a very fast game it could be hard for the umpire to tell if the over reaching is upon contact or after and thats where the arguement usually comes from😁🏸
In case the service is touched by the same court player of the opposite team, who will get the point?
Its an automatic point for the opponent if the shuttle was touched by 2 players from the same side😁🏸
Can you hit twice the shuttle but the first attempt did not touch the shuttlecock but the second attempt is successful?
You are great coach
Thank you! 😁🏸
Please clarify what is called shuttle carry in badminton?
Carrying is having the shuttle on your racket and not immediately being able to hit it back … that would be fault but that will also depend on the umpire calling it if they see it 😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Thank you
Maam good day po. ask ko lang po kung may new rule na po ba kapag nagserve ka at hindi mo tinamaan ung shuttle cock ay hindi na raw fault ngayon? salamat po

Hello Coach,
2.Many International Player shout when they Win rallay So it is ok.
Thanks for this video...
I didn’t quite get what number 1 meant. As for number 2, many international players shout to boost their own moral, or pumping themselves up but if umpire feels they are just provoking opponents they can be warned not to do that😁🏸
@@CoachKennieAsuncion Ok, Thanks Coach.
Is it considered a violation if the shuttle cock fails to cross the net because the shuttle hit the net?
I won’t call it a violation but if your shuttle does not go over the net then your opponent gets the score automatically😁🏸
What if someone touches the shuttle through his racquet 🎾 coming below the net.
I think that the rule regarding shuttle touching the net during a serve has changed. Badminton World Federation now says that shuttle touching the net during a serve is now a fault.
Just double checked with an accredited referee. So far there are no changes. Even if shuttle hits the net is ok as long as it goes inside the designated area for the serve. Thanks😁🏸
coach you r legend
You’re too nice. Thank u😁🏸
Medam is it ok? To serve the opponent from any corner of the court?
It’s ok as long as your in a designated box. However, most players would serve from the middle to front area😁🏸
Hlo, i have got a doubt if im close to the net nd the shuttle has crossed the net nd i smashed it nd my Raquet has crossed the net but didn't touch the net.. would it be a fault or not ?
In singles, can I serve anywhere from the box?

Why does umpire says "Fault" to the player who cannot return the shuttle properly. Most of the time, the racket touches the shuttle, or even sometimes I saw the racket didn't even touches the shuttle.
These are the case when they are in the middle (or the end) of the rally, I'm not refering to the service receiver players.
I always think that the umpire doesn't have to say that, considering the player cannot return the shuttle to the oPponent already.
I am watching all vedio and then i am improving ma'am
Happy to know that! Thank u too😁🏸
Is third court service legal?
I meant If we serve and the shuttle drops in opponent’s third court.
I dont understand what u mean by 3rd court. 😁🏸
If player after losing point hit the net strong with his racquet is that a reason for yellow card?
Umpire will verbally warn first and if done over and over then its upto the umpire to give the yellow card! 😁🏸
