I get what Izzy means by the gloves now. Pereira defends using his hands and Izzy evades a lot of the time. With the UFC gloves, it'll be more difficult for Pereira to block while Izzy can still evade punches like he does.

Not everyone can do this and Izzy is one of the guys gifted with this ability he has a natural radar and sense of anticipating his opponents strikes he will be even more defensively sound in the trilogy match with Alex and it will come down to who can hit and not be hit.. Im leaning towards Izzy

Just watched this fight and far out it looked like Izzy won. He evaded so many punches and just looked way more technical. Pereira was just throwing wild punches, but he has so much more power than Izzy.

But pereira blocked a majority of Izzy’s shots by shelling up and landed a lot more clean a meaningful blows
The fact that izzy felt confident for his hand to get raised as the winner and alex looked surprised he won because his body language was already in submissive thinking he hadn't done enough for the victory means definitely mean something between the fighters.

Hmm I find it hard to believe Izzy had any judge convinced he came close because Alex had more significant strikes but if you can count Izzy’s punch’s thrown that were blocked 98% of the time then there’s an argument to be made Izzy could’ve won that fight but I take it the judges don’t count blocked punches as direct hits so yes Alex clearly won, if you need to try slowing the video down to see why Izzy most definitely lost this first one, and he only hit Alex maybe 3 times with a tap jab to the face that wasn’t contested but Alex had this one in the bag from the second this match started and Izzy never had the lead. I promise you these other reply’s in this thread almost convinced me enough Alex lost in reality but judges scored it wrong so they had me thinking that I wasn’t gonna watch this first fight cuz seem convinced until I realized they might be Izzy fans or in some way biased, so I’m just actually glad I chose to not trust them cuz Alex did win this But now I should say I saw the second fight and Izzy was winning in points til Alex KO’d him so that’s unfortunate for Izzy but I believe he had gotten better than Alex overall and I expect Izzy to win easily by points and staying away from Alex’s left hook by dancing away and around him all fight, which is what he is very skilled at and smart

I just watched both fights 1 and 2, and I am wondering why people think Alex is far superior to Izzy. Without any bias, Izzy has better precision, balance and cardio, while Alex has better defense (in the sense that he brings his hands to the head while Izzy relies on his superior head movements) and power shot. This is a 50-50 MMA fight. If not for Alex's power, I have Izzy 55-45. So why are we getting the narrative that Alex wins the the next fight easy? C'mon it ain't gonna to be an easy fight, although both fighters have evolved.
I think Izzy will embarrass him. Alex’s hand speed and setup hasn’t gotten any better. I think Izzy will make it look easy.

Because this is not close to prime Alex. Alex had lost more than he won in the last few years while izzy was on a tear. This was izzys striking prime against the worst point in Alex's career and he still lost. And the rematch Alex was on a weeks notice and literally kod him stiff lol. Adesanyas striking has most likely declined as he is focusing on other things and having extremely close striking fights with way inferior strikers to what Alex was beating a year ago. Israel could never win a kickboxing belt while Alex was a defending double champ. And is used to fighting guys his size while Israel has a ludicrous height and reach advantage over people but still arguably lost to Robert. And when he fought someone similar in height and reach like Jan, he got outstruck. That is why people think Alex is a better striker. And also that he beat him twice lol

I just rewatched this and had it 2 rounds to 1 in favor of Alex. Izzy is incredible, but he couldn’t get significant shots past Alex’s defense in the first two rounds. Alex, meanwhile, landed some big shots in those rounds. Izzy took round 3 decisively, but it wasn’t enough.

The fact that majority of the comments agree that this was a very biased decision victory solidifies the truth.
In my most unbiased opinion Adesanya wins 1 and 3. Watching in slow motion will show that many of Alex’s strikes in the first round miss or don’t land cleanly/hit the shoulder, whilst many of Adesanya’s strikes actually get through Alex’s guard, but don’t have much power I suppose so in regular speed it can easily get dismissed as a blocked strike. Round 2 Adesanya had much success early but partway through the round Alex landed a hard combination and from there it was all Alex. Adesanya could no longer break through Alex’s block for a good majority of the round. Alex was landing heavy shots over the top of Adesanya’s guard constantly and took over the round IMO. Round 3 Adesanya consistently got through Alex’s guard with straight punches throughout the round, and was consistent in his ability to avoid majority of Alex’s effective strikes. Whilst Alex did land some successful heavy strikes and even a potential spinning backfist, I think this round was pretty much all Adesanya.
@Dana Red I feel like Whittaker had more volume but that many of his strikes were timid jabs that he lunged in with trying to close the distance. I also feel like the fact that he briefly had Israel’s back but wasn’t really able to capitalize, works against him in a sense. I gotta rewatch it tho.

At the time Yes, today it's a whole different story man, the guys that used to give problems to adesanya when he was completely focused on kickboxing got starched by Pereira. Wilnis and Bougarui are clear examples.

