  • Today I visit the incredible Royalist castle of Raglan in Monmouthshire, Wales, as I tell the tale of how this fortress fell victim to the English Civil War.

I spent 7 years working in a bakery in the converted cow sheds of Raglan Castle Farm ( next door ) Talking to the farmer, he pointed out earthworks still visible today where the parliamentarians placed siege guns. They still find metalwork in the surrounding ground.

Indeed there are a lot of civil war earthworks remaining. A woman and her cat used to look after the castle back in the 80s when the castle was still covered in ivy.

You've made a fundamental error in conflating Sir William ap Thomas with his son (also Sir William) who was raised to the peerage and who took the name of Herbert in lieu of his Welsh patronymic. Father and son, NOT the same individual.

My x # great grandfather direct descendant is Sir Roland Blewett, of Raglan
His descendant in the 1300s Sir ralph De Blewett Would change his name to sir ralph rawson And betray his family and the welsh crown And marry the Is granddaughter of edward longshanks
Llowis Avice Hawise de Monthermer I have followed my direct descended lineage from my father's mother agnes agnes gertrude rawson All the way back To walter the viking blewett in mid 900s
I always wondered why I had some welsh blood and scottish blood... When I look danish AF And a boat load of english blood...

@@AlexTheHistoryGuy Thank you for taking an interest in what I had to say.... His name is not even supposed to be renneberg
My grandmother's first husband died and she collected social security office name.So all of her children got his name... Unfortunately, I have no blood to the last name which I found out via ancestry and a dna test.Because that name is very german And kind of norwegian and I am not german or norwegian.... However, I am very Danish Scottish Welsh. And english With a slight frackle of eastern european asian and native american.... But unless I didn't tell you that.Looking at me that'd be your last guess....
Growing up I always thought that It was my grandmother's last name come to find out.I was wrong.... My real grandfather was a drunken wonder who probably gave my grandmother a false name... So buy in all rights My father should have been named rawson. By in all rights I should be a blewett. But.
Quite honestly if my grandfather didn't knock up Amicia Picard when she was 17 and she was 19 out of wedlock my great grandfather sir Ralph De Blewett of Gloucester may never have existed or my bloodline 😐

Haha researching your ancestry can often bring up some weird and wacky secrets about your family history, people would be surprised how far their family name reaches
