    I'm lucky enough to live just down the road from Beaumaris. Lovely town and an amazing castle. Thanks for the video. Just subbed.

      You are very lucky indeed! Anglesey in general is just beautiful. I especially loved Bryn Celli Ddu burial chamber.

    Great video,I went on a tour of North Wales in May and visited 24 castles.These castles were important to Edward but there were many more that were just as valuable in controlling Wales.

      There are just so many to visit! Dolbadarn was a particular favourite Welsh castle in Northern Wales, but Valle Crucis abbey may be one of my all time favourites sites in Wales

      I try to spendy free time visiting as many historic sites as possible, mostly local places but I will book a few weeks holiday every year and send every day travelling to 20 or 30 historic sites in a few weeks

    Its so odd. I've had "memories" of structures just like this. Its all very vague in my mind but they do feel familiar. High stone walls. High hedges. Huge stone fireplaces. Very green plush grass. I really wonder if we reincarnate? Whenever I need comfort I look up castles and medieval European things in general. Tapestries etc. And like I said, it all feels familiar to me. Though I was born in America. Midwest America. So no buildings like that around here.

      Maybe your ancestors had "the blue blood". Their energies are still alive on your body. Thats why.

    I thought the Edwardian castles in his iron ring also included those at Aberystwyth, Criccieth, Rhuddlan and Flint, although Criccieth was an existing Welsh castle that he upgraded.

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  Рік тому +1

      They may have been later additions, this video is just about the original 4 that Edward I revamped and spent the most money on. This solidified the English rule and served as the foundation to expand his other fortifications nearby

    What’s the alternative theory about Harlech castle please mate?

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  2 роки тому +1

      I believe one theory is about the soldiers during War of the Roses, and the other theory is about Owain Glyndwrs soldiers during the Welsh rebellion 😊

    The iron ring was made up of many more castles around 9 to 14

    War against Gwynedd not Wales, more precisely the declaration of Llywelyn ap Grufydd as an outlaw for failure to pay due homage by treaty and subsequent resumption of hostilities by his brother Dafydd ap Grufydd

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  Рік тому +1

      Yes indeed, I should have probably been more specific in the video but I just wanted it to be an introduction, I have considered doing a deep dive on each castle for a future video 👀

    Nice video! Just Caernarvon is not Romanesque but Gothic. Romanesque is not Roman, it is the name of a medieval style of architecture.

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  8 місяців тому +1

      Perhaps I used "Romanesque" in the wrong way there - I meant "Roman inspired"!

    The castles' cost beggared the English treasury, with the social result that finally melded the Normans and Saxons into the modern Brits, with awful consequences for the future of the world, responsible for approx 400 million dead (worldwide) up until the civil war ceasefire in the 1990's.

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  2 роки тому

      I'm not really sure what your comment was about, but who was responsible for 400 million dead?

    • @cymro6537
      @cymro6537 Рік тому

      It didn't 'meld Saxons and Norman's into modern Brits' ,by the late 12th century the population of England were already English -not Norman and English.

    Can you please learn to pronounce names and castles correctly... You English never give up trying to defile the Welsh Language!!!

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  2 роки тому +1

      I try the best I can with the accent I'm given. I'm from Norfolk and the Norfolk accent doesn't cope well with Welsh. Of course it isn't a deliberate attempt to mispronounce the Welsh names and you know that so this comment is rather aggressive for no reason. I hope you enjoyed the video of English castles in Wales regardless :)