...Yes Izzy was winning many battles, but Alex got the KO, so Alex won that war. Winning rounds is irrelevant when you end up getting KOed. Only matters for the fight going the distance.
1st MMA fight
...Izzy performed decent again.
...round 1 was very close, but I give it to Adesanya for the stronger finish and rocking Pereira at the bell.
...round 2, Close round again, both fighters land some good shots that wobble the other a bit. But Pereira wobbled Adesanya twice and scored a takedown at the end of the round to win it.
...round 3 Adesanya takedown, grappling control and more strikes. Easy round win for Izzy.
...round 4 I would give that round to Adesanya. Poatan landed the harder shots, but Izzy landed more significant strikes.
...round 5 I've got Pereira easily winning that round all the way. But once again, Pereira gets the KO, so winning round becomes irrelevant. Adesanya did that backwards somersault after missing a low kick. Alex timed Izzy getting up from it and clocked him hard. From there, Alex did great walking Izzy down and delivering very hard shots. And forcing the ref to slightly stop the fight early.
Congrats to Izzy tonight. He got some nice revenge.

How did Adesanya win the first round? He throw fewer hits. Just notice that most of the blows landed on Pereira's glove. Not to mention that the strongest blows of the round were thrown by Pereira. It wasn't a clear victory in the first round, but it was still Pereira who won.

You could argue 30-27 Izzy, wouldn’t say it’s a massive robbery but Izzy was clearly the more complete striker, Alex was a bit wild at times. Add elbows, a cage and more clinching in the mix I really think Izzy has a big advantage in the ufc
Judging criteria is slightly different, damage & affective agression is insanely important, hat's why Pereira won rounds 1 & 2.
Judges also note the reaction of strikes landed too, Adesanya had quite big reactions most times Pereira landed, but when Izzy landed Pereira wouldn't give much of a reaction, therefore the judges don't score it as damaging for Adesanya.
Regardless of you personally score a fight, according to the kickboxing judging criteria, it was rather decisive for Pereira.

decided to watch the first two fights after the events at UFC 276: i have to say, Adesanya clearly won this fight. I mean it was really competitive, but adesanya was in control of most of the fight, seemed to have more volume, and put Alex in bad spots multiple times. Really weird decision. Very curious to see how the third will play out.

Also the way they defended, Izzy by dodging and Alex by guarding is hugely favorable for Izzy in the eyes of the casual kickboxing watchers like most of us are, when in reality the judges probably see them as almost the same thing. People say Izzy is the best kickboxer because he is more evasive and moves more, but he literally got knocked out because he was leaning back in the second fight, Alex came close to being knocked down but the way he moves helped him keep his balance and take shots better. They're both great, Izzy's flashy movement and Alex's power tend to define them but they're both very complete guys. Difference is that Alex went on to win and knock out almost everyone in Glory and Izzy kept losing weird decisions until he got koed and left the sport. If you say Izzy is the best kickboxer you're just an mma fan lmfao
How the fuck Izzy won the 1st? It's a clear round for Alex, his strikes barely hit Alex and when they hit, they go onto his guard. You guys think Kickboxing has the same ruleset as the UFC, and it's not that. 8 oz gloves give the fighters a lot of protection, which means that strikes that go on guard are practically ineffective, unlike in MMA where strikes that go on guard are still pretty much effective. In Kickboxing ot only you have to connect, but you also need to connect outside your opponent's guard to actively score.
Crap pay and dodgy decisions are enough to make any sane person leave the sport. He's better for it
well kickboxing judging is different then mma izzy was attacking with soft punches those doesn't impress Judges to give them good points and on the other side Alex was connecting much heavy shots and if you observe carefully half of the shots izzy was hitting was on the guard and that does not give you any points. Thats why its unanimous decision because Alex's heavy shots managed to Impress all the Judges

Pereira had some clean and solid puches through but Izzy dominated all three (3) rounds of the fight. Since there were no knockout or TKO, Izzy definitely won on points, definitely.

Y’all are strange. This is a DIFFERENT Izzy fighting. Both fighters have evolved but only one has evolved while fighting under the pressure of the best middle weights in the ufc. Izzy is so much more precise than this. His fight IQ is unmatched he understands this game on a level that makes casuals confused. Alex is easily stronger but so is virtually everyone else that fights Izzy and loses. This game is more than strength. Pereira has great punching technique, cardio, strong chin and good KO power. However, Adesanya's head movement is something else, he made Alex miss almost all his punches. Moreover, Adesanya knows how to mix up his hits better, has better feet movement, good carido and seemingly his striking power has grown a lot since he joined the UFC. Even someone like Jan Blachowicz admitted that he never knew Adesanya hit so hard and that it surprised him. I get why Alex gets the edge, because he KOed him (he totally lost here though, that decision was stupid), but I feel like if they fight with smaller gloves, a larger ring that allows more movement, Adesanya wins that fight.

Izzy is very good and I like him but Alex is as good if not more and a lot more explosive. Alex is very crafty for the power he carries. Israel best chance is probably a 5 rounder point fight, but if he engages in a brawl or on the pocket I don’t see it going like Adesanya vs Whittaker , rather more like Adesanya vs Gastaleum. Idk tho, guess we’ll find out and hope it’s a great fight.
